I was around 7 years into jewellery making and the advice a tutor gave me was to try to get the best I could afford. He said if I bought a Durston it would last longer than my lifetime. So far, no regrets and I bought the Durston C100.
I bought a Durston C130 this year and after watching this video, I now want the Pepetools mixed wire mill too. I’ve gotta start saving. 😏 Thanks for the demo. It’s a fantastic machine.
I have several tools that came with a crank. I have since made a wheel of the same diameter. It helps making a more consistant preasure. I have a cheep roller now but plan on getting a Pepe Mill as soon I as I can. I think the combination mill like you showed first would be my best choice.
I use a Combo mill from Durston and I absolutely love it. I have a Agile 130. But I'm really interested in all the different wire options. Durston makes a wire only mill but it doesn't offer the different shapes. Great video showing all the options
Now thats awesome!!! I like how it does bezel wire too!!! Very cool!!!
Just bought the same and also have the 110mm PEPE now the same as your one wire 160mm PEPE and my antique ones 120years old !
Thanks for sharing. Have fun with your new toy. :)
Thanks for this vid. I just bought the 160 Pepe wire mill and experimented with it today. Was a bit different for me as my other mill is a Durston flat. Knowing the sequence you just showed really helps (square first). 🙏🙏 Am looking forward to getting back at it and experimenting more after seeing your vid. 👍😊👍

Hey, good for you for getting sponsored by Pepe. Your videos are great. I bought one of the Pepe mills (combo 110), and I love it. Your videos definitely helped me make my decision, and were informative. It was ~$550 on sale. Glad I didn't get a cheap one.

No problem.
If you have to start out with square wire, how do you move on to round wire? What size does it need to be brought to in comparison to what size of round wire you need?

I'm sure the rolling mill is worth a lot more than $10 haha. ($1000/100 = $10)
I use a simple propane torch without oxygen to melt silver and it works just fine.

Hi and thank you for sharing- now I need another rolling mill!!!! How do you remove the pickle from your silver before putting through the mill again? sand it off?
@GomeowCreations

I just put it into water and dry it off with a dry rag. You can also use baking soda to make sure the acid is gone.
I am thinking of buying the little combination rolling mill you have but can’t find any info on the dimensions of it and need to know if it will fit in the tiny space I have. I would be so grateful if you could tell me the width and froth of it and the length of the handle as it extends out either side.
Randy, check out the Paige Tools soldering tips, they work for the Smith Little (others too)! We're talking MULTI-ORIFICE for ALL your tips, superior performance!

Hello I’m using an economy rolling mill just like the little blue one you have I find it difficult from time to time to make sheets cause I use the ingot mold that make the wires and the sheets but whenever I make a sheet it always seem to be to thick to go through the mill but if I cast it it’s easier but takes me so much time would you mind to do a video on how to make a metal sheet whenever you have a chance

Thank you. Rolling mill machine .is it suitable for silver only. cause I want to start with aluminum wires as a start ?
@GomeowCreations
3 жыл бұрын
If you are planning on soldering and getting the skills need for working with silver in the future you shouldn't use aluminum. I would get some copper and start with that seeing that it is a lot cheaper. If you try and solder aluminum using a torch it will just melt before the solder does.
what's the dimension of the band shown at 2:40?
I have a question, once you use a crucible on copper metal, can I use the same crucible for silver and gold? Or do I have to use different crucibles for different precious metals? Thank you again👍
@GomeowCreations
3 жыл бұрын
It is best to have a different one for each metal. This is because little bits of metal will stay behind in the crucible and they with mix with other metals that you add to it

You can use a plumbers propane torch to melt silver. If you have a oxygen and propane setup that will work or some of those bigger propane torches. I have a mapp gas torch that can also do it to a point.

Those rolling mills are expensive as ... , pepetools and durston rolling mills are like easy over 1000$ for someone who doing this for living its cheap probably, but for a hobby jeweler its unreachable.
@GomeowCreations
3 жыл бұрын
You are not wrong but there are cheaper mills on the market coming in about $250 and I have one as well. I have had problems with the cheaper mills not being able to open up enough to work with standard ingots for sheet. So if anyone gets one of the cheap mills make sure you can make ingots that fit it or your going to be hammering down your metals for some time 😅👍

@@BrlU I have a cheap Chinese model that I got off ebay. It cost me 229$ Cnd. It has the half round, flat and square stock portion on the wheels. Why pickle after annealing, if you'll be annealing again before soldering? I am unsure about when to pickle. Which is a fairly funny sentence taken out of context, but true non the less. Not trying to criticize what you're doing, just wanting to understand why you're doing it.
@GomeowCreations

I do it any time I heat the metal or use flux to clean it off. If you have any spots that have oxidation than the solder will not flow or stick. Seeing that I was twisting the metal I didn't want to risk that.
