I was around 7 years into jewellery making and the advice a tutor gave me was to try to get the best I could afford. He said if I bought a Durston it would last longer than my lifetime. So far, no regrets and I bought the Durston C100.

I have several tools that came with a crank. I have since made a wheel of the same diameter. It helps making a more consistant preasure. I have a cheep roller now but plan on getting a Pepe Mill as soon I as I can. I think the combination mill like you showed first would be my best choice.

I use a Combo mill from Durston and I absolutely love it. I have a Agile 130. But I'm really interested in all the different wire options. Durston makes a wire only mill but it doesn't offer the different shapes. Great video showing all the options

If you are planning on soldering and getting the skills need for working with silver in the future you shouldn't use aluminum. I would get some copper and start with that seeing that it is a lot cheaper. If you try and solder aluminum using a torch it will just melt before the solder does.

Why pickle after annealing, if you'll be annealing again before soldering? I am unsure about when to pickle. Which is a fairly funny sentence taken out of context, but true non the less. Not trying to criticize what you're doing, just wanting to understand why you're doing it.

I do it any time I heat the metal or use flux to clean it off. If you have any spots that have oxidation than the solder will not flow or stick. Seeing that I was twisting the metal I didn't want to risk that.
