'I want it that way' - the TRUE story
In 1999 the Backstreet Boys released ‘I want it the way’ which would go on to become the band signature tune and one of the most iconic songs of the nineties.
So who were the writers and which part of the song was the most challenging to write? What heavy metal track inspired the song’s classic guitar riff? Why were the band’s record label Jive unhappy with it at first and what changes did they request be made? Which musician beat the band to win Best song and Best record at the 2000 Grammys? And what is the actual meaning of the song? This mini documentary explores these questions and more.

Agreed. Max Martin is a genius.
the most impactful boyband song in my eyes, it’s crazy how it’s still relevant to this day and resonated with so many!

It really has stood the test of time, hasn't it?
Great post! This is my karaoke song. Over 2 decades later , it's still one of my favorite songs ever. It's great knowing the history behind the making of these songs

Yes it probably is. A classic 😀
Smooth/Santana (unfairly) won the Grammy for Song and Record of the Year over this classic song because NARAS/The Recording Academy loves a “comeback” (see Bonnie Raitt, Natalie Cole, etc)…in any case, another great job…thanks Jonny!

Cheers - thanks! Yes I think you are right. The BSB's song won the test of time, it seems. The Grammys wouldn't give such an accolade to a boyband anyway.
Madonna is working with Max Martin on something...but I don't think she accepts the fact that the melody is more important than good lyrics 🙂 both are!

Yeah I would like to but quite a few people have done videos on it already. Listened to the album again a few days ago- still not a fan
Melody is the epitome of good music, sometimes lyrics is not necessary, that's why we enjoy music despise the language they speak

exactly
I thought the song “True” by Spandau Ballet inspired the chorus?

I didn't come across that in my research - I can't really hear it. Send me a link if you have a credible source for that info.
