Thorogood Moc Toe Boot Review - Thorogood boots are known as the best work boots by many but thorogoods boots have lots of sythetic materials. I reviewed thorogoods american heritage moc toe boots last year for moctober and was pleasantly surprised but you can only learn so much from a brand new work boots. so today we are cutting a worn out pair in half to see what's inside and if they are worth after 1000 miles boots worth of wear.

Please do a breakdown of the women’s moc toe from red wing since a lot of people say they aren’t as well built, while others say that it’s just as good. Would love to see them this year in Moctober.

I believe it’s actually wuite the contrary. The women’s stuff doesn’t get as big of a production run as the men’s stuff, so quality and attention to detail is usually better than the men’s counterparts. An example of higher quality is that on one of the women’s models, they use a full leather stacked inch and a half heel. Show me a men’s Red Wing boot that does the same!

Red Wing states on their page that the womens Moc Toe boots are mostly the same as the mens (cork midsole etc.) exept for available sizes, slightly different last (due to different foot shape) and softer leather and polyurethane outsole (rubber on the mens versions). They run 290$ on their page while the mens versions are 280-290$, but I'm sure they sell a lot more mens boots making those slightly more cost effective to produce (economies of scale). It's true however that women tend to buy more fashion footwear wich is usually lower quality for the price.

Coming from aviation maintenance, thorogood is the way to go for one reason only: the outsole is skydrol resistant. Any other boot with a rubber outsole, skydrol will begin to soften and eventually melt them. Thorogoods have also served me well past 1,000 miles of walking and can clean up very easily.

Can confirm, they’re good boots. Mine are going on 4 years of daily wear. Mostly on concrete/asphalt, walking around different buildings with ladders thrown in between. But they’re great. I had to reglue the sole in a couple of places as it started splitting from the midsole but the glue has held up and so has the rest of the boot. I also have some Red Wing Mocs now, but these thorogoods will always have a place.

I'm 2 years in on my 4364's and am very happy, they're my everyday off work boots though so I'll probably get a couple more years out of a boot I already would have needed to replace if worn at work. The thing is as you know they are not intended for people looking for a heritage quality boot. Weinbrenner seems to have picked and chosen the best compromises to dial their thorogood boots into that $200 price point. Look at Georgia boot or Carolina from HH Brown, their boots are a decently less expensive and it shows . They're already giving you a lot of value for the money, and to offer a leather welt and more durable vamp lining they would have to up the price or drop the machined brass speed lace hooks and probably the max wear wedge. It's just not what the blue collar workers giving their boots hell want. A nicer heritage version would be nice though and definitely give redwing a run for their money, they already do their 1892 series which has a leather welt and is priced under $300. I definitely love my Tomahawks in Chromexel, and they were a steal.at $250 ( they're usually priced a little higher though) They could definitely do similar in the 4364 and I would not hesitate. Of course in the moc toe too for those who want a moc toe.

When Thorogood was was marketed as Weinbrenner decades ago they used to make most styles in a narrow width - I know because I had to buy the narrow width. Up until I retired after 32 years working in forestry & wildland fire I wore off-the-shelf Whites & Nicks boots in A & B widths. I did have a custom made pair of Wesco (West Coast Boots) in the early 80s. Certain Danner lasts also run narrow such as the one they use for their Portland made Rain Forest.

My coworkers swear by Thorogood boots for their comfort. I have been on the fence about it but now I think that when my current workboots die, I will pick up a set of Thorogoods (I am a local 157 union carpenter in NYC). I already have a set of Red Wing 875 moc toe, which I love but they are strictly for casual wear, they are too pretty to use for work. By the way, you are partly responsible for getting me into quality boots, your channel more than any other KZreadr educated me as to what to look for in boots. Now I am hooked, I may have to join Boots Anonymous to break this boot acquisition habit I developed...not the worse addiction. Presently I am waiting for my Truman boots (Java waxed flesh) to arrive to add to my growing collection (grant stones, red wing, jim green, Helm, Wilcox, Danner). By the way, will you do a review of Truman boots in 2023? They have some awesome leather selections, and the construction seems to be top notch for a slightly lighter pacific northwest boot. I plan on getting a Nicks Americana boot in 2023, their other workboots styles are just too heavy for me.

Thorogood has worked for me for many years. I can get 2 to 3 resoles before they get tossed.

Have you done a review for tbe Thorogood 1957 series? Are they the same as heritage line or are they a step up in materials?

Can you do a comparison between the Thorogood American heritage and the 1957 waterproof boots? Curious to know if the quality of the 1957s is equal to the American heritage series.

Just got my 3rd pair of thorogoods. I work in heavy industrial fabrication as a welder and if you take care of them, they will take care of your feet. I only have one complaint: The strings are like saws to the eyelets- they are thin and will eventually cut right through them.

Go through Midwest Boots and they send you a Kevlar gift lace…or at least they did five years ago. Still wearing the same pair with the same laces. Boots have been all over the world on oil rigs. I’ll be buried in mine.

Does the polyurethane sole on the thorogood grip better on slick floors than the red wing? Say you're going up a wet roof after just having stood in grease/oily water.....which boots would you rather have?

Ive hot a pair with prolly 2000 miles on them if you want to compare. Im a sheet metal worker and welder. Mine are a year old. I wear them 5 to 6 days a week from 8 to 12 hours per day. They are steel toe and Im 300lbs. So with tools and caring material could load the soles up to over 400lbs.

Cutting open worn boots is definitely more informative than unworn. I volunteer my Canada west linesman boots to be sacrificed to the Rose Anvil bandsaw! I destroy a pair every year. Waiting on my Nicks to see if they do any better.
