Your wheels are as big as they can be if you get them from Porsche, it's a 21/20" setup. The smaller wheels would be 20/19". It's a lovely car, but you removed pretty much everything that makes a GTS a GTS. Why not the Carrera S?
@andrewhurstcars
6 ай бұрын
Yes, and the smaller wheels will only fit on the Carrera - it’s the only size that will fit on the GTS. I think it still makes sense. For the GTS you still have to pay £3.2k extra for the GTS interior anyway, same price as this full leather option. You also get the extra power, larger brakes from the Turbo, GTS badging, and sport design front and rear bumpers (which some people option on the Carrera S. The GTS is still ultimately a parts bin special, so this build is as legitimate as a normal GTS.

@@andrewhurstcarsmeh, depends on how you look at it. You could also look at it from the perspective of the GTS being the only Carrera to get centerlocks, the larger Turbo brakes, and Turbo suspension.
It's good to hear you spec'd a lot of options that lean towards comfort and ride quality. I see too many videos on KZread where car reviewers only seem to care about how loud a car is and other impractical things that would make a care annoying to drive in real world condtions for long periods of time.

@sammooresphoto If you're buying a Porsche, particularly for the first time, there seems to be this implicit bias towards spec'ing towards performance. Which is absolutely fine. But if you find yourself waffling between performance (as if you're not getting performance regardless...) and something more road friendly, hearing from Porsche-people that "de-tuning" is perfectly fine or even preferable given your usage scenario, takes some of the pressure off of having to go full bore performance. 👍

@@sammooresphoto Actually you got it the other way around regarding the lightweight glass. It reduces the insulating noise lol. It's purpose (as confirmed by Porsche) is to "enhance engine noise characteristics and sound in the cabin". You waited 1.5 years to fail so hard lol.
Over here in the Netherlands we call a car that hasn’t been assembled properly “a Monday-morning car” where the person who assembled the car was probably still suffering from a weekend-hangover while working on your car. 😂 Still a beautiful car though. Enjoy it. And for what it’s worth, I fully agree on the manual gearbox and the sunroof. Adds so much more fun.
Nice of you to walk us through the options and the thoughts behind the decisions made. Nice to also see someone NOT getting a GT3RS.
Since the clear rear lights are an expensive option, I’m sure there is someone nearby who would want to trade their Red lights for your clears. As long as it’s not too difficult to replace.
Congratulations! A usable 911 with rear glass giving less motorway noise and space for the little one, brilliant!
For an everyday driver on UK roads the GTS can't be beaten. Nice car!

@@mariodiniz21The 911s are such amazing cars now, I doubt you’ll regret either. My own thoughts, after 4 years of 991.2 S ownership - I didn’t like the 992 dashboard (too much screen and shiny black plastic for my tastes) and it feels a much bigger car (even though it’s only slightly bigger). I also preferred the slightly less fussy design of the 991.2 vs 992. Every 911 since 996 has been too big and too fast for UK roads 😂 Might be different where you are.

@@WhiteRoseDrives Thank you for your input, I ended up buying the 991.2 GTS and picked it up yesterday, first impact is that it feels very agile (rear wheel steer) and light, and also faster than what I was expecting, the interior is old school now but everything works so well, even the PCM which has zero lag and can be controlled via touch and buttons/knobs. For sure the 992 S is better in many things, and I think it looks better in and and out, but it's also more expensive and slightly more GT oriented probably. It's impossible to go wrong with either.

I have had two 911 cars with the center lock rims; never again!!!!!!Every time I picked up a nail it required a tow-truck to take the car to a Porsche dealership. Four times this occurred. One time I was ordering tires for my pickup truck but drove the 911 to Mr. Tire Shop. Right in front of the shop I got a nail. Mr. Tire guys could not get the wheel off the car. Had to call a tow-truck and take a one hour drive away to the nearest Porsche dealership. So when I ordered my current Porsche 911 Turbo S I fought with almost every senior Porsche manufacturer leader, to pay extra money, to get 5 lug Turbo wheels. This discussion added 4 months to my delay of a total 16 month wait. I will never buy another Porsche with the center-lock rims whereby Porsche has you by the balls when our sticky Michelin tires picks up a damn nail. It is a Porsche scam. You pay max price to the dealership for a new tire and Porsche labor rates making every nail experience almost double the cost compared to doing the repair at a local tire shop. Center-lock rims look cool but really don’t make a difference compared to the 5-lug wheels!!!

Your dealer went out of the way for you, right on!. My dealer kinda sucks as it is a very small market in Hawaii.

Thanks for posting this video, Sam. I resonate a lot with your experience. Just got a 2022 992 C2S with 3k kilometers, and, to my surprise, was very disappointed with the overall built quality. For example, the exhaust pipe makes a weird vibrating noise when I accelerate from low revs; I can hear the front suspension working every time I'm on unperfect roads (which is 95% of the time); when I shut the doors, the internal roof cover makes a trembling noise right behind/under the sunroof; raddling noises are coming from the driver's door panel; etc. The reality is just that, unfortunately, Porsche's built quality isn't the same. Even options such as seat ventilation, which I had in a previous 2019 Macan (and worked amazingly), barely do anything in my 911 now. And the prices continue to soar. As a Porsche-obsessed person since childhood, it's incredibly frustrating to see the direction the company is taking. Used to be a reasonably priced, well-built, and reliable car. Now, it's anything but that.
great everyday 911 … congrats … and your 997.2 RS to give you raw pure engaged drive
They might have fixed it by now but I had a 2021 and 2022 car both with the glass sunroof and they had issues with getting stuck closed. They would tilt up but wouldn't fully open.

For some, the GTS badge on the speedo & rear, sport design bumpers, extra power, and centre-lock wheels will seal the deal. Also a normal GTS isn’t quite the all-inclusive package people make it out to be - you still need to pay £3.2k for the GTS interior, which is the same price as a full leather interior anyway.
You need a 4" or 6" phone cable. That was my solution.
I feel like most of these quirks & q/c issues are because it's a RHD car.

In fact those wheels are the only size 20/21” you can fit on the GTS and Carrera S. There are different styles though, centrelock etc. If you want the smaller 19/20” wheels, you can only fit them on the Carrera, as it has smaller brakes.
Too bad that they didn’t bother to adapt the ACC to the manual gearbox. But just checked Audis website and since all their models from the A4 onwards are only available as an automatic (at least at a quick glance on the configurator) Porsche would probably have had to go a long way to get VAGs “more premium” acc system to work with the manual. Sad though, because I love my Golf with the manual and acc: Gives me more connection to the car on everything but the highway, where I just leave it in sixth and let the acc do it’s magic

I have never had to use the front lift. If you drive the car correctly into and out of driveways you won’t grind the front. Drive in and out at a severe angle - takes practice to do this and drive over speed bumps really slowly and across at an angle. Those with a lift never learn how to drive correctly and end up scraping all the time. I have six newer 992 911’s - and a c8 corvette- no lift and I never scrap.
