I got the game and played for like 3 hours straight last night. I've had game fatigue and nothing has been fun for like 2 years. I couldn't stop playing. Without a doubt the best VR title I've ever played. And to be honest, that's not fair... It's probably the best game I've played in the last several years. It's 100% God of War in VR - but better. You can literally throw your axe and recall it back to you over and over again which is really next level in VR. This game exceeds my expectations and I suspect people will be playing and talking about it for a long time. If you haven't bought a Quest 3, go get one and get it for free. Best promo game ever haha!

So happy to hear that man! I’ve had a ton of people say I was paid to say the game is great, and I told all of them I didn’t get a cent and they’d see once the game is out. I am so glad to see VR gamers loving this game because it’s been the same for me as you’re describing. The first time in a loooong time where I genuinely have to force myself to take breaks because I don’t wanna stop playing. And we should get Quest 3 enhancements at some point soon, so it’ll become even better!!

make sure to play the first Asgard's Wrath if your PC can handle it... the graphics are much more detailed than possible on standalone apparently... gameplay is almost identical.

@lo-tar1442 I played this on release day and really wasn't impressed. Most of the time, I was just sitting there watching a bunch of cutscenes. Walking around and watching more cutscenes. Then a giant bird comes crashing in, and I was able to fight now. Wow, the combat is so jank and easy. Actually to easy...it felt automatic. I hope it gets better the more you play it. But, I had to turn it off because, I had work the next day. I will continue to play it. Because, why not. It was free. I enjoyed, the first one. I will say they did a good job of hiding the ugly. It looks good considering it is a Quest game. Maybe, after I reach a certain point it will open up and feel more active. I ❤️ good of War so if you say you get a Boomerang 🪃 Axe 🪓 I already know I will like it. 😉👌

@@WOojerVest3andQuest3onMe you saw the intro... Both games start with an intro that gets the player into their body and handling a melee weapon as practice... Then the combat actually gets realistic and enjoyable. The first game sort of lost me at the first location puzzle after learning to control teammates, but of the two I'm more interested in playing the first for graphics alone

I personally went with a balanced difficulty, but I’d say there were a few times where I wish it was harder, so for you Hard might be better. You can also try a balanced mode with less or no throwing assists which means you’ll require way more precision to nail your shots.

The first is PCVR only so you’ll need a gaming PC. It’s not required to play it as there’s a recap at the beginning of the 2nd one but if you want to, it’s still a great looking game and was very ahead of it’s time back in 2019.

Neither looks like it’s running on a toaster 😄. The first one was PCVR only, this one is Quest only, so for the first it depended on your PC but overall it was quite ahead of it’s time graphically. The second looks awesome for a standalone game but it won’t look like the first one running on a 4090 😄

Yes, absolutely! There’s an optional recap you can go through when starting it that catches you up story wise, and it’s super nicely made too cause it’s not just you watching a 2D screen, I loved the way they made it.

No it's not. Vr looks better than flat even with lower graphics because it's 3d and has more presence than you can notice watching it on a Flatscreen. 😢

then play the original AW for AAA graphics if you have a PC that can handle it.

I was very stoked for this game. However, after launching it, I was very disappointed. The graphics are terrible compared to the first part (PC Oculus), there is no anti-aliasing, the textures are blurry and not very detailed, and sometimes when there is more going on, the game suffers from fps drops. The first part on the PC took up about 130GB, and the second one takes up only 31GB!! I intended to play it only by streaming from the PC to the version downloaded in the Oculus application, but apart from the first part, the second part is not there. So for now, I'm putting this game aside because I'm used to higher graphics standards these days and I'm not going to torture myself just because someone suddenly came up with the idea that in the era of 4k LCD they'll give me a CRT monitor and tell me to play on it because that's how it is. All right. I will definitely come back to Asgards warth 2 when a full-fledged version is available for download and run in the Oculus application, in which version the graphics generation will be handled by the GPU in my computer.

The Quest 3 enhanced version is coming soon, but I think your expectations and comparison are way off. How are you comparing a PCVR game to a stand-alone headset? I’m 90% PCVR too, but still really love AW2. Of course the graphics won’t be at 4090 levels, but it’s like comparing a Nintendo Switch to a PS5 :))). The game is not coming to PCVR, it is a Quest stand-alone exclusive.

I simply think that this game should also be available in a PCVR version on the day of its premiere, since the first part could be and was, because it is probably normal that such poor graphics nowadays may not be liked by many people. Additionally, I am almost convinced that this current version absolutely does not take full advantage of the CPU of quest 3. What I meant was that you can't force them to play with a black and white image since it's been around for a long time and we all use color images! You don't do that and say it's great and great, because it's not great. If something is praised and advertised so much, the final product should be delivered as refined as possible, and here it could have been perfect at a low cost, but it turned out as it turned out, i.e. very average. Meta can play on PS3, I personally prefer PS5 and will reach for the next generation rather than the previous ones. And if you are still writing to me that a refined version of Quest 3 will be released, when this particular game is added to Quest 3 for free and is intended as a launch title to drive sales of these particular goggles, then I have absolutely nothing more to say here. something to say!:) So why do they add it to quest 3 and convince people that it's a game for these goggles when it's not a game that shows their capabilities?! They didn't have time to release the correct version? They couldn't release AW1 on PCVR? Embarrassing.

@@VRManCave party-specific could be interesting, but would require probably more servers than a MMO... wouldn't hold my breath but a MMO based on this game is not unfeasible. i doubt 'oculus studios' has the will though to build or maintain that.

i had no interest in response to this game as I never played the original, but seeing the mechanics and this review, I am VERY excited it was a free Quest 3 purchase ad on because its gonna absorb so much of my time!

Oh man the first one was sooo ahead of it's time. And even though it released in 2019 it still holds up very very well graphically today. The combat was a bit annoying, and it's been vastly improved in Asgard's Wrath 2. I believe you should be getting access to the first one for free as well if you have the second one. Check your Oculus Rift library in the PC app as you might have it already.

@@VRManCave Thanks but already found the info. One of the developers is active on reddit and confirmed that it runs a bit smoother 90hz vs 72hz (quest 2) due the headset but that's really it. They said an upgrade may come in the future but they were restricted had to make hard choices with development meaning quest 2 was the focus.

I am excited to play it as well. I am a big fan of the 1st game. It was a wonderful experience when I first transformed that Great White Shark into a playable companion I thought that was wild.

Maybe if ever brought over to PC, but Meta bought the developer so... that's very unlikely to happen. It's a shame PC misses out on almost every major VR game these days. It's either exclusive to PSVR2 or to the Quest. And while the exclusives to those platforms tend to impress in quality, content or both... the big games that do make it over to PCVR aren't exclusive and often fall short in terms of quality, content or both. Take Arizona Sunshine 2 for example. It's a good game, but it's $50 for a relatively short game that still has some major flaws.

But, it sucks for us PC gamers that invest a lot of money in to our PCs to play games in higher quality. I'll tell you where the sequel looks better than the first game: no smeary, shimmery temporal anti-aliasing. In the first game there are some objects that are hard to look at due to all the shimmering and aliasing issues, such as trees and foliage. And you need a monster GPU to be able to supersample high enough to mitigate this.

mmmh; in the end they exaggerate with playtime! I rather have 60 hours of well crafted and differentiated gameplay than 134 hours with a lot of repeating sidequest. And I don't even have time for 60 hours, since nowadays you get free games every week + UEVR will be released soon! But we'll see.

Regardless of how long a game is, someone will still complain it's either too short, or too long :)). Strictly the main storyline is around 60 hours, but with all the side quests and other missions it's 134. So far I didn't find them repetitive, and there's so much variety that it's unlikely you'll get bored unless you literally do the same sidequest over and over again. That being said, I've not yet finished the game, so we will see, but so far I'm super impressed and was not expecting it to be this good.

Goty? Idk, I feel like that gets slapped on every other game release. Gonna be, what, like 60 gb?

I've personally never called another game GOTY, but this one is really good. It's 30gb actually, which is surprising, and runs at native 90hz on Quest 3, no reprojection.

They started development 4 years ago when Quest 3 didn't even exist. I'm honestly happy that so many Quest 2 users can enjoy this, though you're right and I hope they do enhance it for Quest 3 at some point.

It's Quest 2 Graphics... so that is... GraphicsAdreno 650, up to 1.32 TFLOPS The Meta Quest 3 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 system-on-chip (SOC). The chip will use an Adreno 730 GPU, with 2.4 teraflops of power. My PC with RTX3090 offers 36 teraflops. The RTX4090 is 82.58 TF32 TFLOPS. I can't wait to see what the 50 series cards will do. But, I guess it won't matter for this game. Looks like it's a Quest 3 Exclusive to help sell the Headset. Which, by the way. I have one. 512GB Version. I am excited to play it. Even if the graphics suck ass. 😉👌😂😅

Fair enough, but the game is genuinely very good. And for Quest 3 owners they have it for free, so nothing to lose :)

Look, I was having heaps of fun in this game but I do think this playtime is misleading. Well, depending on how you look at it and depending on your cunning. There are some very serious head-scratchers in the game and they're all due to puzzles. I'd say over 60% of the game is just puzzles, which sucks because the combat truly feels great but every time you get the feeling for it, the game throws 10 puzzles at you that make me wanna quit. Especially since it's damn near impossible to look up the answer online. It was fine for the first couple of chapters but I'm at the second hero now and am feeling the puzzle fatigue hard. Every time I see a God Altar, I'm now like "welp, there goes another 15 minutes of my life trying to figure this out. If you love puzzles, this game is amazing but if you're not a fan or even if you're indifferent towards puzzles, you're going to get annoyed at some point. I think the game should have had like 50% less puzzles, not even kidding. It just feels like filler content so they can say "the game is soooo long". The combat and bosses are where this game shines and there's just not enough of that. All that said though, please don't mistake my criticism for hate. It's not. This is easily the most ambitious VR game I've ever played and I'm so so happy it exists. It's more or less what I've been looking for when I bought my Quest 2 2 years ago and I'm super excited to see other big studios attempt to create something similar. In a decade or so, this will be the game we'll say crawled so X game could run. It is instantly an important part of gaming history because I still think the future of gaming lies in VR

i kind of aggree but i also kinda get why they did it. My only thought for the first 5 hours was "where is my next victim" but then i got the rift. i murdered a load of guys there so i could get the combat i wanted and then moved on in teh story. puzzle solving is actually what i feel like emerges you in the world more than fighting so i liked it. There is the rift for full combat, and that completely solves this problem for me.

The exec director has said at least the Q3 doesn't use ASW and runs around 90fps most of the time, then throttles to 72fps for some more intense moments

Nope according to the devs it runs at 90hz native, no ASW, and after playing it for quite a bit that definitely feels like the case.

I have no interest in a 100+ VR game. I like VR, but it's still not nearly comfortable enough for anything that long IMO

I agree, but at the same time not everyone has a gaming PC. I do wish they would've released a PC version too, but looking at the market, there are way more people on Quest 2 and Quest 3 than there are on PCVR. Thanks for watching!

The meta quest 3 is very capable and will look even more so when games are built exclusively for it You have to appreciate aswell what the quest can do for the industry. The more popular it becomes because of the wire-free experience, the more Devs and industry attention will shift towards making VR better for all of us

@@VRManCave Well, there's negatives and positives to that... maybe not so much here, but in multiplayer games, less youngins have a big gaming pc, so games with higher requirements do a bit of automatic segregation that makes the environment a bit more pleasant, usually anyhow.. aka, not VRChat levels of noise and nonsense.

Man, this sounds like an unfocused mess. All those sponsored videos really dont make me optimistic, and the awful art style really confuses me, its hard to believe a professional studio made this.

​@@VRManCave Every game you get access to without buying it is a form of financial incentive, and i always treat it as such. I always wait for post release coverage before buying. And thats what i mean by unfocused, i dont see a central gameplay loop in any gameplay video, there is a lot of downtime with a million different mechanics. My main problem thought is how it just "dosnt look" like a system seller. No story bits, no waifus, no cool visuals to grab your eye, its looks like "just a game" and not something that will push quest 3 sales.
