Some really beautiful knives. It is so easy to go down one of those dang rabbit holes. Thanks for sharing and God bless.

Northwoods are a kind of the Holy of Holies of GEC, in my book. It's where I draw the line - those rabbits are safe from me down there! I never get tired if seeing your red #78 Stephen, not just because it's your first (my first is a Stag #48), but because it shows how GECs are meant to be enjoyed and USED long-term. David Anthony, who wrote the book about GEC, emphasises that the first and last rule for any collector of older knives is to Read The Knife (and not the branding etc). This is exactly what you're illustrating with those examples Paddy.

I like that you collect classic slipjoints that are beautiful with no concern of the price point. I hate watching videos of people with 10 GEC new releases.

I just got two of the Bear and Son Large Barlows which are very similar to that Northwoods you led off with and they appear to be close to perfect for around $60 Someday I’ll get my hands on a GEC knife

This year has been all about GEC's and custom fixed blade EDC knives. I got kind of bored of modern folders. I really want a 93 Eureka Jack in Sambar stag. Besides that I got a few knives in K390 being made by Northern Knife works.

Why these wonderful and useful designs of spear blade are no longer produced? They were tested by users along the decades. With such a guarantee I wonder why.. I am looking for a spear blade like the marbles in a budget knife without luck

if you remember nobody really gave a crap about Northwoods knives and were always considered a cut below GEC stuff and Derek passes away and then they get hyped. They were not finished as well as GEC regular stuff and not being flat ground meant they weren't great cutters and that was the complaint about them. They look good but as for being great cutter's they are not and I remember they were $70 and people still didn't care. Plaza Cutlery in Costa Mesa was getting custom GEC's also and they have been out of business for 7 years. Should we hype those GEC's and put lipstick on a pig also ? Plaza Cutlery stuff was like Northfield stuff and again nobody cared. I remember whittler's closed out there for $50-ish because nobody cared. Let's remember kid's it's all a hype game. Jackwolf anyone ? A $150-ish knife that are almost $300. Hopefully people will wake up from that cash grab that uses social media people to hype their brand and give them free merchandise because they know how much of follow the leader so many brain dead knife people are and play to it to sucker people. Overpriced flashlights are another sucker's game. Don't get me started on how sleazy the EDC world is and has become even worse the last 5-ish years. so many suckers to prey upon that are gullible and naive and want to keep up with the cool kids online. It's vomit !!!
