I really enjoy watching your channel because you are so positive about each knife you show. Not all knives are finished to the same standards, and you recognize that. However, you do not hold that against a lower quality knife; you still appreciate it for what it is. That is very refreshing in a seemingly competitive space where everyone is posting videos vying for the "best" knife. Keep up the great work!

I just ran across a seller on eBay that was selling these Al Mar knives for $60ish. My first thought was they must be counterfeit, but after doing two minutes of research I discovered they have moved production to China. I had a friend that had a little stubby Al Mar years ago Always wish I had one. After seeing your overview here I may go ahead and grab one.

I used to own an Al Mar knife similar to what you're showing here. Bought it back in the 80s, in a knife store located in Alameda California. I think it was in AUS 8 steel made in Seki City Japan. Don't know what happened to it. Not in my collection anymore. 😢
@RiderOftheNorth19682 күн бұрын
Al Mar was made by Moki in Japan before. I do not know when that changed. Moki also made the top series of Spyderco folders before those moved to Korea. I have read, somewhere, that Moki admits that they made Spyderco to a lower quality than they made their own knives. They followed the exact specs that Spyderco wanted. Moki said that it was refreshing to make their own knives so they could work on the quality level they think knives should be on. Worth noting about this comparison: The Al Mar is a top of the line model. The Moki is, basically, a semi budget model. Go for a top of the line Moki and feel the difference. One thing people seldom understand about chinese production: You can order whatever you like from the chinese production units and you get exactly what you ordered. So if you order cheap crap, guess what you get?! Don´t just blame chinese crap on China, blame it on the western company that ordered it!!

Hey Paddy, I just picked up my Bexar and couldn't help but notice that your Bugout is actually a counterfeit. There are many ways to tell nowadays and your Bugout unfortunately checks all of the boxes. I can provide you some details privately if you want to confirm for yourself. Great video and comparisons though with the Bexar! Mine is really gritty even after disassembly/cleaning, so I guess I'll see how things turn out after it breaks in.

My choices will probably be quite different, but that’s a good thing as people need variety. The only one that I would disagree with violently is the tactile.Bexar.
