For the final piece that I purchased from the MOD collection two weeks ago - I got the Lean, Mean, Green Machine of an R9 officially known as "Croc-o-melon" on the Gibson box. This interesting green gloss top 1959 Les Paul Reissue has an open pore satin back finish and a really interesting pickup set known as the Gibson P94. I've never had a guitar with dedicated P94R / P94T pickups - only the Les Paul Push Tone that gave you the option to swap these in. I've got to say - I was really impressed by the tones of them in this guitar much more so than on the push tone!

Guitarist and master producer Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar, Grady, Snakes of Central Texas) is a HUGE P-94 guy - and his tone is monstrous. He has a signature Gibson P-94 equipped SG that was a Canada-only release (it was actually the original “SGJ” as a pun on his initials, before the lower end SGJs of the mid-2010s). You should see if you can get your hands on it to document someday, although it’s pretty rare.
Excellent top ! The green makes the flames pop so much . Kind of looks like an anaconda burst without the black border . Keep up the great work Trogly !
P-90s are my favorite pups, but these new 94s are nice too. This guitar sounds good. It has some twang.

Yeah, this is a bloody expensive guitar, and your conclusion is twang. Many people refuse to say more than a oneliner. This is what you end up with. Next model has twang boom, I reckon?

This is one of my favorite looking Les Paul's that you've documented in a while Austin! I love that color green and the nice glossy top and the green back and sides as well, looks amazing! I only wish they would have done a gloss finish on the headstock and put the silk screen Les Paul logo on it. I wasn't as crazy about the white knobs but I could live with them because everything else works so well. Surprised at how nice the P94 sounded, something different. If money Was No Object I definitely would be grabbing this one for myself!
One of my favourite guitars is a Hamer USA with Seymour Duncan Phat Cat pickups (which are their version of the P94). Back in the day the Phat Cats were better in my opinion than the true P90s that Seymour Duncan were making, probably because the SD P90s at that time used ceramic magnets whereas the Phat Cats used Alnico.
Love your attention to detail - you show every pro & con on the example that you have. I love the white speed knobs, however I agree with you that the plastic parts should be black, to match the head stock. Beautiful finish on the top.
p-94's rock! i had a neck version matched with a seth lover in a full hollow guitar and that was probably the best vintage toned guitar ive ever heard in 40+yrs of playing. and yes they took overdrive very well.
Some of the most amazing guitars I’ve ever seen I have appeared on this channel. Thanks👍🏻
Salutations Austin! Nice guitar! I really like the green finish! I tried to purchase an Emerald Green Flame Top Les Paul a couple of years ago, but ended up getting ripped off, and the guitar never arrived, fortunately I didn’t lose too much cash in the process, but I am extra cautious about ordering online nowadays, so it was a good learning experience. This was a good demonstration of the P-94’s too. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
That is one of the best looking Gibsons that I’ve ever seen. Gorgeous!
Yes black plastics would look better. Pretty sad the wiring on the pots just "falls off"
I put a Toneriders P94 in the neck of my Vintage vs6/sg and it sounds awesome. P94's are a great option for getting some different tones and extra bite out of a humbucker routed guitar
I am definitely feeling that guitar! Gibson needs to make more like that! It sounds so good!
i like the pink case inside because it actually makes it look like the inside of a watermelon. great episode!
Really thought you were going to say at the end that you were going to keep this one as your own personal player guitar. Gorgeous piece
I’m kinda a new fan of yours and have enjoyed every one of them and now I’m going back to see the videos of the past… I’ve always been a Green Guitar fan and had a 69 Univox Coli (335 style) that was labeled Ponderosa Green… But I’m really liking the Greens Like this one and many of the other Greens you’ve done demos on… I’ve owned Gibsons, Fenders along with my Univox, that were all in the mid 60’s thru the early 70’s, but traveling around North America, doing some Military tours and just doing my thing, I sold them off, 😢… Now I’m just playing my Lagg Tramontane T66ACE at home, which I can say I’m enjoying this guitar for the price I paid cause the past owner didn’t know how nice it was… Have a great day and year… I’ll be looking for a new video today… 👍🏼☮️ Thanks for taking the time and effort to give these awesome videos, even though I couldn’t touch the case, more or less own one now, but it’s nice to Christmas Wish…🙏🏼
I think the closest thing to P-94's that are widely available are Seymour Duncan Phat Cats. I've got one in the neck of my 2010 Epiphone Wilshire Pro.
That is a very nice guitar, from its beautiful top, to the excellent sounding P94 pickups. I think the resonance of it acoustically is being captured by the pickups, and is adding to the richness of its tone. The guitar might look even better if it had a green Truss Rod Cover. I'd be tempted to ask Gibson if they could do that for you. It would make the satin Headstock look extra cool if it matched to top.
I’m rather astonished at the finish work from Gibson at any of their price points. I’d expect so much more. Beautiful top on that guitar!

Gibson are their own, best advert for something else - especially their own Epiphones!
Love the sound of those pickups! Very nice looking guitar as well. Two thumbs up.
The gator skin on the pickups is a common leatherette material you can buy easily online. I’ve used it to cover a couple of amp cabinets. Looks cool on an amp, cool to see it on a pickup.
That is a cool r9 Les paul.i really dig it!I dig the cool, green case.agreed on glossing the headstock
Wow, beautiful guitar.
Great clean and distorted pick up sounds! Black plastics = a keeper, upgrade the tuners! Love the green top and green case.

Those stark white pickup surrounds just hurt. The headstock is awful, the truss rod cover is gross. Apart from that I like it, yep! even the croc skin pickups (No one ever said I suffered from good taste). Sounds great.
Great color & awesome top.
Wow, man that is an awesome guitar, and those pickups, amazing. I’m not a green guitar guy, but I would definitely own that one. The treble bleed is for when the volume is rolled down, you don’t lose and treble. Normally, it would get a little bassy when the volume is rolled back.
New drinking game, now that Trogly knows the word, you take a shot every time he says “chatoyant”.
Wow the Croco-melon / Mellodile / Mellogator really inspired some great tones out of you! Like to see satin necks but with pore filled, it's faster.

with the lifton case I thought it was watermelon bubble-yum gum
Those white knobs are making it pop so much. Looks amazing
I put the candy apple dark blue suround in several passes lightly to my taste to break up that much grn ,on flame top turned out paradise .gold hats.
Croco-Mello-Tron ...I love the total package ...The only thing might be the knobs ...black or even cream or gold...The PU rings too
It's a cool guitar. Funky to have the alligator-skin effect on the pickups and the top is incredibly striking. The dings and tooling marks are a "feature".
That's pretty much a dream guitar for me. I love green and woodgrain. Beautiful guitar. I'd love to record at home with that thing.

@@markcheetah4960 I'm just a casual at home hobbyist but I couldn't imagine gigging with a les paul considering how heavy they are...it'd definitely be a home studio guitar for me.
12:19 it’s a beauty P94 sound great. I don’t know why Gibson doesn’t do more colors like this on USA model’s
I totally dig the guitar. Sounds great, looks awesome!
Man, that's a keeper.
I have an Epiphone Nick Valensi (The Strokes) signature Riviera with Gibson P-94s. They aren't a quite as snappy sounding as I'd like, but that's probably the semi-hollow body softening them a bit.
That guitar is gorgeous, love the open pore back with the gloss top love green guitars too
I really dig this LP! great tone, does need black plastic
The green , the flame top , the satin back , superb combination 👌
Cool green flame 🔥
Nice top! The pups sound really vintage like. I'd rock it.
Wow! The P94's sound killer!!
I have a 96/97 Gibson Les Paul Studio that came stock with P-94 pickups and It rocks. I have been searching for more Gibson P-94 to replace in son of my other guitars
I bought a cheap Oscar Schmidt 335 copy from a local music store in my area....Previous owner put P94s in it....I love that guitar...I have yet to see one with the original humbuckers in person I want to play one to compare it.
That is an incredibly cool colour for a guitar that screams unique, but to hell with that price tag. If I ever see one like this at an affordable price range though, yep, definitely my kind of thing.
Love those P94s, they sound better than an H'bucker in all areas. A big fat P90 I'm sold, thanks Austin
I want that so much! I love green guitars, and that would be perfect for me. I'd change all the white plastics, and the machineheads, but that's about it.
It would look so cool with a mother of pearl poker chip and truss rod cover.
I'd love to see an R9 with a flamed top, an orange honey burst finish, with black plastics, black binding and a white headstock...it would be like a tiger haha
That's such a cool top but the button tuners have to go those things are just downright ugly !!!
I need to get a P-94 neck to put on my SG!! I think it'll pair great with a 57+ Classic
Beautiful axe!
Damn that is gorgeous. Always wanted a green LP
Love the green
I'm a big fan of the P-94's. I got a set in my 2008 Gibson Les Paul Push Tone. It came with a set of Burstbuckers & P-94's. I usually rock one of each in mine but I do love the pair of P-94's together. Love the color on this guitar. I've got to see where I can get a set of alligator skin covers for my pickups. EDIT: Having to put a piece of tape on a solder joint to get it to work properly on a nearly $7000 guitar is ridiculous! That infamous Gibson QC strikes again.
Great playing, Austin!
I love how Trogley has pointed out the Shania Twain effect on the guitars he's reviewed as of late. 😉😊🤗

Lol!!! 🤣
Why do I love this guitar!! I am usually not keen on green! Love the look and sound.
Ya gotta put on a green Trogly’s T-shirt to match the green screen and green guitar!
What a flame top No cross graining. I’d love to hear the difference between the P94s to P90s. A gorgeous instrument to say the least
That same style finish in deep blue or deep red would look nice in my living room...
Sounds good I'm a P 90 fan so I like. On the fence with the color but to each there own.
I have a set of Kent Armstrong "P-94's" in my 2006 BC Rick Mockingbird.
Swap the white plastic for black and put on some other tuners. Color is sick 🤘🤘
I have the Lee Malia signature Epiphone with a Gibson P 94 in the neck. I love the sound in the Bridge also great guitar.
Breathtaking!!!! I bought an IYV from Vietnam in that colour a few years back. If and when Gibson puts out something affordable in that colour, I'd be on it like a fat kid on cake.
Cool guitar, Austin.
love this one
Nice tone! Sold on the P94s
I got a Gibson p94 with a paf sticker, gold with cream top. Does anyone know when p94 were first made?
Killer Top, just superb👍🎵😎
Yeah the plastics kind of kill it it definitely needs black plastics and honestly green and gold together are really nice
I'm not a green guitar fan, but that top is gorgeous. I prefer the Kluson keystone tuner, the green tint would work with that croc theme, too.
This looks like my PRS 594 in Les Paul form. Love that finish.
Green case is the best....beautiful top and a great shade of green.

Love it
I like it a lot. But I'd have to swap out the nylon bridge saddles.
The inspector was R Justice - sounds apt for a quality control job. The position of the 15 fret inlay looks off?
🤣"A strip of jerky..." Lol
Very cool guitar. 👍🏽
That neck pickup sounds sick!
How beautiful!
What a gorgeous guitar.
Oh my god that finish is my DREAM finish. It's so beautiful. I wish I could afford something in that color with that sort of top :(
Good licks
Some of the best playing you've done trog.. that is a pretty green and I agree it should be black accessories
Me want kelp guitar... But white poker chip and some handwound humbuckies
The white pieces aren't for me, but I do enjoy a nice green guitar. This is nicer looking than most of what you review on the channel.
I'm liking this guitar so much
I love those pickups! Had them in a couple of guitars, but sold them. Now I’m sad 😢 Question: what’s the point of having treble bleed in the tone pots?
Reminds me of my IYV ILS-300.
Wow, even for the case! I’d love just the case for my brown LP Studio!
The P94's sound a lot different than even the hottest P90. Very aggressive. I dig the case and the top. Not so crazy about the pitted back and faux alligator pickup cover. Seems like a marketing idea to get a "Gator Green" thing happening. I do like that top.
Love that guitar. I love green guitars!
Those P94's rip. I'd definitely swap black plastics in for the white & stick some vintage Kluson tuners in there though. An R9 should have proper tuners (imho of course).
It looks like the Sweetwater green ocean burst exclusive classic that I wanted
3:21 the pink definitely makes it more of a MELON! :)
Cool guitar
