Hello from NZ! I am a ecologist and work in threatened bird conservation. Great work rescuing that owl! You guys did a great job, but a future tip for everyone. When releasing birds, try to release them onto something. If it's a small bird you can let it go on your hand, or a bigger bird on a ledge or the ground. If they are stressed and out of energy they might take a few moments to recover, so they could drop to the ground and hurt themselves. But it was clear this owl still had lots of energy as you walked to the window, it was ready to fly. So well handled 😊

Tip in case you find another bird that doesn't fly away: Put them in a cardboard box in a (warm) quiet place for a while so they can calm down. Wild birds use a lot of energy if they are stressed and quickly get exhausted. If it still doesn't fly, try to find out if there's a wildlife rescue close to you. I ringed birds for a while and when the smaller ones got too tired/cold to fly away we would put them in a little cotton bag and I put them inside my hoodie to warm up.

I had a young starling trapped in my flu, but it had fallen right through into the log burner itself. Thankfully no fires had been lit in it for a while, so we could rescue the frightened little thing, but the noise it made calling to its wider flock, was really loud, and frightening for us until we found what it was.. When we took it outside, we were amazed to see the flock all sitting on our roof and telephone wires, waiting, and they all immediately flew in sequence round and round our garden skies, happy for its return. (I live in the country).

Bravo, Philipp. We had a pair of crows who broke in through our stove whilst we were away and caused a bit of a mess. Sadly one died, and although we released the other he hung around for weeks looking for his mate. Lesson learned - we never leave a stove door open now and have the tops wired up, but so sad. We also had an owl who came into my study one evening. We opened the window and he left during the night.

This reminds me of the hummingbird that flew into my apartment one night. It liked to fly around my high ceilings and skylights. Which was torture to watch for over an hour. Finally it wore itself out and I could pluck it from the baseboards and throw it off the balcony. It was scary and sad. Luckily my cat just watched the whole time. Phew! Well done you two! 👏💙

We live in a single story house in Australia. A few years back we fitted a similar fire to yours, it was in the summer so had not tried to light it. One day I was sat in my armchair next to the fire and through the glass, I saw a huge huntsman spider! They are not venomous but pretty scary to look at....he was about 5" across (with the legs) but there was no way I was going to 'rescue' that beasty. I trust he left the same way he came in.

Very nice episode. it was hilarious when the owl was revealed and had alternating blinking eyes. The blur to cover the crack of the man of the house when he was tackling the shower was a nice esthetic touch of cinematography.

Thank goodness you saved that beautiful owl. I had a crow once fall down into my log burner (it was not on) so I opened the glass door, and managed to get it to go out of the window, poor thing, what a shock it must have been for it. Birds just seem to like going down chimneys it seems! xxx

What about adding a strong, rigid screen over the top of the flue on the roof? Google says: Bird screens are great at keeping unwanted visitors out, but they are not the only tool for this job. Both a chimney cap and a top-end damper work well for keeping out birds, raccoons, and other woodland creatures too. They also work to help prevent downdrafts, leaks, and debris buildup, too. You are both kind-hearted souls for your concern about the trapped owl. Great job freeing it!

I once had the privilege of saving a hummingbird. It was a male and had spent hours fighting off other males and finally could fight no longer. As he fell, I was able to catch him. I made a cup of sugar water and holding him in my hands I gently held his beak in the sugar water until he began to rally. As soon as he began trying to flutter I released him. Needless to say I was very happy to see him fly away.❤

Every year we had Jackdoors falling down onto our Inglenook register plate. We had a log burner and a trap door into that plate. I used to put a long stick in , the Jackdoors would jump on the stick which I then gently pulled out and put them out the window. I got quite good at it over the twelve years we lived there. It was usually baby birds that fell out the nest in the top of the chimney. All good fun.

A handsome man saving an owl, now that was nice to see. Very good Anna you directing Philip to save the owl. I believe most people put some metal screening over the top of their chimneys and that way nothing can enter, otherwise it may happen again. So so lucky that owl was saved.

The owl was so cute! It reminded me of a tiny "Northern Saw-Whet Owl" that is found in a portion of the United States, although I realize that it could not have been one. I ❤ that this wasn't planned, it just shows some of the 'happenings' in the Chateau and Philip turned out to be a hero!😊👍 Great video!

Loved that you could save the owl, such a beautiful bird. I was amazed that it didn't panic and fly when you approached, whenever we have had birds in the house they panic and fly into things. Wonder how it could get in through your chimney topper, our chimney sweep told me birds can't get into the flue with a 'top hat' in place. Love the design for the wardrobes and vanity, just know it wil be stunning having seen Benoit's work in the kitchen. ❤

Philipp, I love your sense of humor and that you’re teaching your daughter to follow in your sarcastic ways. And Benoit is correct about the height of sinks going up. And poor Anna, after all that work on the glue and along comes Benoit and with a few taps of his hammer removes it.
