I've left so many Gold Nuggets in the ground, going back with the Minelab GPX 6000 Metal Detector

These are exciting times as there is a new gold prospecting tool in my kit. The GPX 6000 metal detector is Minelab's newest model on the market and in my opinion metal detecting for gold nuggets has never been this easy.

On the other hand the 6000 is so much lighter and therefore allows us to swing it longer. They both have their pros and cons and their place in certain environments, plus it also depends on the operator which detector will suit them best ⛏

The same may be said about the CTX 3030 and the Equinox after playing with both there is no way I’d buy a CTX. It’s very hard to beat the machine you are good at using, the “6” will find gold with very little instruction and we are yet to see anyone good with the “6”!

I do not know how it happened that KZread first suggested one of your videos, but I have certainly found them interesting. There is something fascinating about the idea of searching for gold, that I find myself thinking that I would like to try again. I did try, many years ago, with what was at that time regarded by many as “the best” detector on the market. The technology of metal detectors has become much more sophisticated, and modern detectors are able to sense the presence of tiny pieces of gold that my old detector cannot recognise at all. When I consider that when gold was first discovered in at Kalgoorlie Western Australia, it was a horse that stumbled on a gold nugget at the surface. My thinking has been that if large nuggets were found at the surface, then hopefully there should be more below the surface. Perhaps there might not be many, but they might be there. The detectors which you have been using have certainly enabled you to find very small pieces of gold, and there is the possibility that you might find one of those elusive (bigger) nuggets a bit deeper in the soil. I watched your video where you used a grid pattern to check the entire ground surface, and I feel that this method gives the highest possibility of finding any gold which is in the ground beneath your feet. I am therefore curious as to the reasons why you often take moderately long steps as you scan your detector from side to side, and therefore scan only about 25 percent of the ground you are walking over.

Hi Krissy excellent and accurate review, Have been using both the 7k, and the 6k since it came out last year. The 7k is king, but the 6k is right up there. I now use both on patches, and find the 6k the best option to start on old patches, and others patches. Pulled 5 nuggets from one of my old patches, and the best I have done is a 20 grammar from 500mm deep. Matched with the NF 16x10 it will be a deadly combination. I do like the sharp response on signals and find it is possible to patch find at a faster speed than the 7k. Enjoy your vids every time I get to town. Thank you MC

Very nice new detector. I had a cheap detector for years and took it to work. A friend and I walked it over the large work grounds and detected lots of underground bunkers just beneath the surface. Turns out that, being a telecoms facility, there were lots of underground chambers built to test telecoms cables. Concrete driveway had been built over them and no-one was aware of their existence.

Nice haul Krissy & it's a case of "horses for courses" with detectors isn't it. Some work well in certain conditions & others won't pick up a 6" nail in the same ground. Your very lucky to have a choice to make now. The old "bury a small nugget" comparison test in different ground can help with the choice of which machine. I have found my old "Groundhog" "6 & 10" co planar coils, along with the "surprise me again " gold Monster 1000 does me ok on my limited budget.

The “6” is awesome! The signal is lifted but you still get whispers, keep listening closely. You will find gold that the scales can’t register. Normal ground is in Africa not Australia! Don’t underestimate Auto 1, in rapidly changing ground it will turn the sensitivity UP as well as down faster than you realise the ground has changed. You can turn on the threshold in auto 1 by holding the ground type button for about 10 seconds. You can also turn the threshold off in manual the same way.

Fantastic Krissy, like most Sundays I get back from detecting and turn on the utube and go straight to your program, the GPX6000 is a amazing machine, the settings I use over here in the NT are I have it in difficult mode and turn the sensitivity to it's lowest setting then plus two beeps and off I go, I haven't tried the headphones yet, maybe soon, I got a 0.71grammer today in a spot I went back to then walked up a hill for a while for nothing more, tomorrow it's down to the creek on the other side of the hill, we shall see if I can pick up the reef again, have a really great day and you will get sick of digging with the 6000. Atmospheric conditions and solar activity will also change the performance of a detector, even the exact same machine you had there last time you were at that spot, most machines auto tune to the current background noise so you don't really know how much interference you are copping from day to day, a few vids ago you commented that the ground was really quiet that day in a spot you had detected before, I'm guessing it was to do with weather and solar conditions.

Thankyou so much for the video. I am really struggling on which one to buy 6 or 7000. The 6000 being so light is a major plus. It will be interesting to see how much you use it

Truly Amazing how well these Detectors work on Fine gold ! Went to the Minelab webpage for the GPX6000 . . . . lets see, if I traded in my Mercedes . . . I could afford the Trailer I'd need to haul my detector behind my Land Rover . . . Oh Yea, don't forget the Quad . . . Yep, gonna have to Morgage the House too I guess : / Anyways, Nice Speci and "prickly bits" (hey, that sounds kewl in Any accent!) Be Kewl, Stay Safe & Hav Fun !

The 6000 is a super machine. I now use it more than my 7000 on well known gold patches. You had no fear heading cross country on your ARV. What GPS system do you use and what emergency contact unit do you use?

Hi Randy, I use a GPS (Garmin Montana) and an app on my phone (Trilobite - Australian geology travel maps) for orientation. There is also a PLB in my backpack at all times 👍🏻

Love my 6000, found a heap with it. Those settings are exactly what I run most of the time. Just wait until you attach a Nugget Finder coil onto it, it’ll be an even better machine 😉 Definitely have the best of both worlds now with the 6000 & 7000.

What size NF coil do you recommend? 8x6, 12x7, or 16x10? I am leaning to getting the 12x7.

Hi Krissy I always look for your videos as the come out and love them Keep up the good work. Can you find some way to carry a spare wheel on your quad bike plus some tools to change a wheel if you stake a tyre. Thank you for showing us all your hard work.
