Easy Listening, also known as mood music, was a popular music genre and radio format that flourished from the 1950s to the 1970s. It is related to middle-of-the-road (MOR) music and typically consists of instrumental renditions of standards, hit songs, and popular non-rock vocals from the previous three decades, often featuring soft strings and a pops orchestra. Easy listening began between the big band era & rock and roll era. Research has shown that over half the population is tone-deaf and unable to distinguish between easy-listening music and elevator music. However, the main difference between the two lies in the depth of instrumentation of the orchestra and the level of passion present in the performance.
