I've Eaten Only Mac & Cheese for the Past 17 Years, Here's Why

Ойын-сауық

For most people, eating nothing but mac and cheese seems like a childhood fantasy. But for 20-year-old Austin Davis, who has been eating nothing but mac and cheese for the past 17 years, it’s not a fantasy -- it’s his reality and has become his affliction. For Austin, it’s about much more than just “liking” mac and cheese. Austin suffers from Selective Eating Disorder, also known as Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, an anxiety disorder that’s characterized by the persistent refusal to eat specific foods or refusal to eat any type of food due to a negative response from certain sensory characteristics of that food.
VICE travels to Florida to meet Austin to learn more about the origins of his eating disorder and join him as he embarks on his journey towards recovery.

Cow's milk is mother's milk. The female cows are impregnated against their will, raped and killed when they can no longer produce milk like her male babys which are also being killed. By the way, most people are lactose intolerant because the mother's milk of other mammals is not made for the human body. The milk is white, among other things, because it contains some pus and blood. Live vegan instead of cruel! If you can‘t see animals being killed and tortured for you, what must it be like for the victim?! Most of you are cowardly speciesists, hypocrites and deniers of reality. Shame on you! Most of the people who send animals to slaughterhouses would be angry if somebody hit a cat.

@Katie Giles Diet can have an impact on most people's complexion. Some people are blessed genetically. I've noticed personally with my skin when I drink only soda and eat lots of dairy my skin tends to be more red and I break out. Maybe you are fortunate enough to not have very acne prone and inflamed skin. For some of us it takes more than a few products to fix this and more of a change in lifestyle. We're all different so what I need to maintain a clear complexion may not be what you and others need. Cheer up, and have a nice day!

My nephew is autistic and it’s taken us years to get him to eat more. It took a while to switch him from milk to real food as a baby and then he got used to baby food and it took years to get him to start eating real food. The way this man speaks leads me to believe it’s a texture issue and he doesn’t trust even the Pots used to cook it so it’s not just an addiction. He also said he doesn’t necessarily like the flavor it’s just all he can eat. So many key points he made leads to him being on the spectrum. Not necessarily autism but you don’t know anyone’s story to just boldly assume he just eats the same thing daily for fun. Thinking of how much that would tire a sane person should be enough information for you to know you’re speaking out of pure ignorance.

Nobody is truly ever a weirdo. Everybody has a different story. Different childhood experiences, different first times, and different personalities and tendencies. If you spend time talking to a weird person, you’ll see that nobody is actually weird, and nobody is normal; we just have different stories, that’s all. :)

I dated a guy who lived with his grandmother when he grew up and she only cooked very bland meals. He only ate Mac ‘n cheese, pizza, cheeseburgers, or Alfredo pasta. No spices or herbs at all, not even pepper or basil. It eventually became a problem, as we could never go out to Chinese or Indian restaurants and it was extremely hard to cook him dinner. I tried to be supportive, but it impacted our relationship more than I thought it would.

That's because it is an OCD issue. He even explicitly said it's about control and safety. Addiction is at its core an OCD type of issue.... @@ewetn1 you make a great point. I for sure could class my drug addiction as an “obsessive”, “compulsory” experience . It almost seems like there are two different people that inhabit my body; one is , I think, somewhat nice and good person, one is completely selfish and destructive self-deprecating; antithetical and yet inversely equal to what I feel is my soul-self...if that’s a thing. @@ewetn1 OCD is a disorder, not a disorder type. Addiction has nothing to do with OCD. It is entirely it’s own thing. He very well may have OCD, but he also has an anxiety disorder (the selective eating disorder mentioned in the video). They can be related and they can work together but they are not the same. Shame is also not the driving force of addiction. Shame may be a reason people don’t reach out for help when they know they need it. But addiction comes from a biological process in the brain that affects your neurotransmitters. Your description makes addiction sound beautiful, sure, and makes the reasoning sound nice. It’s just simply misinformation.

That's a sad story. I remember when I had babysitters that were f'n weird af... But they'd never feed us... So, one time they finally made me those idk what you call it. But it's kinda the same thing. But those noodles are small cylinder shapes. & I was small so I couldn't finish it all. I just didn't have the appetite for it at that point. I mean, I was hungry! Not damn starving. But they were gonna try & make me sit there till I finished it. I sat there for a good while till my mom came. I was about to cry. They were so forceful about it too tho. Actually, we spent most of our time w/ the kids b.sitting us rather than the actual parents. but it was the mom who tried doing that. So my mom came & she wasn't having it. I hate it when ppl try to stereotype Asians as meek and wtf not. Well... At that point, no. After so much of their bs my parents were like f it. Our kids are going back to the inner city school, where they actually live. But shortly moved to the suburbs. Iive been diagnosed w/ ptsd too, just not over this. But 🤔 idk. Maybe ppl really do have some kind of attachment to food...(not implying my sh is over food). I just know i still remember that sh! I was like 5- 7, at most.

Regardless I went, and found out not only did I have ADHD but was also mildly autism and depression (probably from all the years not seeking help). With that said just don't accept any diagnose, it took me time and a lot of different therapists to come to this, but now I feel more stable and happier than ever.
