Very true and from my experience if you do not maintain any vehicle no matter the make and model it will have lots of problems and a short life so with proper maintenance and care you can run any car high milage as manufacturing has become so advanced that mistakes are rare so being brand specific is a thing of the past

@Sewell Laughrun all chrysler and plymouth and dodge newer stuff must be the same in that way, because my mom keeps buying stupid caravans and they are such money pits, its always something going bad and costing a fortune if i and my dad didnt fix what we could ourselves. But her new tincan caravan is so bad. Got it used from a rental car company, which really should be a big glaring impending doom feeling, but nooooooooo. She goes and buys this crap without saying anything to me, and i had told her to go look at T.Siennas, and she shows up with a newish caravan and i told her right then, you are going to regret it and within a month the back brake lines and brakes began seizing up and then right after she had it in for a giant pile of money removal, the damn transmission screwedup and wouldn't drive in any fast gears and went into "limp mode" while we were trying to get her to a eye surgery checkup and back home and we are on the expressway driving thirty as its the top speed it will go, which i guess is better than completely nonfunctional. So they ended up having to replace the whole transmission as it died bad inside, but the repair shop and insurance dept. screwed around fora month dithering about covering it that she called the owner of the dealership and he was unaware of the issues going on and he went and talked to all of them and must have roasted them because they called mom back and said they were going to replace it all and do everything for free for having had to go without a car for weeks when my dad needed to get to doctor appointments and procedures in a car with air conditioning.

@@d.aardent9382 I'm sorry for the bad car. I worked at the Airport and have used tons of rentals on business, NEVER buy a used rental.... Unfortunately alot of car lots don't tell you, we have a dealership that is made up of about 90% rental returns. I looked at the car and said bet this is a rental (Base model, color, etc) I asked for the Carfax which made the sales guy twitch, I had him pull 3 cars, 3 appeared as Fleet Rentals. 220,409 miles on my 09 5.7 Ram trx4. Only modification has been a 2 1/2 inch “lift”on the front, and 3 inch on the rear. The only mechanical issue I had experienced was the front passenger break caliper coming lose and ultimately having to be replaced. That is, until last week my check engine light came on. Throwing a P0456 code. Evaporative Emission System Leak (very small leak). Could be something as simple as a bad gas cap. Until this truck I’d only ever owned a Ford with strong product loyalty and the definition of Dodge meaning to avoid. But today I love this truck. Maybe I just got lucky.

I have a 2017, that I bought n new in 2016, and so far I have put 45000 miles on it. It runs like it just came out of the showroom. The only thing I've ever had to do was buy a battery last year and this year I got new tires. It will need brakes in the spring but that's it. The 5.7 makes it a joy to drive on the highway, where I do most of my driving.

I've had two, over a twenty plus time span, a Carina and I'm still driving an Avensis, European models. Any time I got the urge to get another car, I just gave the car a good mechanical make over, general stuff, treated it 😆 and a good valeting, to get over that urge. I felt real good not spending thousands on a new car I never needed, just for that feeling. I think you should have kept that Celica, I still regret getting rid of that Carina, even though the Avensis is equally great, just because I probably could still have kept that running good, but I caved 😅😅😅

For those who don't know, banging on the starter actually does the trick sometimes. Always try that before calling a tow truck. The starter died on my 2005 Accord at ~200k miles. For several months, I kept a really long screw driver in the trunk to reach down and bang on it when the solenoid wouldn't engage. This worked until I finally got around to replacing it (Honda decided to put it under the intake manifold). The starter on my 4 cylinder was the same size as on that Ram pickup in this vid, just to confirm what Scotty said about how undersized it is. No wonder it burned out.

Rams have always been solid trucks. I'm sorry but here in the midwest Toyota trucks are not common. Simply because they just don't keep up with the big boy brands. I had to tow with a Tundra once, and see why you don't see a lot of them on the road around here. That 07 RAM is pretty clean. Most Chevys from that era would be rusted out at every wheel with a tick on cold start.

Truth why pre 1980 vehicles are much easier to work on. I miss the days when pickups were pretty plain. Remember those days. You could get a work truck with no carpet, no air, maybe just an AM radio and a base V8. My dad's last truck was a 85 Ford F150 with the 300, 6 cylinder , no air , no carpet, just a AM radio. He only used it for stuff around the house and hauling things.

Right, shocker, cheap Ebay parts. Even if its non-Chrysler, if you understand it enough about what a part does... plastic bushings wont last. Thats why Dodge wanted $350 for a window regulator and $200 to install it. a part from the factory can be designed to fail, so you go back to the parts counter at the dealer and bend over... OR you research and find the same part for less. Best example, Aston Martin V12s and their fuel injectors, $1200 or same part number as a Ford Taurus for $100.

Scotty; my 1998 Ram 1500 with 205,000 runs great. I’m original owner. But I follow your maintenance guidance. The early problems I had was a bad Timkin bearing in the rear end. Mechanic said they had problems with the Mexico Dana rear ends. They wanted 1500 to fix (20 years ago) I fixed it for less than $100. It took me about 4 hours. I did replace water pump. I replaced the intake manifold gasket to reduce oil consumption. Of course I regularly replaced fluids. I ordered a new Ford truck based on your recommendation since Rams are now mixed with many countries parts. I’ll keep my Dodge till it dies. The order process for the new Ford has been exhausting. Ordered in Nov; had 4 delay emails now not due to be built till April. I order new because I get factory cost from my employer. I’ve been burnt on every used car I’ve bought. No TLC like I give them.
