I Vanished For 10 Days To Find Myself (Vipassana Experience) : Randomly Yours (by Piah)

Hellows Fellows,
I decided to vanish off from the face of the world for ten days and then reappeared out of nowhere.
Where did I go and what did I do?
Worry not, because I did not do anything shady during these ten days.
Instead I went off to the beautiful Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh to find myself.
Did I succeed in finding myself ?

IMPORTANT NOTE : Please remember, I am not a qualified Vipassana teacher so please watch this video just to get an idea about the retreat. The real teaching is going to happen during the 10 day course. Also the things that I learnt from the course is just my experience and everyone has different experiences from the course.

    wow! I could pretty much correlate my 10 days experience which I just finished 2 weeks back. I must say, my first 3 days at the course were excruciating painful and felt like running away. At the end of the 1st day, I asked my manager for the back support and I clearly said, if I won't get the back rest, I will have to leave. He said, please wait till 3rd day and everything will be normal, and o'boy it did !!!! Only 2-3%pain left..magic..!!! For those who are planning to go for the 10 days course, I strongly recommend you guys to start practicing sitting on the floor with a thin pillow\cushion for at least an hour a day for couple of weeks BEFORE your course, this will develop your core strength. It will reduce some back and joint pain issues. For some reason I kind of disagree with the dinner part. I mean they do give very nice wholesome breakfast and lunch but the gap between those 2 are just 5 hours and than you starve for the good 18+ hours. It affects your metabolism. I wish they had the lunch as a bit later time around 1-2pm or they should start providing mild vege soup with bread for the dinner. I just couldn't sleep many nights due to being hungry and it really doesn't go well with the next day's meditation. Also, you really don't want to overeat lunch as you feel bloated for the rest of the day where you still need to meditate. two weeks after the course, I am back to doing at least 1-2 hrs meditation at home. In the morning 5-6am and at night I start around 9.30 or 10pm and try to do as much as I can before resting. My first 5-10 minutes are Aana-Pan and rest is Vipassana.

    Thanks for sharing your experience. I actually lost sleep last night thinking about how I should control my reactive nature to improve situations around me. This video was like talking to a friend, who just read my mind.. I have been trying to meditate on a daily basis for so long now but fail to make a routine out of it coz my mind is that chaotic..do keep sharing your meditation experiences so someone like me can feel motivated :-)

    hello priya really great to hear you . i want to ask you that after that 10 days coarse are u still finding time for meditation, if yes how much will it be necessary to keep that flow ? bcoz those 10 hrs of meditation will not be possible after leaving that place.

    Priya just light banter, 1 of the important things is not to speak, were you able to do that for the entire duration of 10 days ;-), I have extreme self-doubts on whether I will be able to stay silent for that long or not.

    Hi Priya, thanks for the info. I am planning for a course soon. Would you help me know more about the Dharamshala centre? I need to know how is the accomodation arrangement for females. Do they have a single or twin sharing accomodation for women...attached or seperate washrooms. Also, do share a bit about the type of meals provided and the 5pm snacks(as I have some health issues). Would be great if you could help.

    Hi Priya, I have anxiety problem or High Bp, and Dr has told me to not join vipassana bcoz it's 10 hrs meditation practice and it could be harmful for you , shal I join it. Pls reply.

    Hi Amit, in my opinion, Vipassana is the best medicine for anxiety. I used to have anxiety problem 10 years ago. Vipassana greatly helped me to solve the issue. I have continued my Vipassana practice since then. My twin brother had depression problem since childhood. 8 years ago, he used to take anti-depressant pills; But after practicing Vipassana his depression problem went away and he stopped taking anti-depressant pills. Since then he has continued his Vipassana practice and has greatly benefitted from it and has been facing all his ups and downs of his life in a much better way. One of my friend has Schizophrenia. He took a Vipassana course and he is benefitting from it. Though his Schizophrenia has not gone away, as that is a deep disease. But am sure at one point of his life he will certainly come out of his Schizophrenia. Don't worry. Vipassana will greatly help you in your anxiety, high BP problem.     Hi Akash, Yes it will certainly help in your entrance exams. It will greatly help you to face and come out of all kinds of negativities in the mind - anxiety, fear, addictions, etc; In addition to that it will also improve the concentration of your mind; So naturally it will help you during your entrance exams preparations, as well as during the days you give your entrance exams. Even after you become a Doctor, it will help you so much to face difficulties that arises in the lives of every Doctor. The bigger benefit you get is that it will greatly help you to face all the ups and downs of your life with much more balanced mind and equanimity.
