Rellana has to be my absolute favorite boss in the DLC. I fought her with a Milady light greatsword with the Deflecting Hardtear. It basically turns the fight into a sword-clashing dance reminiscent of Sekiro and Lies of P. I also think she has the most well-designed moveset in the entire DLC. She has so jaw-dropping show-stopper moves that I can't help but be in awe. She's up there with Odin from GoWR as my favorite spellcasting bosses of all time

I don’t agree with a lot of your points, like you’ve played with one character so of course you can’t use every build in the game, I’ve played with upwards of 20 characters because I like trying new builds and experimenting to see how op I can get or to see if I can beat Melania at level 1. the not having a quest log is a big part of souls games and it’s what Miyazaki likes doing, and again it takes multiple play throughs to learn how to complete each quest. there aren’t any bosses that are too difficult, it all depends on your build or how long it takes to learn there move set if your build is weak to that enemy. The biggest problems I have with the game is the repetitive boss fights like you mention in the video, however that’s not a problem unless it’s your first play through because I just never come across them anymore unless I need a item from them. I understand why you don’t like the game as much as something like sekiro, but I enjoy it more because I feel I get more replay value because each time it’s using a completely different character but when replaying sekiro you’re just playing as sekiro every time(even though I still love sekiro).

I think the problem I still run into with what ur saying with the build thing is the fact that it takes so long to experience all that stuff, I don’t even like some of the other builds, and it doesn’t mitigate the issue of not having a lot of variety on hand, or the fact that you will have to waste so many resources and so much time to figure out all this stuff on ur own and I just don’t find doing that much fun. For the quest log thing I still don’t think that gives me much as a defense to what I said, because just showing the lines of dialogue doesn’t do anything to take away from the exploration or immersion experience. And for the bosses again I don’t think it’s fun to spend 3-4+ hours trying to figure out a boss fight or spend even longer changing ur build completely and stuff

  • @snazypantsgamer1393

And I’m just saying with the quest logs that I would have liked there to have been a quest log because I’ve spent HOURS trying to figure out everything on my own, but it’s just something that they will never put into there games because they have a formula which Miyazaki has chosen and likes.

There's a crystal tear that negates the damage you take from Mogh's Nihil (tbh I didn't know about this until like 1 or 2 months ago). And there is a talisman that let you see the black knife assassin. Yeah... a lot of Elden Rings problems come from the simple fact that a lot of the game design is built around old principles. Quest designs, the lack of a quest log, the lack of difficulty options, the lack of handholding. It's all something that fromsoftware has been designing around since demon's souls back in 2009. Most of the things just hasn't changed. Simply put not a lot of modern Triple A games do this anymore. No game dev has the balls to just hide shit from the play and have enough trust that the player can figure it out. There is a charm that some people like in that, but I am open for a fresh revamp of a lot of these things.

Being entirely honest with myself. I think that Elden Ring, while being the most impressive entry into Fromsoftwere's, lined up. Is not as good as a game as Sekiro and Bloodborne. I grew up with the Soulsborne series. The games scratched an itch on having something that was considered an achievement for beating them. Yet I think genuinely the best way to play these games is with friends. Especially for other series like Monster Hunter(which I think Wilds has a decent chance of GOTY if it turns out well next year)

Awesome that you gave the game another chance :) While I don't agree with everything you said, most of your points are totally understandable. I'd like to add some context tho: - A crystal tear prevents Mohg's Nihil Attack from damaging you almost entirely - At the entrance to Raya Lucaria, there's a map piece showing you the exact location of the glintstone key, you don't even need to kill the dragon - For camera problems: Don't always lock on to bosses, especially when they're above you. This is something the game should teach the player, but it removes all camera problems. - Sentry's Torch makes invisible black knife assassins visible. - You can jump or strafe many attacks, giving you way more openings than you might think for bosses like Rellana - Malenia's Waterfowl Dance: You simply run away from the first attack and jump or roll if she gets close. With a longer weapon, you can even get a hit in between the individual attacks. - Sidequests are designed in a way that you will find most NPCs again by just playing the game, very few ones can actually "fail". Many sidequests also have multiple endings. FromSoft isn't afraid of putting missable content in their games, and it's fine to not find everything on a first playthrough. Things like questlogs make games feel too "videogamey" and destroy the immersion. - Graces always show you where to go to progress the main story. It's impossible to get lost in this game. Fire Giant is trash.

Nihil does no actual damage, it only does like 999 blood loss buildup. So basically you get bled 3 times, and bleed only does % damage. Meaning you can actually survive Nihil with any amount of health and defense, it just makes you sacrifice 3 flasks. For the base game bosses you complain about, there are gimmicks to trivialize all of them. Invisible Black Knife can be seen if you equip the Sentry's Torch bought from a merchant in Altus. Nial's summons can be turned against him with bewitching branches. Godskins become a joke if you use any sleep item. Not to say they aren't bad bosses, because I don't like these item based gimmicks (especially since there's no hint that you CAN use these items). Rellana is kind of the ultimate culmination of FromSoft's insistance on having shitty tutorials. If you know how to use strafe dodges, jump dodges, and bait out specific attacks with good positioning, she is incredible. Makes you use your whole moveset and you can constantly be on the offensive. But I'd say 90% of players don't understand those mechanics because the game never explains them. On the issue of awful camera, I'm not going to say Astel's and Fire Giant's cameras aren't bad, because they are. But for Astel's overhead grab, there is a very clear sound queue you can use to tell if he teleported far away, or above you for the grab. Same thing with most of Fire Giant's hard to see attacks. You don't NEED to see what they're doing because the sound queues are very good. I would prefer a zoomed out camera like in Sekiro though. Tree Spirits are just ass even with sound queues. 100% agree on the issue with build variety. I really hope the next Miyazaki souls game focuses more on the action than the RPG parts. While I think the bosses or overall combat of Dark Souls 3 were inferior to Elden Ring, DS3 has it severly beat in terms of balance. I didn't have to constantly shoot myself in the foot to actually fight the bosses and not just kill them in 3 seconds because I'm overleveled. I'd rather have less options with bosses more carefully balanced around those fewer options. Completely agree with the quest log idea as well. Especially because a lot of time, when the NPCs do give directions, they tell you the name of a place you haven't been to yet, so it's very easy to forget it. Being able to easily review dialogue would also be great for lore hunters.

So just some things about the bosses that you had said were giving you no breathing room I purpose that instead of running away when the boss is not in an animation and chasing you to instead bait an attack like one of hoarah loux's grabs or one of the dancing lions flying attacks or phase transitions, really anything with long recovery. This allows you space to get a free heal in and is something that is almost necessary for some boss fights if you need to heal. Side note for water fowl/malenias move there are 2 ways to dodge it at minimum, 1 for up close and 1 for afar. For the up close one you should lock off malenia and run around her for a split second before dodging which screws her tracking up and makes her fly past you. For afar you should just up and run away for the first set of slashes then for both you roll through the second set and the lock back on and back away for the last set. Hope this helps because godfrey/hoarah loux is one of my favorite boss fights.

My general issue with ER was that it isn’t the greatest game aot like a lot of people say. I player the other souls games before and I genuinely think the base game of elden ring to steps back in certain areas. Bosses were plentiful but I didn’t find the majority of them spectacular or anything. It also kills me the amount of duo bosses, cramped room with shitty camera, and straight up shit designed bosses in the base game. Malenia might be my favorite boss from the base game but waterfoul dance is just hard for the sake of being hard. Sword saint ishin felt like a boss that tested your skills and grasp of the game. Malenia almost feels the same but the water foul dance has such a non obvious solution the requires walking/running into the boss to exploit her targeting. The open world imo is good but not great and the issue with all the souls games is the painful requirement of being thorough every waking second. It can get exhausting having to search every nook and read every description in the fear you’ll miss something vital. Overall it’s one of my favorite games but I dislike some of the glaring issues and glazing the game receives when unwarranted

Then I got to radahn and he clapped me over 200 times before I used mimic tear, once I changed my build up and used a thrusting sword with a shield it trivialized him. So I was curious how I would do against her on a second playthrough. I clapped those cheeks. There is a very clear meta for the dlc. Unfortunately it makes allot of other build opinions pointless.

Before even watching the video, I wanna say. I used to hate souls games in general. My first souls game was Bloodborne and I put it down after 9 hours or so, because, it was too hard. Plus, there wasn't much reward for the trial and error, so what would I even get in return except my own "satisfaction". I got Elden Ring Shadows of Erdtree Edition, because I was kinda curious on how an open-world Souls game would work. I got it, and I wouldn't say I love it. More like a love-hate relationship. It has the same difficulty as Bloodborne... Okay, maybe a bit less harder. But the game's not as punishing as Bloodborne. I'm about 25 or 26 hours in and am serving Rinna right now, and the journey there was pure mind-fuckery. For Margit, I had to use summons to beat him, and then Godrick, same thing. Then some others with summons, yate-yatayata. The point I'm trying to make in this rant is that the game is probably the best souls game to pick up as a first-timer. And don't let people tell ya that you're not a real gigachad if you use summons for bosses. The game developers put it in the game for a reason, to use it, so I am. Elden Ring wasn't really designed to be a solo game, they made the bosses with the mindset that you'd use summons or play with other players. And people sometimes don't have the mental strength to die 50 times on a boss before they get it right. Anyways, I like this game. 8/10.

When talking about adding a quest log I think the reason many people don’t like it is because they enjoy both the experience and community that not having a quest log in souls provides. Souls is not a multiplayer focused game but has at the same time always encouraged cooperation which fostered a very strong community. Not having a quest log has two pros and one con. The pros are that it really gives you the experience of exploring a world and figuring things out for yourself ( which is the experience intended by the game) without the need of the game to hold your hand. The other pro is that is strengthens the community. If you need help go to the forums or ask friends for help. I don’t think souls has the stigma about asking for help that a lot of other things have (besides the people who call you a bitch for summoning a player, which I used to do as a kid) and that extends to these quest lines. This has helped create the unique community behind souls since demons souls. The con is, you’re gonna google shit which some people don’t like to do. If you ad a quest log you don’t need to google things, but not only does it diminish the intended experience of figuring things out without the game holding your hand in any way, but it would also make the community less cooperative to some extent. Neither system is better or worse in all honesty, I think most souls players would rather keep that intended experience and community over not needing to use google as often so they hate the idea of this change. Personally I wouldn’t be overly upset if a quest log was implemented, but I do prefer it the way it is.

Also a few other notes: You can get to Mohg's palace by doing a much less convoluted quest than finding the portal, and the quest gives you very explicit instructions on how to complete it The girl is in the direct center of the path through the lake, pretty hard to miss Also at 18:35, you mention how you can't even find the person who gave you that dialogue. couple things i disagree with: "why would i use a dagger or claws when i'm getting my shit stomped in?" you can make a viable build for nearly any weapon in the game. I personally made an insane dps build with powerstanced daggers that was able to kill Mohg in 30 seconds on ng++. and claws are strong too. you just have to build your character the right way. "you cant do cool combos" as someone who plays pvp almost every day, this is not true at all. there are many cool combos you can pull off, whether they are melee only, spells only, or a mix of both. there are some things that not only look awesome, but are strong as hell and are very hard for even another player to avoid. but it's like you said: only playing through the game once, you probably wouldnt discover these things on your own. i have done hours of build crafting and experimentation. these things exist, it just takes skill and practice to use them properly

@@C0LIN. I can't give you something that has upwards of 20 things, and I am not referring to mods. I don't think that combos should require 20 different actions to be cool. Again, look up Elden Ring spell combos, or incantation combos. They usually consist of chaining multiple spells, incantations and/or melee attacks together in a combo that is either a true combo, or to set up for roll catches in pvp. Usually it's about a 3-4 hit combo, if not a bit more. It is a bit disingenuous to compare the type of combos you would be able to pull off in Elden Ring to other games, simply because it is a different gameplay style. But regardless, pulling off these combos allows for skill expression.

Dancing Lion is the worst boss? Sorry, but how? I will agree frame drops do make this boss, among others, worse. However, you never explain what makes the first phase "bullshit." Its attacks are choreographed extremely well, especially during first phase. Second phase has a few annoying quirks depending on the element, but it still isn't too bad. If the camera is the problem, that is completely your fault. I had issues with the camera in a few fights, but I figured out that better positioning and not depending on the lock-on mechanic basically makes it a non-issue. The fact you don't elaborate on any criticisms against the boss makes it seem like you had one bad experience with the boss and continue to hold a grudge against it (I say this because I have done this before lol). If the fight is truly that bad, please make a 4-hour video essay dissecting the fight just for somebody to say, "skill issue".

And running into multiple and complaining makes no sense. Did you complain about Skyrim? Then saying you can't switch to a new weapon because you can't see how it works or if it's better... Is a lie. These are a whole info page with stats and lore for literally every weapon in the game. Huge lie right there

Thank so so much for saying how bad the dancing loin fight is. You barely get anytime to attack and if you touch him you die
