I Used To Believe This Myth About Subaru Suspension Lifts...

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Suspension lifts are great. But do you believe that they'll give you way more suspension travel? Check out this demonstration to show where the sticking points can be.

It's the age-old debate between IFS and a solid front axle. When I was a salesperson at a CJDR store, at the launch of the JL Wrangler, FCA told us that a head designer recommended switching to IFS, and they were fired immediately from the project. It just doesn't allow for the easiest modification and limits overall travel. IFS does give one great advantage, and that is ride quality/stability. That is why we are offroading in Subarus. We can do awesome trails (more trails than most Wrangler owners who never go offroad), we can go drive around the canyons a little faster, and don't have to worry about death wobble going down the highway. Pucks/spacers are for sure the most affordable way to lift any vehicle and perfect for some that just wants to stuff a bigger tire under their vehicle. Mopar actually used to carry puck spacers for the Renegades and were shown off at SEMA. So don't feel bad about spending a little less on the suspension. Feel good about spending a little more on recovery, a nice wheel and tire combo, and/or skidplates.

@@TheMr.Logan9 friggin spot on!!! I'm so happy that there's still a good solid axle option on the market. Yeah they drive like piss on the road, but even in stock form there's no match for twin d44's when you hit the rocks😬 Subarus are so much more comfortable and reliable. But just have to be approached differently in many ways. And definitely! Spend that money on recovery gear and good tires.

The control arm will be the limit of down travel for sure. I've got a whole series of videos showing a significant increase in suspension travel with suspension versus spacer lifts measuring on the same car back to back. I've had 7 or 8 lifts on the car at this point. Ride quality definitely increases with a suspension lift for off road trails. Spacer lifts are fine for what they are. I have a Subaru with an 8" spacer lift. The oil pan is the same distance from the ground as factory. If that's what someone wants more power to them.

@@bruceyyyyy I think I've seen your SG before! Yes, you will definitely gain up travel. But I think the way that people envisioned a suspension lift on their Subaru is that it will turn it into some kind of Baja buggy or something 😅 While there's technically more up travel, every Subaru I've trailed with that's running LTC's has had only marginal gains in traction in the rocks or moguls etc. Has that also been your experience or is it a driver error thing? I think some people should consider a suspension lift. But the amount of negativity that I've been hearing lately towards spacer lifts is blown way out of proportion to the point where people who should realistically be running them are scared away from it for no reason.

@@bruceyyyyy no kidding?? How many acres? I live in a rural ag community. Definitely not easy work. It's crazy. I've even heard people say "I don't want to use a spacer lift. I want to upgrade to a suspension lift so it didn't hurt my axles." 😅 I have no idea where people are hearing this stuff. Do you have that green SG with bronze wheels or an I thinking of someone else?

I got a ‘21 base outback with an Ironman 4x4 kit(regular in the front, spec-c in the back, installed around 90k mile @ 113k now) it’s a little high in the back but levels out when weighted down. No other mods beside luxury as in tint and autostop eliminator
