Yes the Cranka Crab is what I expected to win from all of the reviews I've seen for best sheepshead crab lures. Problem is they're a bit of a pain in the arse to order and very expensive.

I agree, very expensive especially if you lose them lol
1st place goes to the Cranka Crab with the Berkley Gulp Sand Flea Crab placing second. I was most impressed with the action you were getting on the Cranka Crab! I also enjoyed the video and appreciate you doing this comparison test.

You should try the mussel vibe from outback breamer baits. It's a killer on the pilings.
For the money, I'll go with the sand flee although they anr not found around the merrimac river/beach in Massachusetts or New Hampshire

Great video, I have the same artificial crabs to try out, hadn't got around to trying them out but now that the sheepshead tournaments are coming up I'll have to try them out since all the baitshops run out of fiddlers pretty quickly. I have been using mussels and mud crabs instead and been pretty successful. #GetOutTheHouseGoFish

You should try those chase bait crabs, I’ve had really good luck with them for sheepshead but the con is they are really light and hard to keep in the strike zone with current. Those savage gear crabs have worked really well for me catching reds in the marshes. I’ve used them for sheepshead without any luck

The Wood Piddock (Matesia striata ) occurs in waterlogged timbers ranges from N. Carolina to Brazil. Also known as Shipworm or Pileworms. The Worm is probably a natural food for the Sheephead around the rotting wood pileings . The Oysters also can get worms boring into the shell.
@southernsalt

I think you’re probably right. I have seen oyster worms
Watching you fish that structure makes me want to make a trip up that way!! You get some monsters up there! Cranka Crab for the win! I also notice Savage gear has a small plastic tube on the tip of the hook that can easily be missed before using it!

Circle
Hook probably bent when it smacked the pylon first cast.
Well, you would have had 3 or 4 fish for the fryer. That's pretty good for a day. If you consider changing tides, differering times of days... I'd say the Cranka Crab wins but they all sure worked. Very Interesting. I'd like to see another vid just like this Same 3 lures but start with the 2 for $10.00, then Sandflea, then Cranka Crab. see if that changes things.

Absolutely man you never know how fast a feeding window can open and close or just hit the right spot at the right time. To get true results I need to run it several times in several locations so I definitely agree with you there. Thanks brother!

I think the kicker crabz are way too big, and are more of a swim bait. The crusteaz or TRD crawz would be more appropriate in my opinion, the zman buoyancy will make the claws stand up.
@southernsalt

First time hearing of a few of these. I’ll have to check them out.
Hard to say. You almost need to pick three days of similar conditions and rotate which one you start with first but this video would say the Cranka Crab. I’d like to see the Berkley Peeler Crab and the Savage Gear Crusty Crab tested too.
@southernsalt
Жыл бұрын
I agree that there are several variables and it needs to be ran several times. I plan on doing it again soon.
You may not have enough exposed hook. Try a 2/0. Octopus.
I think you should give it a half an hour between lures. because a lot can’t change in our tires can go high or low. A half an hour is better for allure.

It’s hard to compare multiple lures in one day when the tide can effect the fishing so majorly
@southernsalt
Жыл бұрын
I agree I need to run it several times to get a true understanding of which is better. The good thing is that in one way or another, they all can get a reaction and possibly land fish.
One hour in between changing lures may not be the best comparison. Maybe change every 15 mins Or if you have multiple rods try one for 5-7 minutes then switch to another. Just a thought

The Cranka Crab was one of my secret baits, you ruined it! Nah, but really its a really effective bait for sheepshead. I knew you would get hooked up with one if they were around. It really is the only one worth using and I have used many different ones, Got my limit many a time with one. The price is what it is, you want the best bait for the situation pony up the dough or go dig up fiddlers on your own. On a side note when you do the shrimp lure use a voodoo it works aight on sheepies.
