27:00 There are decades-old large-scale irrigation projects that gave fantastic results for relatively low negative impacts, like the dam on the Nile river ending the devastating droughts and opening up wide areas of land to agriculture. Of course since it's not in a videogame Terra Nullis, entire towns had to be evacuated in what is now Lake Nasser and sediment flow is significantly blocked. The much feared downstream banks erosion has been minimal, though. And at the opposite you have the Aral sea that vanished because the rivers feeding it are continually drained for crops. The North bassin is filling-up after being walled-off to stop it from just spilling into the dry southern bassin and evaporating in a yearly flood / drought cycle. Projects to dig a canal to refil it with sea water and produce electricity are extremely expensive, and have their own negative points. Not much concern for invasive species since the native ones went extinct when the salt killed almost everything as the Aral sea dried.

I played the demo... probably a lot more than most people. Love this game. It's got such a unique (and literal) tactical landscape to explore with the push and pull between industry to reclaim the wasteland and your ease of deconstructing it. Chefs kiss to the developers for wrapping it up in a package of super wholesome, good vibes.

@@wanderbotsjust so you know, the percentage on each zone goes only to 70% there’s a thing that is locked until more comes out AND it contributes to your restoration progress with 35% currently being the max, also this means that there are 4 Zones in the full release [1% of zone progress = 0.5% Restoration progress, 400% zone = 100% restoration progress] also I have enjoyed your videos for a long time, thanks.

The points are higher due to further structure separation. This makes sense, since the aim of the game is natural reclamation over mankind’s folly.

I also totally like the idea of bringing back life to wasteland and dead deserts maybe extent in some areas with re-population and monster hunting which is why I adored Dragon Quest Builders 1 and 2 so much. Sure there is also Minecraft but DQB looks better. It just would have been nice to have bigger areas to terraform more freely but maybe DQB 3, if it ever happens will satiate my hunger in that regard (not that I believe Square is going for it since they seem so hellbent on NFTs now with a trash game to sell em).

2:30 Not to minmax this chill game, but I think you're actually losing points on some of those water pumps. They do cost 50 each and they only convert one tile out from the water on each side (and I'm pretty sure water itself isn't worth points, only green). So you need them to reach 25 tiles length of new water to be positive. I think they're definitely worth it with an elevation bonus, slightly worth it if they're getting full range in both directions, and not worth it otherwise.
