@@travisschulz6342 You store garlic in a jar like that and buy it from the store like that, it loses both flavor and freshness and the little 'bite' that it has while fresh. It becomes blander and takes on a different sort of flavor that isn't always what you want, and you need MORE of it to get the same effect as you'd get normally.

I disagree. I am from the midwest and NONE our family dollar or dollar tree stores have fresh produce, milk, eggs, etc. LA dollar stores are completely different, and he is still showing unattainable. The only time I ever see these challenges are from influencers that live in LA. Can you get quite a few things from the dollar store? of course. But this image that influencers create is harmful because it allows people to believe that across the nation "people aren't starving they're just too picky to go to the dollar store". It's a really harmful narrative and its only one facet of the problem.

Your (but cheaper) videos have actually been really helping my in household. Thank you so much for helping those of us who don’t really have money to waste on failed attempts at recipes. I love cooking, but I really don’t get to experiment as much as I would like. I can’t afford to have something turned out so bad it’s inedible. I know if it’s something you’re cooking it’s always going to turn out good. Salt Lake City, the big box stores like Albertsons and Fresh Market were key. San Diego, dry goods were better from the 99 cent store, where meat was cheaper at big box stores and produce was hit or miss everywhere. Portland, OR and meat is sometimes cheaper at Halal markets, Winco or Walmart and produce is always cheaper at farmers markets and organic outlets. Orange juice from concentrate is arguably better than orange juice sold 'not from concentrate'. Concentrated juice is stored by removing the water, and freezing it. Turning it back into juice just requires water. But 'not from concentrate' juice is stored by removing oxygen, which also removes all flavor. In order to bring that flavor back, 'flavor packs' are added; the flavor packs are not listed as ingredients because the chemical compounds they use, such as ethyl butyrate or valencine, are derived from 'natural' orange byproducts like the peels and leaves.

Honestly what I like about this kind of video is this. I see a lot of videos of "omg we're making the most expensive [whatever] ever!!!!" and I'm like, sure, go flex your subscribers and money, noone is ever going to make that or be able to afford to. We're in the middle of a massive recession and we've been there since 2007... but making stuff like But Cheaper and showing how to make good food with cheap ingredients and little equipment is just nicer.

If you want another challange, you could try figuring out ways to cook good meals for someone with severe and diverse food allergies. It's impressive how this chef was able to create a three-course meal using only ingredients from a dollar store. It's funny how he mentioned that everything was 1.25 dollars, and he joked about getting trash bags instead of regular bags. It's also interesting how he found ways to use the frozen and canned foods available, like using canned peaches instead of fresh pineapple. As a chef, I think it's a great challenge to be creative with limited resources, and it's always satisfying to impress someone with what you can make out of something unexpected. Regarding the "Turned Dollar Store Food Gourmet" video, it's fascinating how the chef transformed inexpensive ingredients into gourmet dishes. It's amazing how he was able to turn instant ramen into an amuse-bouche and country style ribs into a fancy-looking entree. It just goes to show that with creativity and skill, you can turn any ingredient into something special. The video also shows that you don't need expensive ingredients to make a delicious meal, as long as you know how to work with what you have.
