when there are long straightaways like this track, it's vitally important to get on the gas as quickly as possible and minimize wheel spin in order to get ahead of the speed curve. our boy steve still brakes a tad too late so he's at maximum traction all the way around the corner until he straightens out at the opposite curb. if he'd brake a tad sooner his tires would be under maximum traction, so he'd have some extra grip to use to accelerate out of the corner as soon as he rounds the apex instead of waiting to straighten out. you can hear his tires squealing all they way around the corner whereas in the replay the faster car isn't.

It's the same with this , you have to see Barry R so many times before a perfect apex, and it all boils down to how many hours are you ready to invest into it. You're a humble dude, always showing the grind in its ups and lows, and this is true value content to inspire us to learn how to improve. Cheers

Speaking from the experience of doing well over 100 laps of the Nordshliefe in a (stock) GT86 trying to set decent time-trial laps: Even if you throw the lap super early in, you should always complete the rest of it, because otherwise you start getting weaker and weaker on your ability to do, for example, sector 3, while your pace (and consistency) in S1 (& S2) gets better and better, which ends up resulting in you dreading (and often going slower than much earlier runs in) sector 3 and often bottling it there too. It means you end up spending a lot of time trying to go fast on laps that won't be worth anything, but it does mean that when you get a solid first half of a lap there's significantly less chance of you throwing a good lap because you lack the same level of experience of doing the other half of the lap.

I definitely noticed this at that track too. Its incredible length makes the effect way more pronounced. There were times where I had 2/3 of the track down pat and was completely useless at the end, which is a shame because that's the funnest section. Nowadays I've learned my lesson and always keep going if I make a mistake.

As a casual race simmer, I have to say, this is *very, very true*. I actually noticed it moreso years and years back, when I was playing more arcadey games, where I'd just be going for first-place against AI, and eventually I'd restart the race so many times that I'd ABSOLUTELY MURDER the first half and then struggle with the second. That last 1/4 of each and every track that didn't have multiple laps was always insane, seat-of-my-pants chaos.

I'll give you 2 secrets. 1 be smooth stop yanking on the wheel. smooth is fast, looks slow but your actually faster. 2. when you screw up big time, stop take a break, lets your nerves settle down and adrenaline drops. then go again. you find your times come down at a faster rate, and your speed and smoothness quicker. it' automatic. we taught RC Racers this way , and they became a lot faster real quickly.
