If you're ever looking for trying more south Indian food, here are some recommendations: 1) My favourite is Vada. It's like a fried savoury donut (you can find small ones but bagel size is more satisfying) which you typically find alongside idli 2) Another version of idli is the Rava idli. I don't know how to explain Rava, but it's a different batter and it gives more taste and texture to the idli. They also usually add small peanuts and mustard seeds to add more flavour. It's still not too. overpowering and a great vessel for chutney and sambar. They also make Rava dosa 3) South India is known for it's seafood. Things like goan fish head curry, masala prawns, masala crab. I can't remember them that properly right now but I'll update this soon. Maybe the comments could help me 4) Akki Roti or Roti made of rice flower. It's not my favorite but I enjoy the texture of it with South Indian food

@@LisaNguyen as you try more Indian food, and you are considering more 'eating with the hand' techniques, this is a tip I gave an Australian friend that worked really well - the claw & lever. When you pick up food, put your 4 fingers around the food (thumb facing you, and all fingers facing away) and close them, so the ends of your fingers form a V- shape, then use the your thumb to push food into the V (the claw) and scoop it up towards you. Bring the scoop to your mouth, and for semi dry foods like breads & gravies this works well. If it's a gloopy food like rice, you basically retract your thumb back like like a bowstring and then use the nail of your thumb to push the food from the scoop into your mouth (the lever). While you might find it a bit weird at first, it's totally normal in India. And with broths/sambars/rasams in rice, you don't really get the right ratio of rice to liquid unless you eat by hand We did finger-lickin way before KFC 🤣

Finally, I went to Saravana Bhavan and ordered Idli. It was the best thing I've ever had, I am not exxagerating. I ordered like 5 extra idlis and a plate of Poori and finished it in a single sitting.

Y’all let me tell you, tech listening in on you is real! Lol I literally had Indian food for the first time today! I have been raving ever since! Omgggggg!!! Had NO idea it was my favorite food, until I did. Growing up in the south of the US we eat gravy dishes, they have always been my idea of a perfect meal! Throw in my obsession for tomatoes on everything, onions, peppers, herbs, coconut, my God. Literally everything I love about food, rice you name it! I’m obsessed with the onion tomato chutney, the one I hade was chunky though and omg….just omg! Can you tell how thankful I am! I thought I was cheated, but God knows best, he knew I would have been out of control eating this cuisine coming up. Lawd! I can’t wait to go back tomorrow to get some more! Just so good! So good! Bless you all love from Alabama! Yes, they have amazing Indian spots here! So happy to be able to experience the Indian culture through food! 🇺🇸🤍🙏🏾💐

I really recommend you to have them, it tastes really good as a side dish coz it can be a bit strong to eat on its own. I think the most famous ones are mango pickle, lemon and chilli pickle, and in nonveg I personally prefer chicken pickle but others are tasty too😄

To get the real taste of south indian foods, you need to try out our lunch menu or occasion menu. Unlike North Indians, we frequently add non-veg in our diet and we like to eat really spicy. Next time, try our meals too😊

Hope you get to try more South Indian food. And the cutney you couldn’t name is made using peanut and shredded coconut.
