I Tried Singapore’s Most Unique Food
I dive deep into one of Singapore's most unique cuisines, Mee Goreng. There are many variations to this cuisine and I try Chinese, Malay, and Indian versions, highlighting the differences and discovering why this same cuisine is presented differently across different cultures.

I’m a Malay in my 50s. Our generation been eating rice with mee goreng since our kampong days. It’s a simple dish but tasty. FYI, many in Indonesia also eat fried noodles with rice.

Indeed, it has very crunchy bits of mutton bits and that special sweetness from the red sauce and the cucumber and potatoes bits. The other two taste like any home style fried noodles

As a Malay, it's quite common to eat mee goreng with rice especially among the older generation.
This country is not only a fusion of cultures but also food. You can literally eat till you drop.

As a Malay, I have always eaten the Malay Mee goreng when my mum cooked it with rice. So it no offense. Hehehe
I always wanted Indian style bee hoon goreng. Same taste, but the slim tiny bee hoon will change the dynamic inside the mouth. I am glad I grew up in SG
Mutton mee goreng? Book me on the next flight to Singapore!

Welcome Back. So nice topics. 👍🌷💙🤍
Deen is even more famous for the Tulang Merah. You should try that.
I love mee goreng .. Indian style with ketchup, chilli .. Must have pieces of mutton , potato, beansprouts, chye sim or cabbage. Have tried cooking 😊 Nowadays few stalls sell with all the above.
A few other different cuisine adapted by 3 cultures...nasi goreng and rojak.
Indian style with bee Hoon is the best for me! Especially with the cucumbers and tomato sauce on top woooo. And my Malay family has been eating mee goreng with rice for decades since before I was born. In addition to helping cut down spice, it also helps sustain the serving so we can share with more people!
I'm still young but usually we malays eat mee goreng with the authentic Nasi Ambeng. And sometimes I do eat leftover Mee Goreng with Rice and other dishes
As a chinese, i still prefer indian mee goreng the best
Good video. Interesting to combine all versions.
Fazli has that indescribable cheerfulness that any KZread video needs. Keep it up!
Traditional Chinese used Cast Iron Wok at their hawker stall for good heat retention, Wok Hei and on a long-term energy saving.

Singaporean Chinese here. I love the versions cooked by seafood restaurant Kheng Luck (closed in 1980s), Jumbo seafood, etc. Whenever I eat mee goreng, it brings back fond memories.
It's common among Filipinos to eat instant noodles or fried noodles with rice/bread...

When I went to Japan past month, first time saw the fried-mee with bread in their supermarket. Amazed that carbs mixed with carbs can be made into a dish/side.
Indian style is clearly more different, while the chinese and malay style are very similar. The minor difference between chinese and malay style is mainly attributed to the use of pork lard and halal ingredients, etc. Personally, i prefer chinese style which uses pork lard which adds flavor but there are many indian and malay mee goreng which tastes very nice even without the pork lard.
Next time U try Fried Rice, also have Chinese, Malay and Indian version.
Yes agree..love mee goreng
Love Indian mee goreng!! MUST be red else won't pass!!! Wanna go buy n eat now!!
A secret… the louder they fry the noodle the nicer it is… maybe because part of the wok is in the noodle 😂
バリ島の料理のレストランでミーゴレン食べて好きになりました✨焼きそばみたいな色で辛くなかったからそういう物だと思ってたら、麺の長さも、色も、辛さも色々なのがあるんですねー!

Lovely video! You forgot to include the mee goreng puteh, which is the pale "white" version with no red sauces at all! Very delicious when they throw in ikan bilis into the mix!
Thank you for sharing with us. Now I know the differences.
Ooo I love all the three styles of goreng❤,haha😂this video with fazil is so happy. He is so lively and the expression he shows when eating with rice. Thanks fazil.😊
Fazil has a lotta charisma u gotta bring it back

A good secret combo is to mix Malay mee goreng with the mee siam with gravy. - flavour unlocked.

Don't worry bro, our house mee goreng is so flavorful that we too eat them with rice lol! Nothing offensive with it.
I like Chinese style mee goreng best cos that was the version I craved for the most when I was studying overseas .
Mamak is sort of a slang for indian bro; Mamak shop (Indian convenience store), mamak food (Indian hawker food). As for the malay style mee goreng, it’s actually quite common to eat with rice and other dishes. If u go to a proper nasi ambeng store, u should see it as part of the side dishes. Loving ur videos bro!
When I was young, back in the 90s, I was addicted to the 7-11 Mee Goreng. Hahahah. Hilarious.
As a Malay, I eat my Mum’s Mee Goreng with rice! Mamak Mee Goreng too!
Mie goreng with rice? We do that in Indonesia!
Wow. This mee goreng making me hungry ❤
Yeah the Malay style Mee Goreng is almost always something to have at breakfast, favorite addons are always tempeh and soy sauce egg. I also first time see freshly cooked Malay Mee Goreng like the Indian style one.
Our family also eat Mee Goreng with rice
I hv not eaten mee goreng for a while as I find it too rich (feel jelat after eating). After watching yr video, i hv craving for the Malay version. You gave me the idea to eat with rice to reduce the richness. Same for Cha Kuay Teow. Thanks!

Yeah the rice combo is magical! 😆
my go to is mee meehoon goreng. just love the mix of textures of the thick mee with the finer beehoon. also, on rice, you should try having char kway teow with chicken rice! 😁
Deen Tiga Rasa gotta be my fav place to get Sup Tulang
Mee Siam and Rojak are a couple dishes I can remember that are/were represented by all three race. Love Indian versions of all three the best even though I’m Chinese.
Of all the Chinese fried noodles sellers available, you had to choose Xin wang!? This guy’s cooking skills are sub par!
I'm half expecting the first guy with broccoli hair gonna rate his fave mee goreng as bussin, og, no cap.
Common for my family to eat mee goreng with rice.
Some mamak stores fry Indomee mi goreng also very sedap
Indian & Malay Chefs used Cast Iron Wok for good quality cooking for an excellent heat retention and an energy saving overall.
The difference between the 3 is that only the Chinese does the wok toss to get the full WokHey. Overall all 3 is really a fusion of Singapore's melting pot of culture.
I used to eat ee mee with bread before i knew yakisoba was even a thing
Ojisan, you must try eating char kway teow with chicken rice..go to outram char kway teow at Chinatown (long queue) then buy chicken rice few stall down

Mr Ghib, The Chinese mee goreng boss said “Zhan” which means😢 “ichiban” in Japanese
fried noodle + rice is the essence.
fazli is very sporty ! 😆 very nice guest
9:02 I've been eating it with rice sometimes since young. Even the mamak ones. It's good. The rice dims the flavor bt in a pleasant way.
I'm not sure the malay style would actually taste the same as how malay aunties cook at home but you can easily find malay mee goreng pre packed at most malay stalls even at neighbourhood area around bukit gombak. Anyways, every mee goreng taste different and even the Indian ones you need to find a famous stall because some stall sell their mee goreng mamak not nice. I prefer the mee goreng mamak at beach road, haig road and boon lay shopping centre. Other places I try not so nice. Also, the restaurant Victory sell very nice fish briyani and crispy mutton murtabak. I always buy there. My favourite Indian food is actually at Banana Leaf Apollo. Their fish head curry, fish cutlet, mutton curry all so yummy!
In the Philippines, I used to eat pancit (noodles) and bihon with rice or with sand which bread or pandesal…
I didn't even know there's a Chinese mee goreng. 🤣. But prefer the Indian style. Normally buy from Ayer Rajah HC.
Wah, now I wanna to eat mee goreng, despite having a sore throat 😅

Try Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) next. A lot of different versions also from CMI (Chinese, Malay, Indian).
Fazli looks like he has mee goreng on his head
Wow all amazing, so its sort of the same as a chowmein? The ingredients apart from the sambal is from my learning. Have you had the Indian chilli chicken hakka noodles? I was told they came from Kolkata when the Chinese immigrants came. Also, which has surprised my Chinese takeaway and market friends is that the same or similar is also very popular in Nepal. But there you would get Buffalo chowmin as well done more like a usual Chinese chowmein. The sauce for these Indian and Nepali noodle dishes is based around, some green chillis, tomato ketchup or a sauce, soy sauce or dark soy, salt, chilli powder and sometimes sugar. See, like i keep saying Asia is amazing and such a mix. The food that comes out of there should bring the world together in unity.

Don't know about others but to me Maggie Goreng is the truth yo.

I grew up eating char kway teow with rice…..yummzz 😋
The Indian stall near my home sells Mee Goreng using instant noodles 🤮 Luckily closed down recently . Hopefully new stall is more authentic .
So nice. I would like to try
I vote malay style. Mamak style make my home chopsticks red and cannot be washed off. 😂
im malay and I always eat the mee with rice. there is a version of mee goreng which is black, i guess its with soya sauce
Nearby beach road have the Nan Hua Chong. Their mee goreng not bad.
Do Rojak next, Indian, Chinese, and Malay (got 2 types - tahu goreng and gado gado)
I love yakisoba pan, i got it at iroha mart at plaza singapura
Looks like I am the only one still holding out and eating Satay Bee Hoon. Still eating it after 40+ years
Try mee hoon goreng. Is another level. Very nice
So funny eating with rice. It reminds me because I’m Japanese American we used to eat “hamburger helper” which is like a pasta mix that you add ground beef too but the flavor is strong. So we would eat it with rice…so carb on carb too, lol.
I just came back from Singapore a few weeks ago and my wife and i fell in love with the country. I just made some pseudo kaya toast this morning with a matcha spread. Would we get slapped? :D
