Buying/downloading files is not future Barry, it's actually present day. Sites like Thingivese, Cults3d and MyMiniFactory are essentialy the plaforms for that. There are already food safe plasctics on the market such as PET and PP, the only problem to making the prints food safe is mostly in the crevices between the layers. And 3D printers became relatively cheap in the past years and are a very useful and fun hobby to have. I currently have 3 of them and we use them a lot to make some useful things or to fix stuff. By the way the KitchenCube IS BakerCube after their kickstarter campign went through.

@@jexom Easiest way is to add a food safe coating on the outside of the print. Or print a mold negative and then cast a mold in a food safe material.

i got myself a 3d printer last year. its been so useful. Cant still take a lot of time to get a perfect print. Most of my first prints were upgrades for the printe ritself :P but the ability to design and print things should definitely be in everyones homes. You planning on getting ones yourself barry? I can recommend the ender 3 v2 as a good low cost option thats good quality asnd can produce good results if you dont want to spend crazy money. its also a great skill for kids to learn. learn some skills maintaining a machine, learning how to design 3d things, lots of maths involved.

Great idea!

The toast tongs should have been used on the length of the bread, so you don’t have to stick the tongs inside the toaster sides to grab it.

Just to reiterate: Not all plastics are inherently food safe and can leach out bad stuff, especially into wet foods. Also, 3D printed items unless sanded and sealed properly are full of crevices and crannies for bacteria to hide and breed. Of course, not all plastics are safe for the dishwasher either. Make sure to read up on food safety before using any random 3D printed items.

Odds on these were printed in PLA which is safe... But food getting stuck in the layer lines and going off is still valid. Most of these kinda things and cookie cutters should be a 1 time use if you 3D print them as you can't properly clean between the layer lines.

lol the 1st one you broke (that was for toast) - it is for jinger-ly grabbing the WIDE sides of the toast not the thin top/bottoms

Why show it if it's half the size it's supposed to be... or go find tiny tacos and make it work... KZread frustrates me when I see people with almost a million followers but their content is garbage

@@seckora He didn't do it on purpose. Most of the times he gets things correctly, listens to his audience and corrects himself. An honest, humble and empathetic,creative youtuber who is learning and trying out stuff is much more entertaining to me. :) If you look for proffessionals doing their skills, maybe look for other youtube channels. But please feel free and welcome to stay, maybe you'll change your mind with his other (food related) content?

Haha yep! Reminds me of that vid where he uses the gadget to reheat a slice of pizza...but had it UPSIDE down so the pizza went soggy lol

The toast extractor looks like it grabs the "edge" or crust on the bread to pull it out of the toaster

Thoroughly recommend the Prusa Printers video on printing food safe items, it has more info about the right materials and the best ways to stay safe.

Spin the 2 water bottles and make a tornado. Had something similar in science in school.

Yeah, 3D printing is pretty cool! I studied medical genetics at university and it's possible nowadays to do 'bioprinting', which is using the same technique to 'print' tissue. (obviously in addition to things like growth factors and stuff to get it to imitate living tissue). It's used a lot for testing drugs etc at the moment which is pretty cool. So maybe one day organs can be 'printed' for transplants!

I was thinking he'd make a really fun funnel or water balloon filler.

My dad bought a 3D printer I think over a year ago to print parts and models to make my parent's flat 'smart'. He loves it and it is in constant use.

3D printers will be very soon in every house..they are as cheap as normal printers nowadays..the filament isnt expensive..easy to use..tousands of uses. Supports for DIY shelves, decor, missing parts like the back of a tv remote or a button...endless posibillitys. Proud owner of a modded Ender 3 Pro..love it.

At work we urgently needed a mount for a GoPro, but it would have taken a week to arrive, so we found one on thingiverse, 3d printed it and had it within a few hours. Magic.

I wouldn't trust those pigeons, Barry. They look like they're planning some form of terrible vengeance upon you.

Hello, Barry and fam (and doggos)! You're the highlight of my day when I have a min to catch your vids. Keep being awesome!

I would love to see a follow-up video. I used to work at a 3D printing company and watching that technology develop was amazing.

An aspect of 3d printed stuff is that you can resize/reshape within the limits of the printer, this lets you make stuff for people with special needs or even just for kids.

You actually are a teacher. How to and hot to not do things. You are one of the food channels I watch because I can actually learn stuff about cooking. That's why I love this channel.

That water hourglass connector thing minus the internal section could be super-useful to connect two bottles when you need to use one as a funnel. We mix forest berries with sugar and store them in bottles. Regular funnels always get stuck with berries, so we just cellotape two bottles together and it gets super-messy.

Also when I was in school, we used to tape 2 bottles together and then you shake it a certain way while liquid is pouring down to get a 'tornado in a bottle' with the liquid draining in. That is what I thought of the timer with the bottle

You can use that water timer with 2L bottles, give the top one a good swirl and you get a water tornado! Had one when I was younger, super fun!

the problem wit 3d printing everything that is a lot of plastic being used only once because once your done doing something you cant melt it down and reuse it.

This thankfully is no longer the case! It's still not faesible to do at home (you can buy home kits for this but theyre expensive still) but you can send your offcuts away to be re-made into filament.

I've had 3D printer for a few years and use it a lot. I've made a custom cutlery drawer insert (my drawers are a funny size), Dalek beer holder, various food processor blade holders, jubbly holders, can stackers & other stuff. Wouldn't use it for things that come into contact with food (like a chopping board). Love my 3D printer.

The best thing I've seen - one of the first guys to develop this technology said he realized how useful this could be when he moved into a new apartment and realized he didn't have any of those plastic rings for hanging his shower curtain. Instead of having to run out to the hardware store, he just printed a couple of rings to tide him over.

Oh i have that same elephant drainer, tho i use it for the sponges on the back of the sink! works well to keep them up on their ends and the water drains out and lets them dry :D

I took a class in college on how to 3D print and I’ve made a car, and a pitbull. I took a picture of my dog sitting and designed it from that. It was so hard at first but so cool. The one we had in class was like a 10,000$ printer. We could really make anything. But you can get them cheaper. I’m saving to get one bc it was so much fun.

For me, the best gadget is the egg separator. One thing I hate is the watery part of the white that makes a mess in the water when I poach eggs direct! Using your separator as just a strainer gets rid of the watery part, and the egg/s can cook easily without the ‘soup’! Nice one, guys!

Full size houses have been 3d printed. Small 3d printers can be bought for a few hundred pounds. Use a knife with a rounded tip to leverage the lid under one of the lugs that grip underneath the glass rim until it pops. Put sand in the timer and see how long it takes to run through. That cutlery drainer looks like a white elephant to me. 😜

The timer gadget could also be used to get the last bit of condiment or liquid soap out of a nearly empty container into a new one. This way you get the most out of your purchase and less waste. You have to leave it attached overnight to get all of the product/solution out (via gravity). I have a version of this I got via mail order about 50 years ago involving a small funnel attached to two spring clamps. Eventually the springs or plastic will break, but for now they still work.

That was an interesting video also it was very nice of that person to send you all those goodies. Thanks for the giggles.

My husband is very techy (is that a word?) and has had a 3D printer for a couple years now (Christmas gift from me) and his best creation so far is making a Star Wars themed chess set - that one came out so detailed and amazing! He’s gotten pretty crafty with it, amazing what you can print! Def recommend you investing in one...I do recommend getting the filament already on spools-it’s a pita to wind on yourself!

Barry, back in the late 80s early 90s they actually used to sell something similar to the 3d printed coupler you showed in toy stores as a "science toy". I think it was called a tornado in a bottle. What you would do is connect two bottles the same way you did, but as you flipped it you would give the bottles a little "spin" to start the water moving in a circular direction around the upper bottle. The motion would cause the water to drain in a whirlpool through the hole in the middle of the coupler

Nice! 2 of my hobbies in 1 video. Wish the prints where better quality tho, but happy that some worked.

It's like they say; if all you have is a 3D printer, everything will end up made of brightly colored plastic.

One of the more intriguing uses for 3D printed stuff that I heard about was to create emergency housing. I never heard if it worked out though.

Some of these are so cute. But I think with the elephant drainer I would use it to drizzle chocolate over some ice cream or such, all it needs us a little tip to keep the chocolate in till ready. Just my thoughts when Barry asked if we had figured it out.

I made your cook along Easter biscuits live with a 3D printed rabbit cookie cutter because I didn't have time to order one! Worked pretty darn well! 😊

Three dimensional but also vertical as well? What a revolution!

I couldn't wait 15 years so I bought a 3D printer last year use it all the time. There are flexible filaments as there are stronger Filaments such as Nylon or Acrylic. The plastic is heated to 200 deg C + to melt it so it will be sterile as it prints. The same may not be true for the bed of your printer (especially if you print in your garage like I do)

Time to start printing some of these and use something a bit more durable, then maybe get them sent to you for a part two!

Seeing how brittle these are I think they were printed in PLA, a plant based filament. It works great for figures and such but not with parts that have withstand a lot of force. The ones that broke would probably be more durable in ABS or PETG, which are oil based filaments.

i can confirm this is correct. The printer i used at the time (a flashforge finder) could only use PLA, but i figured this waas appropriate for single-use stuff anyway, as well as the biodegradeability. To be fair, the jar opener i tested a few times before i sent it off and it seemed much sturdier.....i guess Barry is just secretly ripped. I'll be putting up a post soon explaining a few of the details that keep popping up, so anyone reading this keep an eye out for that coming or feel free to hit me up on twitter if you want to ask anything directly.

An engineer i worked with 3D printed a biscuit cutter for the guy that cleaned the office who was famous for his biscuits. U know the cutter, its the one that has the donut hole twist in section so it doubles to cut out donuts. Eh, it worked but mostly it looked neat....you really need that thin metal edge that just crimps and cuts the biscuits. I predicted the dough would be a bear to get out of the little 3D printed lines in the cutter and it was. It wasnt horrible but also felt it was just hard to get really clean. My engineer had build his own 3D printer using Makerbot plans....he even made wooden gears to get it started until he could print plastic gears and use those...the device was a reverse cannibal, printing out its own working bits, how cool is that!

When most people get on roll they keep going , when Barry is on roll he makes sandwiches 🥪

As soon as 3d printing became a thing (about 12 years ago?) I immediately imagined a day when we'd be able to just go to a little built-in printer in our home, whenever we needed something like a replacement Tupperware lid or spatula, or whatever...pull up a pattern from a database, and order one. In my mind, it's going to be the first step towards all of us having replicators, like in Star Trek.

PLA can be bought in a version that can be annealed, which will make it less brittle.

I actually thought that measuring cube was 3d printed the first time it was in your videos, since I saw it on thingiverse, about 15 years ago when I first thought of getting a 3d printer, but I was like 10 then and printers where really expensive back then

The thing about 3D printers is that the filament is quite brittle, so anything printed thinly or with small bits is likely to break. I imagine it'll be something like the computer, after years (even decades) of perfecting the printers and the filament it will eventually become more valuable to have one.

Of all the things done incorrectly in this video, you focus on that? You do realize that not all fridges are made the same and some will have shorter distances between shelves than others right? Meaning you can't always stand cans in an upright position at all times. Furthermore, that was also about the only gadget in this video, besides the credit card knife/fork that actually worked and did what it was supposed to.

What hurts worst is he put a picture of how its actually supposed to be used right next to him breaking the toast extractor and its just barry, barry it hurts lol like obviously i assume he knows now but it still hurts so much lol

I was in an engineering class, and we had end of year-projects, and one of the students in my teacher's other class period made a 3D printer that used a hot glue gun as the printer head and instead of actual glue sticks, he made basically simple syrup candy sticks, and he could print very pretty candy constructs. Though after a while, the glue gun head got too hot and the candy started to burn. But it was just a prototype. And I know 3D printed chocolate is a thing.

Isn't there some talk already about possible technology to be able to 3D print human organs in the near-ish future?

There is a really good Netflix documentary about 3D printers and open/shared source called Print the Legend. Highly recommend.

That failed citrus juicer could still be used, just by sitting it over a small jug. It might be a little unstable, because it wouldn't have anything to secure it like the properly printed one, but theoretically usable, I think.

I love the videos, truly do but you massively overestimate how many people want random barry lewis things. I do share your vision for the future, it's going to be a thing of beauty.

Looks like a lot/all of them were printed in PLA, which is the easiest and most common material to print with but it's also the weakest. If some of these, like the jar opener, were printed in a different filament then i'm sure it would hold up a lot better and for the toast extractor it looks like the guys printer needs a bit more calibration as looks like the two prongs were meant to hinge but his printer printed parts too close and they fused together.

I think Barry cookie cutters would be a nice merch idea as well : D

I definitely got a 3d printer, ender 6 and ender 5 plus :D I think everyone should have one o.o They're so useful!

The cookie cutter and chocolate stampy thingy, applying draft (or a taper) to the faces of the part is critical to improving the release of the DOH! (dough). Without it, parts run the risk of poor cosmetic finishes :) OFC the stickiness of the dough does not help either :) Do not use the 3D printed parts with hot items, the melding point of PLA is from about 170 degrees Celsius... not leave it near the oven.... or you are left with a puddle of colored goop... also do not pick that up until it's solid again or your picking up hot lava. :P scraping is out of the question too as small plastic parts might loosen and end up in your food.

The egg device already exists. You are supposed to lift it off the edge and give it a wiggle. It is done in seconds.

3.39 - That's user error - You kept going until it broke. The vacuum seal had already been lifted, but you just kept applying force.

Same with the bread tweezers or whatever, I mean does that seriously look like an item thats meant to pinch all the way together? Because I don't see a hinge or a spring or anything on it, just hard rigid plastic, not meant to be bent.

Those were some pretty cool beginning stage items! I do have one question. What would stop you from just putting the bamboo skewers into your hand and doing the same thing without the little plastic bit? Would it work the same I wonder?

i thought this when i made it, and i learned the hard way that having six bamboo skewers all with their pointy ends aimed at the palm of your hand isnt a great idea, especially when that hand is about to move at high speeds.
