I Tried Knitting a Vintage Swedish Bonnet - Here's How It Turned Out!

Welcome to my channel and my adventures with this Vintage Swedish Bonnet!
Today’s knit is a Swedish knitted bonnet “from Grandma's time”. I found it online from a Swedish blog post from 2011.
I have no idea how old the newspaper clipping is but for some reason, I had it in my head that it was 1980’s perhaps.
I think it was because of the yarn recommendation but who knows anymore!
These types of bonnets (aka Dutch bonnets) were quite popular in the 1930’s and 1940’s so naturally, I had to give it a go!

sometimes it's great to challenge yourself to do something new - I have finally finished my dalloway jumper by Susan Crawford which is the first time I have knitted top down. The bonnet looks great!

Very cute! I am tempted to make the bonnet. Maybe you could have a go at writing the pattern in English just the way you made it? Love your fox sweater too...

Thanks :) I think honestly, it would make way more sense if a Swedish person wrote it up in English. I just winged a lot of it. Swedish speakers have easily spotted where I didn't understand something because it's easy for them to translate it. Poor Google translate struggled haha but there's also vintage Dutch bonnets online you could certainly try :)

Thanks 😊 Awe that's a shame. I think they were probably more 30s and 40s.. and maybe the early 50s. Then the big hair do's came in and these hats would have certainly destroyed them 😂

@@emilykatemadethis It was fun to see the 50"s hat patterns though. Especially the one with the large sequins all over the hat (sequin holes on the edge so they made a fun noise when you shook the hat - my mother had one :)) and the one with the large loops around a wide brim.

Hi Emily Kate ! So adorable. I love bonnetts. I downloaded the pattern and it's 35 stiches in the neckpart. 2 stiches on both side with the 31 stiches gives you 35 stiches. Hihihi I'm from Sweden. Did you increase in the corner and then dicrease on the wing part ? You're very talented 🤍🤎🤍

Hello 👋 thank you ☺️ I did do those things - phew! I'm relieved I interpreted it correctly haha I am certain it makes total sense if you know more than two words of Swedish haha It would have been nice to know before I started knitting it that I needed those extra stitches.. no thanks to you, Google translate haha I'm really pleased with ity especially considering the missing information haha
