At 7:51, the intended strat is to slide down the previous hill and time the jump to make it in one go. The invisible blocks are a back-up strat, in case you're unable to make the jump. It's not necessary to use a leaf here.

Just as a heads up, the strat used at 5:30 to clear 2-2 wouldn't work on the original version. In that one, if you leave the screen after killing an enemy, they respawn. Source: I have the original nes version on the switch and tried this exact strat. Killing the two koopas with a fireball, going back to get the leaf, and coming back, the koops will have respawned.

Cool video. I'm pretty sure the dev's made it possible to avoid the coins on purpose.

actually, the original super Mario bros. in world 3, you'll notice that the grassy decorations are white, because it's meant to be snowing, they made it more apparent in the all-stars version of the game where the ground is covered in snow, which proves you wrong.

It's interesting to see how this challenge is easier (relatively speaking) in older games like this. In Mario 3 the design philosophy was "coins are 1/100th of a life" and distributed at about that ratio - you could strip all coins from the game and put a green mushroom where every ~100th coin would be and the difficulty would be about the same. Combine that with the retro game tendency to not expect you to have infinite lives by stage three and there's just far fewer coins to avoid and no pressure taking damage boosts/deaths/game overs to do it, and this challenge creates far fewer new obstacles than it does in newer games.

Drink everytime he says easy, coins or lakitu And if you want an extreme Challenge add level, world and dash

I just completed a full coinless run for the first time (and uploaded). Here are some different strats I used: In 2-3, my strat is to hit one of the koopa shells and tail-swipe it as it bounces back. It's a pretty tight window, but it's consistent and much faster with enough practice. In 3-3, activating the p-switch turns that row of coins into a platform, making a timed obstacle course where you have the duck-jump past some coins. It's pretty fun that way.

If every lakitu was a waluigi, it would be heaven on earth

By the way such a challenge would not make sense unless they added a rule saying you could not take damage at all during the run because when this happens Sonic just looses his rings so take damage right before you finish the level and you're good to go. (Yeah, that wouldn't be very fun).

Actually, Zelda 1 might be possible with the immense amounts of glitchiness (screen warping, etc).. but I can't confirm either way. I don't think OoT or MM is possible, at least. To do the "skip to ganon's castle" glitch or escape Kokiri Forest, you need to get the deku shield which can only be bought in the store for 40 rupees. Don't think there are any other avenues without cheating/memory modification. Maybe LttP or Link's Awakening? Zelda 2?

@@theSato Can't beat Lttp without rupies, unless playing a randomizer and skip the first dungeon in the dark world. (Or doing glitches but I tend not to look those up) as you need to pay the monkey to hit the switch, to open the 1st dungeon in the dark world. Not sure on other areas but I know that one is a must. May have a pain in the ass at turtle rock as magic gets quite low throughout that dungeon and it is needed to defeat the end boss there Link's awakening you may be able to as you can steal from the shop, cant remember what is in it though. But dont go back in the shop afterwards. It has been ages since I've played it I dont think Twilight princess can be done without rupies either, not sure though

Zelda II, obviously (no rupies in the first place) Link Between Worlds... not with Rovi- um, Ravio holding all the needed tools hostage behind a paywall Breath of the Wild... not a chance. You might be able to get Daruk and Revali with ample fireproof and coldwarding potions, but both Mipha and Urbosa require the Zora and Gerudo outfits (which can only be bought.) Wind Waker... can't be done. Even with that one swimming glitch, there's a checksum to see whether or not you've bought the sail later on (the game crashes if you haven't.)
