Which lens u use?

There isn't stabilization on board, but it does record gyro information for post stabilization. Extremely useful and much better than most post stabilizing options

Also helps you to eliminate the rolling shutter artifacts and making it look as if it was shot with global shutter.

I shoot a lot with it with some extra batteries and a loupe. It works beautifully without rigging it.

I've had my Pocket Cinema Camera 4K for about a year and a half. It was my main camera for about six months until I invested in a Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K G1. Both cameras are awesome and I use the Pocket mostly as a run and gun camera (using NP-F batteries inserted in a left hand handle from Tilta) and sometimes I'll put it on a Flycam or even a gimbal (Moza Aircrews 2 with added weights!). I use a Andycine Ultra Bright monitor (2000nits) and sometimes have a Redrock Micro Remote motorized focus on it with the finger wheel. It adds some weight to it but still functional. If you are going to go with a Pocket 4K, I would suggest investing in a Metabones Speedbooster (the one made specifically for the Pocket 4K). This will correct your crop to about 70% making it closer to the lens's natural look. By the way, isn't the EF lens you were using Super 35 and not full frame? If it is Super 35 then the speed booster will really work well. When I do interviews, I use my Pocket 4K on a slider while my Ursa Mini Pro is the main camera on the subject. I also have an original Ursa 4K that I use if I need to shoot the interviewer. That one doesn't;t shoot in Braw but only in RAW DNG or ProRes which I usually use (ProRes 422HQ actually). I usually can match the colours fairly well. Of course it really makes a difference when you should in "Film" profile which keeps the image flat. Davinci does a great job at getting the colours just right!...

I purchased in 2022, sold my a7siii and now i am used to this camera, and i totally love it, wouldnt change to anything else

@@DBMOTIONZ Keep shooting, as much you can, learn camera by filmed videos what u have capturer. I learned exposure alot . Comparing to a7siii now i can with bmcc4k shoot better compositions actually care more about focus and not overshooting as i did before and my footage is 10x better and more better

I got mine in 2022. I have a lot of Olympus micro four thirds lenses, and I recently got a couple of used SLR Magic cinema lenses. I like micro four thirds. I'd like to see the BMPCC4k updated with a moveable, brighter screen and a hookup for the Blackmagic Pro EVF.

love my 4k and 6k og. really looking forward to the micro studio camera for more action cam stuff and run and gun rig

I still use this camera alongside my recently acquired URSA Mini 12k, and while URSA offers better image quality the two cameras match flawlessly, and I don't plan on selling the pocket 4K as it's actually a good addition. I've 3D printed SSD docks from Caleb Pike's YT channel that I use on both cameras, - definitely better than Tilta SSD holders once you set it up right.

Have you used the Sigma 18-35 lens with the K&F Concept EF-M4/3 adapter? Is it possible to control manual focus using this setup? And the aperture, is it also possible to control it? I would like to know the limitations of this combination.

I've used these for years in my studio as my KZread cameras. They are great studio cams. As far as using them on a job, I've only shot one project with them, as they get a little too clunky for my micro shooter life style. I'm currently shooting on the Sigma fp.

i had one, traded it in for a smaller mirrorless because the kind of things I was filming, i needed more versatility, but the images i got from that thing are still some of the best i ever had

A major plus is getting Davinci Resolve Studio version editing software for free. I like free.. Thanks for the info!

Another advantage, I blew the motherboard on the camera (my fault) I called blackmagic, arranged to take it to their repair facility which is just 15 min from where I live in Melbourne at 10am and at 3pm the same day they called and said it was ready to pick up. Fantastic!

you said it's great with no attachments, but also say it's better with attachments and you also have some on yours. what are those specifically or what would you recommend?

BM pocket, gateway drug to a Ursa or red camera.

I have it for 2024..I added 7artisans lens and it's incredible...but I m still learning...with a monopod I can hold the camera more still since there is no stabilization per se...but it's nice to use and very film like...

What kind of record time you getting off that SmartRig D-tap?

There is stabilisation its just a kind of hybrid and not totally in camera, there is a Gyro in the camera and Davinci Resolve uses the data which is embedded in the footage to give a post production stabilisation option. its actually better than in camera sabilisation because you can play with it after the event and tweak it to suit your needs in post. it also has one shot autofocus and aperature control built in for supported elenses just not continious but cnema cameras are usually handled manually anyway,

You can import gyro data to Gyroflow and it works much better, try it

Great video just got this camara this past weekend. At a yard sale for $10 with a few lens TOO high tech for me. Heavy and great quality.

Trying to choose a first time film camera is a jarring task lol. How would this pair up agains a lumix s5mk2 or sony a7 iii

I have the Blackmagic Battery grip on my BMPCC 6K which more than doubles the battery life- it's a good shout if you want to keep your rig a little smaller

Me too! i got the neewer battery grip which hold 3 batteries it’s plasticky but it works when shooting around the house. I get a lot battery life.

Does bmpcc 4k have flaws of course but is it still amazing hellllll yaa! I've been using for 3 years now and it still blows my mind... love the combination of bmpcc 4k and davinci resolve.

There is literally no other equal at that price point. The only issue is the heavy storage required for BRAW and the poor battery life. Other than that, it's a quality cinema camera.

I have the tilta screen mod with on board SSD on the original 6k. A neck strap attached to a Manfrotto base plate. Sigma 18 - 35 on the front. Thats the rig. It is my everyday carry. It’s superb.

bmpcc4k was a game changer ...and still is! If you are into film making, no other camera in 2023 can still compete against it for value for money especially with Braw Got mine on pre order when they first came out and wont sell it. Have a GH5 for run and gun Yeah im a cheap charlie ...lol

I use a GoPro 11 for my channel and I'm looking to upgrade im trying to fined a decent camera

This camera is pretty old now, but I'm seriously considering it. I'm a motovlogger and I find it funny that you used a Harley in the intro. I just started my channel 2 years ago, but I find myself shooting more Doc style, and this camera would fit right into my kit as I shoot log. Appreciate this video 👌👌👌 Thanks 🙏

Did you try the 120 fps, and if so, does autofocus work?

Is it would be a great choice for first Camera ever? I wanna buy something that is capable 4k60 video record, and nice pictures

If you are to shoot cinema style (prepared to use gimbal, steadycam, focus pulling), yes, definitely, it's very friendly. You can take photos with it, but it's not for that. For quick travel and family videos, probably not optimal.

Instead of an SSD I would recommend an NVME with an external NVME case. A REALLY GOOD NVME case costs about 60 to 70 bucks (I would recommend the AORUS ROG STRIX ARION (if you dont mind the RGB crap...) and then NVME depends on what size and speed you want (I would recommend PCI E 4 NVME drives which are faster). The reason I recommend this over a regular ssd is the extra speed and the compact size.

Great review! DPs understand the "pocket" aspect of this cinema camera. Most Cinema cameras are 2x or 3x the size of the BMPCC, & as with every cinema camera, you MUST rig it out to get the most out of it. Cinema cameras are all about the final image, not the ease of use, & for the price, this camera is an absolute STEAL!

I'm using a 1 Terabyte Samsung 970 EVO Plus 'NVMe SSD' in a USB enclosure. Total cost = $135 CAD I'm using a Makita battery adapter and DC-DC buck converter for power. 15-40VDC input - 12VDC output. My battery rig is mounted on my belt and I use the wall adapter cord to connect to the camera. I bought some small power connectors, so that I can switch from battery to wall adapter.

There are few, if any, cameras that can offer the same level of technical specs of the BMPCC4K at it's price point. IMHO this is THE entry level camera for professional video work.

What adapter did you use? And did it allow you the autofocus?

It was a K&F filter for the micro four thirds adaptor. It did not allow for autofocus.

I LOVE my BMPCC4K

i'm used to Panasonic cameras and just picked a pocket4k. It makes me realises how good Lumix is... The price of the cfast 2.0 is ridiculous so i'm going to have to stick to external ssd and the battery life is just not usable, so external power (usb PD sounds the best option i have many usb powerbanks).... For someone shooting on a tripod I guess it's not an issue, but what a pain.

People don’t really talk about BM cameras in the film world. Arri, Red, Sony yes but not really BM. Sadly a lot ACs and DPs aren’t even a fan. But in the Indie world, and the YT videography world they’re really embraced

On a big budget film set where the price of the camera is barely a factor but the reliability is, BM isn't worth messing with. On an indie set where the price of the camera is the main issue, BM is king.

for me the MFT sensor is for the most part a non issue. in terms of image i havent noticed a difference between it and other sensors + the lenses are much more affordable

Regarding autofocus, you can use DJI RS Lidar together with Ronin RS pro 3 and then you have fast autofocus up to 14 meters. Cine lens can get autofocus that way. I just love that camera, but I might want to sell it because I need a hybrid camera more - but the fact that you can easily use two systems on it is also a plus in my opinion. Regarding the battery, there are quite a few on the market that makes it easier to use. In relation to stabilization, you can use Blackmagic pocket gyro data which does a much better job than image stabilization.

ALSO, In a multi - camera shoot with multiple Blackmagic cameras and an ATEM Switcher, you can control the white balance and other features remotely.

It's quite a large camera compared to others nowadays. Not terrible to throw in a backpack though.

Considering the size and price of the BM “Pocket” cameras, if one were looking for a more run and gun camera at a similar price point, I’d consider the Panasonic S5IIX. The footprint is smaller and it’s full frame with all the same choices for image size and codecs. My two cents, but I’m sure there are many who will disagree.

I own both the BMPCC 4K & S5ii and they aren't at the same price point. the BMPCC 4K goes for 1200€ and the S5ii goes for 2200€. Plus they don't have the same features but I love them both

The Pocket 6k Pro with a battery grip and a large capacity CFast card solves many of the problems here. Brighter screen, larger sensor, better battery life, internal NDs, no need for external SSD etc...

@@GearFocus Yeah, I think it makes sense as by the time you add a battery solution, external monitor etc to the regular 6k or the 4k, you're pretty much at the price of the 6k Pro anyway. I've had the 6k Pro a couple of years and I love it

I had a 4k for a while but I sold it in favor of my Fujifilm XT-4. It just gets me what I want faster, the battery is good, and the 4k is oversampled from 6k and looks really clean. I thought I needed the 12-bit raw to be able to aadjust my footage but the 10-bit in the XT-4 has never gotten messy when I adjust it. It won't save totally wrong white balance but you can still adjust it quite well. Oh, and it has lenses made for it so you don't end up getting barrel distortion on that nice lens you buy for the 4k. That really frustrated me.

The Fuji cameras are a great choice, especially the XT lineup!

The only flaw this camera has is its battery, but other than that the BMPCC 4K is still a great and affordable option for filmmakers...

We also need to stop calling the suck-y battery life as a "con". All cinema cameras with exception of some Sony and Canon are poor on a small battery. Yoi'll always use/need a larger battery solution. Its not a con, its the tradeoff you accept for shooting 12bit (16bit linear) internal RAW/BRAW at huge mbps data rates. I would say the biggest flaw of the Pocket series, including the swivel-able 6K Pro is the lack of articulated screen. I think BMD definitely shat the bed on that one. If you purchase any of the Pocket cameras, including the OG understand you'll eventually also be purchasing an external monitor if you desire to have any angles besides eye level. The 6K Pro addresses this to some extent, but honestly BMD could have and should have done better here, especially when you look at their Ursa line which has had a flippy screen starting second gen. No excuse BMD, go stand in the corner.

I had enough to buy 4k and 6k but I decided 4k and now I wish I could've got the 6k

I love BMD cameras but doing "run and gun" without a good AF camera in 2023 is just a masochistic behavior. However this camera is still an unmatched beast for many professionals usage ( wild life video shooting, macro video shooting, etc.). No camera is perfect, just pick the best one for your specific usage.

How do you render your videos so well?! I use DR too, and when I try to upload videos to KZread, it looks TERRIBLE compared to this!

Few different variables. In the export window here are the settings we have check set up: Quicktime H.254 3840x2160 23.976 Restrict to - 80,000 Encoding Profile - Main10 Those are the basic settings we have set up, let us know if you'd like to know more about the advanced settings.

Uhh, BMPCC 4k/6k shooters, please stop using the Sigma Art lens. Why? Because it nullifies the native edge gradation of the camera's BMD tunned sensor. If you use something like an Olympus 12-35 2.8 constant or vintage like Canon FD or Ziess, you'll see a noteable difference in the organic quality of the image. The Sigma Art is working against this because it's so clinically sharp across the entire frame, edge to edge. Great for video. It's terrible when you desire that filmic, organic look out of the box, even without a Pro Mist.

Finally somebody with some sense!!! I hate when ppl buy this camera and slap a sigma on there cuz everyone else does it, It's a cinema Camera, Invest in Cinema Lenses to get the best possible image you can out of the camera, It's a tool after all

I can't speak to the 4Ks, but I can speak for the 6Ks. These have many of the same cons as the 4K, such as the battery life, but the pros make all the difference. The name of the camera includes the word, "cinema." I use two 6k cameras (PRO and G2) for that purpose: original narrative content. Nobody beats the images when shooting original scripted content. Throw in DaVinci Resolve (which they do with the camera) and my graded images are superior to anything my local counterparts can produce using things like Reds, Canon and especially Sony. You're right, these aren't for vlogging on the fly. They're not meant to be. Now if you want some kick-butt-visually-cinematic images that you can design with a touch of a finger followed by a mouse click, then this is the camera! ...and since this video was produced, BMD added a full frame version for 2600 US.

I do run and gun, events, music videos, weddings and so on. I can mount it on gimbal and so on.

I avoided these like the plague. I used a 6D instead. Looking back these were neat cameras man.

Why do you shake your hands all the time?

"Shaky uncontrollable look?" Sounds like you need to learn how to hold a camera with a manual lens. You sound a lil bias. There's no problem recording 4k hfr onto cards. No need for any external ssd.

I wish I could actually see true colors. I dk why everyone is so stuck up on making their footage look so warm and think it looks cool. It looks pale, all in one yellow color tone to me. The sky is grey/green and not blue, skin tones look like you just walked out of a tanning salon. Argh!

this guy is rigging up the camera to shoot a motorcycle.. ouch.. just hold the bloody camera in your hands and learn how to be filmmaker..

Really horrible rewiew for an extremely good camera. You are like 5 years late for all of your comments. The more people like you the more i love my trade as a DOP with this CINEMA camera. Keep using all auto cameras and plaese leave the real cinema work for us old school pros. Cheers.
