seeing this pop up on my home page just reminded me of a mc series called the far lands (they basically traveled to the far lands lmao) that stacyplays and graser were in.. and boy did that take me down a loop whole. thank you for bringing me down memory lane
so, if anyone was curious, I'm pretty sure that a lot of the weirdness that happens near the farlands is a result of float imprecision. Basically, the way minecraft, and most computer programs, for that matter, store non-integer numbers, such as coordinates is by using floating point variables. because of the way floating point variables are stored, the further the number is from zero, the less precise the number can be, meaning that the distance between possible values gets wider and wider. in most contexts this basically never matters, because the range of possible values is pretty huge, but at extreme values things can start to get very noticeably broken. The farlands themselves are, I believe, when the distance between consecutive values gets so big that it breaks something about Minecraft's terrain generation code.
The farlands HAS to be something minecraft needs to reimplement to the game, kind of gives me maze runner vibes tbh and the generation is stunning as well
@IAmProfessionallyStupid
11 ай бұрын
They can't "reimplement" it, it's a bug, you don't code bugs, they appear because you weren't specific enough in your code and then you have to spend hours if not days fixing it, trust me, i know that, i am a programmer myself.

We have a kind of farlands in bedrock. It's mostly just jittery stuff like these guys had just before they reached the farlands, but if you go far enough blocks only generate in stripes and you need an elytra and fireworks to move, and then even further they only generate in a grid. Then everything stops eventually.
For me the craziest thing about this is thinking that I actually played this version at the time of release! (And a few before it..) I remember when hunger was added, and I also remember when redstone was added 😮😮

One of the greatest mc videos I have ever seen, your videos are really nice, I hope you get to 1 Million subscribers soon
If the world was created 1.12.2 you could downgrade through every version until you hit around the 1.0 mark. Then you would have to downgrade the world to beta 1.7.3 using a MCA to MCR region converter which replaces all modern blocks. You could go even further and downgrade to alpha or infdev using an old version of mcedit though that would require you to manually remove all modern blocks that don't exist in alpha or infdev or it would crash.

its crazy to see how far you are going. i remember watching your hypixel skyblock streams lol. Have you ever considered playing skyblock again
I wish you can do that in newer versions. I guess its like where the world goes broken or something but the farlands look really great
what if on the last version you would get someone to leave right before restart and make him rejoin on 1.19 and go down to 1.11 over and over again
Great video, cool watch. Want to bring some attention though to the group of 5 or 6 guys who have individually walked to the farlands with no nether, no end, no version changes, etc... just a couple months walking in game.
