It was nice to see that the cowboys took this challenge seriously and weren't just horsing around. While I wanted Max Fosh polo club fc to be the dark horse in this competition, they unfortunately lost, but they took it in a stride

Max- next time you're up to shenanigans in the states, if a southern american shows off a gun in a friendly way like that, say "nice!" and you'll gain friendship points with them. Yknow, like in the sims. Also, instead of scones, tell them there will be cornbread. If possible, offer brisket. You may find greater success in recruiting this way.

I was disappointed that the cowboys didn't get to ride their own horses and tack but had to get to know strange horses in the same day- cutting horses and reining horses would have absolutely SMASHED at polo. Polo players had an unfair advantage! REMATCH!!!!!

I think it was done for safety reasons. Their horses might not be used to the mallets being swung everywhere and polo horses tend to get really close to eachother. Nor would a western saddle be really helpful given it's size it would probably have been in the way

​@@mateobarkey7883 some origins of a similar game come from raiding parties trying to steal food/livestock while on horseback. Also from practicing and challenging other military cavalry and horseback technique. Turning it into a game to practice Thier skills and decide who's best.

@@choomah ya, you talking about the one with the soccor ball with hangles? I know polo originated in the middle east in small mountain villages, eventually being adopted by occupying British cavalry as a training exercise, officers eventually spread it throught the empire leaving us the game we have today. ALTHOUGH funny enough original polo was played with 8 players per team and they where allowed to hit eachother with the mallets lol

@@mateobarkey7883 for the raiding party version I was thinking of the version with the goat 😅 But yeah, it's evolved independently in different regions, but the version most recognised as 'Polo', like you say adopted by the British for it's use as both a past time and development of horseback skill. Hence it's prestige in England at least. But to go in something mentioned above, how it's either extreme wealth or poverty classes that play. I wonder if any amount of crossover come not only from the practice of playing out "a raid" but also from emulation of higher class. Like "The rich play this, so play this sport not others. It's more classy than football/soccer." Sort of like making your kid dress nice, speak "proper". And so on 🤔

My grandfather helped start the Cheyenne Wyoming Polo club in 1932 , with cowboys playing polo with Army officers from the Eastern US stationed in the Area. It’s an inspired idea Max.

I know it started as a laugh, but this actually was a really great video Max. Ended with a big smile on my face, they seemed to enjoy themselves doing something new that also still involved their skillset. I bet you if you go back in 12 months those guys carry polo mallets(?) to kill time. Riding around and hitting something with a stick is probably hard to resist when you already have the horses

I just want to say thank you for unlocking a memory I didn’t know I had. My grandparents were in Texas in Dallas when they were alive. And I visited this place with my grandpa (Texas stock yard). As soon as I saw those cows my memory clicked and I remembered the gunshot. Thank you for the nostalgia. I was like 10 at that time. I remember my brother got a cowboy hat. Also I bought a stone small wolf from the gift shop. I should go back.

One of the hardest things about these cowboys playing this sport is the saddles. Cowboy saddles, or 'Western Saddles' are built for comfort and security vs English Saddles, or those used for polo are built for agility. It's a completely different feel, the cowboys kicked ass!

I would legitimately watch a feature length film, ideally by Tim Firth, about a working class kid who got in on scholarship to a posh school but is shunned from the Polo team. Because of a quirk in the posh school bylaws (it is actually a number of colleges assembled into a single school, and one college which only exists to deliver a single cheap course as a tax avoidance scheme) he is able to start a polo team for one of the pretend college, enroll a bunch of unique folks such as cowboys, someone riding an enormous shire horse for work, a rodeo clown bullrider (because the rules for the polo competition technically allow bulls), a jouster from a LARPing group. At some point the posh team would enlist a matador to try and counter the rodeo clown, who would be in full makeup at all times also.

At the end when the cowboys scored their goal, not only did the polo player blocking “miss” but they all cheered, super wholesome.

I drove to work in that storm and watched three trees fall over, had to move a fourth out of the road, thought I was near a tornado. Winds were crazy, our company lost power for the day. Crazy you were here without even knowing it!
