I just took this challenge the other day (week of 8/13 - 8/19 2023). They make it out to be 5 swings with yours and 5 swings with theirs. Well in a way they cheat in my opinion. After you feel warmed up with your current driver they take the numbers from your 5 swings, then your into the first part of a driver fitting with theirs and they temp use those next 5 swings as a base. They actually give you a full driver after the first 5 swings, which is nice and they do a very good job at that. What they do is after the first 5 with theirs they continue the fitting process and by the time they are done with that, they take the best fitting and compare to your original driver and that is what dictates the overall outcome of the challenge. Now don't get me wrong, they do a proper fitting and I was happy with the results, but the final was very similar to my driver stats which got beat by an upgraded shaft (Ventus Black at $300) and weight change that say the Stealth 2 Plus does not have. Again, the PXG fitter was great and did a great fitting and would recommend. As to the challenge, expect to have a few different fittings to compete with your driver.

Agreed... Titleist ride or die!! I would go on a limb and say if I cranked to loft down and maybe put that Ventus Black 6X in the TSR3 I would get similar or better number given enough swings at it. Cheers!

also note in every one of these challenges you will notice that the loft always is lower than the current driver. lower loft means lower ball flight thus more roll out which give guess what more distance. now what would happen if the gen club was hit first and then current driver?????

Im gonna bet that the wins against PXG are 0-none. If you only get 5 swings with yours and 25 with theirs I can tell you who wins. Its also not apples to apples they usually drop your loft to get it out further. Its cool what they can do as far as fitting but the driver head isnt the deal here its all the fitting.

Totally agree, that is what I was kind of getting at when I asked about how much is the club versus him fitting it. I knew once he dropped to 7.5 all he needed was three decent swings to "get more distance", add that to your gamer only getting 5 (after a warm-up though), and he is also picking the data. Its a clever marketing campaign for sure though. Cheers!

Smart video 😉 Nothing against PXG but when dude saw 4k spin he started drooling. He could have taped that PXG head to a telephone pole & you'd have hit farther. Notice your smash is actually higher w/your gamer. Looking at your numbers (-4 path ain't ideal but it's not uncommon) I'm curious if your AoA is down? Also, thanks for this one, it was informative!

  • @GolfOnTap

Oh dude I know, hahaha. I'm no dope about it. The report I got doesn't list AoA unfortunately, but I've usually been around 0-2 up. When he pulled the 7.5 head I knew what he was going for, lower loft is usually lower spin, but a bit harder to hit. So the distance would happen with enough swings. Cheers!

I hate pxg. I have been through fittings with them and own a driver and 3 wood. Gen 4. Their fittings are crap and are based on a single session which for 99% of us means it’s either a good day or bad day swinging. Unless you have a repeatable swing (which only pros and scratch golfers really have), you need to be fitted over several sessions and several days. My pxg fitting put me into such a bad combo of brag, weights and shafts for my every day playing that it’s actually laughable. While I have not tried their gen 6, their previous woods are all crap compared to the big brands. Yes, I’m soured on the brand thanks to a bad phone fitting and bad in person fitting and seeing all the terrible builds that leave their factory (anyone buying pxg really needs to do a spec check when they receive them as there are countless complaints about incorrect builds). They fell off a cliff on stuff when they lowered prices. Likely moved everything to China and hired inexperienced people to do the assembly in the US.

I was cruising the products (irons, putters, and what not) while I was waiting for my challenge time slot. They seemed nice, but I'm in general, such a Titleist cult member it would be hard for me to make the switch. Truthfully, I think there is a big gap in the fitting industry to what "getting fit" should actually be. I think I might do a video on it, cheers!

@@GolfOnTap I just got a set of t100s about 3 months ago. I love them. I had titleist and Taylor made at my courses doing fittings and once I hit the t100’s with recoil shafts (I’m getting older and wanted to try graphite), I was blown away and got them. Longer than my Hogan PTX irons and maybe a tad less forgiving but they are great. Ordering a 48 degree gap wedge as I am hitting them 10-15 yards further due to the 2 degree stronger loft over my hogans and the lighter shafts. My PW is like a 145 club now and have nothing between 125 and 145. So I’m becoming a titleist fan. Even thinking of going Vokey for my wedges whereas I’ve been a Cleveland guy (or callaway when they hired the Cleveland designer) most of my life. One last thing on pxg. My original driver fitting was done over the phone. I have a home sim and provided all my stats on ball data and club data. The fitter put me into an evenflo riptide shaft saying it’s perfect for me. When I couldn’t hit it, I was able to setup in person check at my course with a pxg fitter. He took a look at my swing and said whoever fit you for this should be fired. It’s completely wrong. At that fitting I went into a Aldila shaft in x stiff which I swore was wrong but the fitter said to trust him. It’s a pos and I can’t hit it consistently. Not when I’m waiting between shots and not rapid firing like in a fitting. Anyway…I digress….my biggest issue with pxg was when I asked about returning the bad phone fitting and returns, the in person fitter said he could not help and I’d have to call customer service. I did and they still made me pay shipping and 15% restocking fee. Horrible business practice and they lost me forever.

Really enjoyed the video! Why not try a ventus 6x in your titelist? And you can lower the loft if you're not already at the lowest. There's a reason so many pro players are rocking the ventus black and to a lesser degree blue.
