I took a gap year, and I felt useless and dumb. I thought that I wasn't doing anything, but I came to a realization that I actually did a lot this year. I learned friendships don't last, I learned boundaries, and I learned how to control my mind by not being controlled or blinded by lust and overthinking. And lastly, I learned how to compare myself to my past self and not to compare to others because I definitely did a lot of that in the past. But, everyone has their own timing of things. Don't compare yourself to others. I really loved this video it made me teary-eyed, it's absolutely beautiful and wholesome. I wish I could've traveled, but I will someday. (If you read this uhm thank you

Wow, this is like exactly what im in the middle of but I'm just realizing these things and its kinda scary tbh. And i just dont know how to move on. it just feels like im stuck and time is running out. I know i have more than enough fight in me to tackle life and get going but i just dont know where or how to start. I was just wondering when reading your comment how you moved on and got over those things?

@@onnoterkuile9007 Hey, you're not alone, but I definitely understand how it's kinda scary. I started off getting some free time. Like some actually free time, where I could do anything I want for the whole day. Working out, dancing, other hobbies, and of course getting a lot of sleep haha. I did this until I actually felt useless again. Sometimes, the feeling comes back. But, you just gotta keep moving past that and preservere. Remember the universe is trying to tell you something if it hurts. I focused more on meditation, journaling, and improving my body. I have a feeling you must feel like meditation is boring and stuff. I thought it was at first, but it's really comforting. Because our minds are thinking non-stop. Yet, when we meditate we're at peace even for a few minutes of our day. If it's noisy in your household try to get some peaceful music in or try to get some ear plugs, cause that's what I did in my loud ass house. You can also meditate while working out like stretching. And other type of way I meditate is doing chores. For example, I just wash the dishes while thinking of nothing. So, you can definitely do different kinds of meditation that suits you. To fully answer your question. I didn't completely move on. I'm still sad sometimes that I lost friends and that I am not able to study. Yet, I know that I needed to learn these things to be more strong in order to strive in this world. "It's about the journey, not the destination." Also be gentle on yourself, give credit to yourself that you made it this far. You are strong. Do things that you want without caring about other's opinions cause someday we might not be able to do them and that will forever revolve around your head and give you some regrets. But at the same time you shouldn't have regrets cause it's not good for your mental health. So, keep that perspective, view things more positively. Challenge yourself by ignoring bullshet of others. There's so much things to say haha. I hope you get the gist of it. But, if you want to talk about it more, feel free to dm me on ig: justmclivin. ✌️😆

for anyone considering gap year after high school:- take it, even if u cant afford to travel anywhere just take it. i was extremely overwhelmed from school, future, exams, everything. i decided it'll be okay to take a break and I've had so much fun. i caught up on my friends, family hung out with them, starting working out, i loved every second. unfortunately i could only afford to take 5 months off as i had to prepare for the next year's entrance exam, time went so fast when i was relaxed. those 5 months were the best years of my life, even though I didn't do anything adventurous. if you're burnt out, the least u could do for yourself is take a break.

I´m just on a gap year to see the world (currently in New Zealand) and it is the best decision you can make. It's not always easy, but it pays off in so many different ways. You will never regret it.

yo simon. idk if you’ll see this but man I’m laying down watching this video and it was hard for me to finish it. I found myself pausing several times throughout thinking to myself “I am a loser.” I recently just dropped out of school, or I guess I’ll call it an indefinite break. I am completely lost and I feel like time is running out. Seeing you come this far from a TikTok challenge is really, really inspiring. Ive lived my life fantasizing what it’ll be like to “embrace” the unknown rather than actually entering it. And with my decision to put school on pause, i’ve been deciphering the purpose of my life and the dream that I so willingly push to the side due to its inconvenience and the unknown. I, too, dream of telling stories. I haven’t fully said that out loud. Maybe I fear that people will laugh and tell me that I’m not capable of doing so, confirming the narrative I’ve already internalized. But it’s something I can’t go a day without thinking about, that must mean something, right? So idk where I’ll be tomorrow or next week or next year but I know that I’ll put all of my energy into keeping this dream alive. Lord knows it’s done the same for me.

well u just wrote a super eloquent comment so i know ur capable if people laugh, it's ok. Seriously, *it's ok* I struggle with that a lot I feel like I have to hide and that every time I show a little bit of myself, people laugh at me and call me pathetic or weird or whatever. But you can't please everyone and it's kinda something that you come to terms with by doing it. Easier said than done, but then that's the case with everything. It's easier to dream about dreams. So do your dreams, for yourself if not for anyone else. Take baby steps. Pick up a pen and write down just one idea. Then you've solidified it, you've made it tangible and that alone is beautiful. also u might know all of this already, idk, just sharing what little i've found out about this crazy world! I rly rly hope that u figure things out and just know that you can do it. Don't listen to the people who say you can't, don't even listen to yourself when you say you can't. Keep the dream alive I can't wait to see it ;)

I'm 19 and I'm entering slowly but steadily this very phase. I can't stop crying after watching this beautiful video, cuz I'm thinking that Hey this might happen to me too one day in the near future. Right now I feel like I can do nothing right, I don't know anything, no experiences, nothing that can make me espace the "just surviving day after day" phase. Also my motto till now was "Work hard, and get results. No matter the costs". But there was one small problem. I didn't pay enough attention to the people around me, thus, I left myself alone. You just changed that. The people around you really matter. The communities, like you said, really matter. The past few years I thought that strong people can shoulder anything. Guess not...That's why we build communities. I'm really starting to understand now. And just like you said: "There's something so beautiful about throwing yourself into the unknown and just seeing what happens...to take that leap of faith and to embrace the possibilities of failing". I gotta take that leap of faith too and embrace all possibilities that may occur in this stage of life called "University", meeting new people, learning as much as I can, acquiring as many life skills as I can. Thank you for all of this

I am a teacher, but did not become a teacher until after I was 30. I did a little bit of traveling. I met Australians and New Zealanders, who would travel all of the world. I often said that they were some of the best educated people I’ve ever met. As a teacher, I could immediately identify students who had either older brothers or sisters, or who had traveled extensively. They were usually more patient and had a knowledge beyond the scope with your classmates. If I were to go back in time and give myself advice, I would’ve told myself to extend my trip to England stick it out and travel the world. I would also give that advice to anyone else after high school graduation. Work save up money, travel the world, and then decide to either enter a trade or to go to college.

I want to travel and so much more but at the same time I feel so hopeless? I tell myself nah it's gonna work out even though I don't think it will, I' m broke and am pretty much a mental mess. I'm planing on moving out tho im only 16 and start living more happy and healthy but everything is just a pain .... I really don't know anything basically but your video really comforted me, thank you

I just want to say, thank you simon. I was going through a hard time yesterday and what i did was put on my headphones and watched your videos. Your words are really effective. Your inspiring and motivate me(us). Im also proud of you. You showed me being "alone" is okay but its not something that should be forever. This year has been a really long journey, its been a discovery of "finding myself" i wouldn't say i found myself, but i found parts of myself i never knew were there. Ive learnt that experiences= growth and growth= strength within the self. It prepares you for the next experience (if its a bad or good one it doesn't matter). Life is unpredictable and thats what makes life such a crazy, wonderful, awful, painful and eventful "thing".

This world is a wholesome place and we just don't know that. The majority has the mindset of rushing out of high school and leaping straight into college knowing that one way or another they are forcing their lives into great hinder, which is in a way a good thing. Whereas, an extremely small amount of people think of a unique way to experience the world the way they want other than getting on the bandwagon. This my friend, is an incredibly unique way to enhance your life. Just take a break and get out of that nutshell. Life can be hard AF and you never know when you'll get to leave this all behind, so wake up. Simon this video was a wonderful inspiration, and I really appreciate sharing this stunning timeline of yours.

I’ve been really scared because I have no idea what I want too do and I feel so lost and I know I’m young and have “time” but I know it will pass fast. I'm currently a junior in high school and am, unfortunately, gonna go through the craziness that the college application is going to bring. I thought about taking a gap year before I start college and traveling around the world but always thought that it was impossible and going to be a bad decision. Not only would I have been a year behind my peers but I would most likely be lonely and have no one to enjoy the experience with this video gave me a newfound hope and desire to travel the world. I'm happy I found you before the college application season started. If I can convince at least one of my friends it will enrich the experience of traveling but even if I don't, I would still be happy to travel alone. Loneliness might honestly be the best company. I could figure myself out and be away from the madness a bit. You are without a doubt a true inspiration and I hope that anyone watching this gets hope and inspiration.

I’m currently taking a gap year and it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made. It helped me get to truly know my self and not the perception of myself that other have had created. First time in my life I have found my actual purpose in life is, what I value, and what I rebel against. I was uncertain of my university choice after I graduated highschool, and even though I will be majoring in the same thing I was supposed to, now I will do this out of passion, an internal call, rather than rush and expectations of the society. I’ll never not recommend gap years enough. It has saved my true self.

This seems like such a great experience. Out of my 6 years being in pharmacy school I’ve always wanted to take a gap year but stuck through it. Seeing your journey is amazing seeing your growth was an inspiration. Currently in my last year of Pharmacy school I’m spending time traveling on rotations (clinicals) going to different states meeting new practicioners, new patients, and enjoying new activities. I’ve realized I don’t want to work in my home state Missouri because I’m limiting myself by staying here. The workd has a lot to offer and there are patients out here in this world in underserved communities that I will have opportunities to help treat and get them healthier beyond just medications. I hope after I graduate I’ll have the chance to do it, I know I will I just hope I can get the right job and facility that gives me the autonomy to do so. This is great and I’m hapoy to see you have done something great to find yourself and expand your “WHY” for life. I hope others see this and take the opportunity to find their own “WHY” and use it to impact their life, their family, their community, and most importantly the world! ❤️

This video caught my attention from the beginning! Normally I want to scroll the videos when I watch. But this masterpiece of storytelling got me really in it! ✌️

I was going to stop watching this video about 3 minutes in, but for some reason my brain told me to keep watching. I feel almost the same. I’m 19 and in college and I feel so lost about who I am and what my heart actually wants. I have ideas but none of them are for sure. This video taught me that it’s ok to step into the void and just try. I’m going to reflect on this video to help push myself as a human being to do more and embrace better relationships and get closer to others. Thank you Simon I hope you can become a big creator one day and influence many more to push towards goals they’ve always had.

Stumbled on your video in my suggested after having just got back from Thailand for a month. As a bit of an introvert it was hard for me to travel alone for the first time, but honestly, it's changed my outlook on life. Whilst it was only a small trip it was huge for me and has left me with a thirst to get out and start travelling more. Not sweating the small stuff and not getting hung up on things in the past. Just living in the moment, exploring and saying yes more. Whenever you find yourself stuck thinking "should I do this" when travelling, you should think "imagine the story that I can tell people when I get back" I found myself saying yes to a lot more. Experiencing things that people might only dream of. Amazing content by the way, great cinematography and what a lovely end.
