I Thought It Was All Over For This GMC

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I have a look at a customers GMC 1500 with the big 5.3. He dropped it off and said it had a "little tick" in the engine. Yeahhh a little tick huh!? Sounds more like A LOT OF TICK to me.

Got to work, local ford had the part, grabbed part and some tools and when I got back to the truck there was a note 'from a mechanic' that he noticed my belt hanging down and to check it out before driving. He was a Ford mechanic and a buddy had told him his F350 was using a ton of oil. Dad said I know it's gonna sound strange but next oil change use Motorcraft oil and see what happens. No more using a ton of oil. This was back in the stone age (late 70's). I'm not saying he should put Motorcraft oil in a GMC because that just goes against the laws of nature. Maybe change oil brands. Maybe not use Walmart oil. Maybe not go to Express Lube and Chinese food.

It was definitely NOT a wasted video, I never thought about removing a belt to run the engine as a diagnostic tool. Thank you.

Decades ago I had a 1970 Volvo 145. Driving it home from work on the freeway I heard the unmistakable sound of a rod knock. I got it home and dropped the pan... no loose rod bearings! The sound, even at pull-through, was actually coming from under the timing cover. The fiber ringed timing gear had separated, with the fiber piece riding up until it slapped back down. I replaced the gear and all was well.

Been there done that with my 145 somewhere on Vermont Route 29 east of Schuylerville, NY. I pulled the timing cover in the Summer sun while my work partner first hitched to town for a 1 1/16" socket and then to Albany for a timing set ($110.00). Installed the new gears, tightened the nut and snapped the end right off the camshaft. What a day! We still had to go to Marine city, Michigan and I was burned to a sun-fired crisp. Good times. Not quite 50 years ago!

Yes, there are a lot of dishonest shops out there that would have pretended they had to tear the engine down. We all wish you lived in our area.

The best videos are when Mrs O’ appears and the interaction with you. It’s obvious that you two are a based couple and still like each other! This is saying a lot for marriage! It can work, even at work with the right mate! Plus, you gave me hope for my GMC Sierra! Thought for sure the DMF took out the cam when I heard you start that truck

That was the noisest tensioner I've ever heard! It sounded like the battery may be a little tired when the engine was cranked over. HHMMM. Maybe the next video for this vehicle? Good one Mr. O. Nice to see Mrs. O.

Scared me as well when you first cranked it, I thought it had completely wiped the valvetrain. Good thing he has you for a mechanic, he could've been taken to the cleaners.

Not a silly video at all! I bought a 1981 Impala with 80k & a "bad engine." They were told that the rod bearings were shot. I bought it thinking I could have a reman engine installed & still had a great deal. Turned out one of the screws that hold down the distributor rotor came off & was rattling around the cap. I rebuilt the leaking carb & put 200k on before it got tee-boned.

👍 instant thumbs up for "Get Moar Chicks" 🤣 That sounded worse than the problem 😢 I personally experienced a GMC tensioner pulley leave the chat and the serpentine belt dropped on the road (subconctractor truck)
