The reason why I respect you as a poker vlogger is that you are 100% open and honest with everything. It is so easy to only show the good sides of poker and make it look like you're the best player in the world. But instead you show both the good and the bad. My cousin and I are both big fans. We hope to make it out to a meet up game this year. Best of luck bro!

Hey Brad. It's clear that big downswing in 2019 took a massive emotional toll on you. It's making you consider quitting poker, etc. As you said, you never intended to be a coach, even if your explanations happen to help some people learn. You are a poker player and vlogger. You are putting way too much pressure on yourself to be a "winner" so as not to let down the viewers who may look up to you and rely on your advice. This pressure and worry will only make you play worse. You have to let it go. Wild variance is a poker fact, like bad weather for an outdoor worker. It's inevitable, so accept it, let go, stop emotionally grinding on it, and focus only on the next hand. As you free mind space, your decisions and results will quickly improve. You have never encountered a run this bad, so this is a great learning and growth opportunity! Get stronger for next time!

Very well put Thor, you see it the same as me. Brad, I really respect your honesty in everything you do with this vlog, and it is such a priviledge to get to see the good, the bad, and the ugly of it. Many players consider the viability of playing for a living, and getting to see the real results of a very good player who does put the time and energy into it, gives them tools to consider whether it is for them. I think the biggest mentoring factor you do is what it is actually like to try and make decent money from poker, and its toll when things arent going well.

  • @johnsonhipona

I wanted to chime in as well. I'm sure you understand your situation. Thor and Zombieman is spot on. I really appreciate all that you (and Andrew) do for the vlog. It is a privilege to get a snap shot on what results and occurrences happen for someone playing poker for a living. It "helps us out a ton!" As Thor mentioned, don't grind on the results too much. Like I said, it's only a "snap shot" of a long career of playing for a living. I'm sure some of the greats (like Doyle or Chip) has years like this, but looking at the big picture, the came out ahead. Not to mention the time and effort you put out to make these vlogs. To be able to look back and literally reflect on what was done is priceless for you and others. If someone, 10 years from now, decides to binge watch your videos of your year playing, I think we all can agree, it's like having a Coach on our side giving us a glimpse of the good, the bad, and the ugly. "Experience is learning from your own mistakes. Wisdom is learning from other people's mistakes to make sure you don't make them on your own." I've learned so much watching and listening to your comments. It has improved my game drastically to the point I'm considering starting my own vlog if I do decide to grind for longer hours. So, Thank You, Brad! I appreciate you, brother. Rock On!!

Hey Brad, you’re a good guy and are good for the game for sure. I consider myself a pretty decent player but in all honesty I learned some moves from you and also picked up some more info on how other players think at the table hands that has been maybe the most valuable part to me. I wanted to let you know that you (and Andrew) are kind of as close to a coach as I will ever have. I appreciate what you do and hope that 2020 is your best year yet! I was glad to see Rounders my club was up there as a winning place for you; so come back and play again I would like to get in a game with you and would probably step up to 2/5 to play a bit with you and get owned, as you say “it’s good for the vlog” I hope 2020 is your best year yet.

Thanks for putting this up Brad. I feel like my '19 pretty much mirrored yours. Started the year very well for me, but the second half of the year was the worst downswing that I've ever been on in 7-8 years. Of course once I was 2-3 months into the downswing I magnified it by playing worse too. It's been very frustrating to say the least. Here's hoping this year is better for both of us.

I have been watching and commenting on your vlogs since the beginning (sometimes more critically than the average viewer, but it's all love). I have a full time job, but I play (mostly) 2/5 0-2 times per week. From when I started in the summer of 2018 till summer of 2019 I had played about 300 hours, cashed 70% of sessions, and was up over 8bb an hour, or about $14k. Since September I'm down $10k. It's been brutal. Did I forget how to play cards? I don't buy that. It's just been extended runbad. Wrong side of set over set, flush over flush, missed draw after missed draw, while opponents seem to get there nonstop. Look at it like the stock market. A dip is never forever. I like how you ended this video, very positive. Hold yourself to eating better, sleeping more, and drinking less. Keep playing your game. Keep finding good games to play in. Keep vlogging. Thanks man

this type of content is priceless. it helped me a lot when I had downswings. It takes a lot of hard work and self-reflection to put up your A or at least B-game when things are not going well. But actually this is where you can have the biggest edge against other players who face the same problems. Also i think drinking at the tables can lead to bad preflop decisions which than leads to being on the wrong side of a cooler more often. Not to mention the effect on health. As for working on your habbits I highly recommend "Atomic Habits" by James Clear! Hope you read this.

I really appreciate you showing the numbers honestly. It really demonstrates that you have to really decide certain things at moments like this. When you go through your run down and discover you made less than $2/hour for the year, you start asking yourself very important questions that could shape the rest of your life. So to write this comment a year after this video aired, it's very refreshing seeing that you've made, what I would imagine is a decently successful career, out of this is a very inspirational story. Many others, myself included, would've hung up the towel after an annual report like this. That being said, I'm glad you're succeeding in your dream, and I'm grateful for the content so I get to witness these experiences without having to wager my own bank account. Best of luck to you in the future. (Though, let's be honest. We all remember that poker isn't about luck; "it's a skill game Jo!")

You’re my favorite poker vlogger and have the best poker vlog out there. Thanks for sharing your stats/hands and for always showing such honesty, integrity, and good-natured fun in playing the game. I hope to make it to a meet-up game in 2020 but I won’t go after your Bradley dollars lol

I'm glad you posted this, Brad. I'm also a professional player, and I had a decent year in 2019 ... until I got to December. December wrecked me on the felt and left my bankroll quite a bit shallower than it was when I ended November. And this month, I've only broken even so far, so it looks like I'm going to have two months in a row where I slide backward financially. It just hasn't mattered when I get the money in. If I'm ahead, I'm not by the river. If I'm behind, I never catch up. If I have a world draw, I always miss. It makes me feel better to see videos like this, and knowing that people who have been at the grind longer than I have also have bad runs. Thanks.

Brad I'm sure you already know but balance and discipline is something that goes with a successful poker player. Stay healthy, limit your travelling, drink less alcohol keep your poker game on point. I love you man don't let this bad year bring you down and don't be too hard on yourself.

Hey, Brad. I'm a long time fan, and I remember feeling for you when the shit hit the fan. But you are SO right to say that's how games of luck and skill go. You'll rebound, and I look forward to all the success that we've seen so far this year!

I watched it all. Thanks for the candid insight into the world of a "poker star"! The variance in poker is often maddening, yet its what keeps the pond stocked with fish.

Brad, thanks for all the great content this past year. Def is a lot of extra work while trying to play poker. Appreciate your transparency. And like you said, being honest with yourself is the only true way to measure, set goals, learn and make progress. Your vids are very entertaining and I also learn from them too. So, thank you! I grind for a living in the Midwest. Hard Rock Cincinnati is home. Lets make 2020 a great year together!

Downswings are mentally tough at the best of times, but sharing your losses must be extremely hard to cope with. Well done for being so honest, glad its turned around for you.

Greetings from Athens, mate you have this. Continue your great job be very disciplined that is the key. Remember we always have many falls but you have to stand up and just get stronger. In a couple of years you might see that year and laugh and even if you lost, you have learned so many things. Never give up, continue with discipline and of course a lot of content for us :)
