Not so sure why you're so worried about being part English? The English are themselves a blend of five or six ethnic groups. I'm slightly more than half Germanic, an eight of myself Swiss (Mennonite). The rest 23&Me lists as British isles, lumping GB and Ireland together. They also show the counties within highest correlations, and that shows up highest in London, Glasgow, and everywhere in Ireland. People just came to the U.S. and fell in love. Thankfully, I've no slavers in my ancestry (so far as genealogy shows). That is my only dread. Meanwhile, I've got a sliver each (~1%) of Native American and African. I also have a few alleles from all around the world, including East and South Asia, and North Africa. Love really does make the world go 'round.

Nothing wrong with being English, I'm Irish and have had less hassle from them than parts of Scotland or Wales. The North East is actually a Scandinavian hub in England. A lot of Vikings settled there. It would make sense for a good fraction of your DNA to come from Scandinavia. As for the Irish/Scottish/Welsh, it's probably referring to general Brittonic Celt ancestry. The North East was relatively free from Anglo-Saxon influence, unlike the South East and East Anglia. Those two places are where most of the West Germanic influence comes from. Scholars and 'experts' will try to say that British Isles DNA comes from all sorts of places and try to make it complicated; when you look at who settled where, the results provided there's no skewing from other influences are pretty much common sense.

Black Irish more likely originally referred to Irish on the west of Ireland. The link to Spanish Armada can be traced back to writings of Victorian anthropologists in the late 19th century. Extremely unlikely any Spanish settled, there's no evidence of Spanish speakers being around for more than a few weeks after the ships stranded, they either drowned trying to sail back to Spain or were murdered.

Many of the survivors just settled in Ireland, finding allies in the local Catholic population.

Amanda Navarra - Ancestry and MyHeritage lump Irish, Scottish, and Welsh together as one group, so if there's no Irish in your family history and your family has been in the U.S. that long, it's probably Scottish or Welsh, or even English near the border(s). That's interesting! It probably does represent Scottish DNA, as many in southern Scotland do have Anglo-Saxon ancestry, with the northernwestern parts being more Gaelic/Irish, and I'm sure plenty of mixing in between.

Might do the DNA test I believe I have a lot of Irish blood in me. But it might be from the wrong side of the silly political divide. That said I am and always will 100% European and will always consider myself so.

Fun fact: when Englishmen marry outside our ethnicity, most marry Irish women. England has Irish blood

That's funny, I'm English and was like: "Please don't be Irish, please don't be Irish." I wasn't so lucky, I'm 52% Irish, lol. It linked me to a small region in Northwest Ireland, just beneath the border with Northern Ireland. Not sure how accurate that is but I'm coming to terms with it. I guess I'll learn to embrace my Irish roots. :)

I took the 23 and me DNA test and all my life I was told I was a quarter Cherokee Indian, English, Black Dutch, Scottish and Irish, well I'm, I'm like 50% European 48.4% Irish and the rest Black Dutch but the Indian skip me completely (my papaw is half Indian) Ireland is the one place I always wanted to go since I was little. I have over 3000 relatives across seas
