This week TheCarGuys swap their beloved 911 Carrera T for a menacing all black Porsche 911 GT3 Touring.
Is this the greatest Porsche 911 ever? Will they regret selling the T and just buy it straight back again? Can Damian possibly ever get over the fact that he did not spec this car, and Porsche did not sell one to him? All these questions and more are answered in this week’s episode.
Created by two ordinary guys with an obsession for cars, TheCarGuys.tv is a digital channel that celebrates everything automotive - supercars, classics, quirky, hidden gems and those in the TCG garage.

The GT3 Touring might very well be the best drivers car on the road right now. The car is nothing short of remarkable. The engine and 6sp manual gearbox alone are worth the price of admission. Without question, you made the right choice.

I am fortunate to own a GT3 Touring. I picked it up at the factory and drove 5500 km through Europe including the Stelvio and other Italian / Austrian alps. In all that driving we realized that a lot of the noise is really "road noise" and depends on the road you are on. In Germany and Austria for example we could listen to music without problem but once we crossed into Italy, we couldn't. The road noise was too much and became a bit uncomfortable. Also, we were told that the reason the GT3 don't have parking sensors is that the material that the bumpers are made of could not reliably have them installed in them. The bumpers are made of a very light material (not plastic). I hope you enjoy your car. Good decision!!

Useful info here, Dynasys Corporation, or may I call you Dynasys? You're not the first to mention the road noise of the Touring. I'm going to spend a bit of next over the next few months looking into this. Great to hear you driving yours properly.

@@TheCarGuysTV This may not help but I mention anyway since there is a chance it will. I had a 2011 c4s that I loved except it was loud. Turns out much of the volume was tire "roar" due to the wide tires and the compound from which they were made. You might want to look into whether there is a quieter tire for your car. It may help if tire noise is a significant contributor.

Congratulations sir! Incredibly jealous of you as I was eyeballing this dreamcar of mine on autotrader for months (despite being a university student). I believe your Touring appeared on Redline Specialist Cars too. I love the mechanical sounds you hear from the inside as it really does replicate the air-cooled 911s in that aspect. Its cheeky that Porsche UK won't give many allocations for their GT cars. As a more road-biased 911, I prefer those seats too over the carbon buckets you find on 918 spyder and GT2RS etc. Also the non carbon ceramic brakes are probably a more wiser choice as they won't cost so much to replace them over the years. Black is the colour i'd go for too as Porsche UK won't allow customers to spec it in a PTS colour of their choice but if the opportunity was given, it would have to be either Viola Metallic or Irish Green for me.

  • @Joe_Cribben

    @Joe_Cribben

    5 жыл бұрын

People just draw up contracts to sell the car and keep it registered in their name until the cool off period. The best solution I can think of would be for Porsche to just build way more cars so there isn't as big market for this. Lots of places in Europe had no shortage of GT3 allocations and the cars depreciate as normal.

We got lucky with a GT4 and couldn't get a GT3, they only allocate cars to their newest customers who repeatedly sell cars back through the dealer is what they told me. Long term loyalty doesn't mean anything but if you trade in your cayenne every 6 months you can have whatever you want. Find the model that depreciates the least and play their game.

After having a series of Porsche over the years including Boxsters, 996 C4S, 997 GTS and my current 991.1 GTS I too wanted an allocation but didn’t get one, although my local dealer allocated to a non serial Porsche enthusiast who has subsequently sold it back to the dealer. The whole allocation system is broken, I’ve written to Porsche Uk who don’t care. Anyway I will carry on enjoying my GTS for time being and seeing the GT3 prices (not Touring) are coming off as enthusiasts refuse to pay the premiums. Your Touring is stunning and I’m glad it’s gone to someone who can clearly drive , is an enthusiast and intends to enjoy it the way it was designed to be.

I own personally own a 2016 991.1 GTS. Great car and plenty of power (430hp) for California roads. And the ride is more complacent and quitter of road noise in the cabin than GT3 and GT3 RS. Also, you don't see much of them for sale here in California compare to other 991 models. What does that tell you. But in a perfect world I would have all their models. :) lol

Congrats guys ! , that really is a lovely thing, you can hear the difference between both cars on the audio, no question that was the right thing to do. I remember when Hexagon used to sell micro mileage BMW M cars, for huge amounts of money a few years back, in fact Henry Catchpole ( Carfection ) did a vlog from there a few months back. The 911 is the only car I would sell my M3 for , but the desirable used ones are well out my financial reach. I am just waiting for you to swallow a brave pill and swap it for a micro mileage GT2 RS...... you know you want to. !! . I am well aware they now cost the same as Zimbabwe 's national debt though.

If I couldn't get a car that I wanted I would look elsewhere, plenty of bloody good cars out there these days. Anyway enjoy the GT3 and keep up the good work with the video's.

Great video Damian and Jason. It was very open to talk about your negative feelings about the brand. As someone who has their first Porsche, I would love the next GT4 but again, my current car wasn’t from a main dealer. Really disappointing to see the flipped cars and not amazing cars being sold to genuine enthusiasts. Hope to get to see the Touring soon. Shame about the spec compromise you had to make and hope you can learn to love this car in the collection as much as ones you’ve specced yourself. P.S. the full black Batman spec car nicely matched your wrist 🤪

Thanks, James. I think it's important to put your feelings about such things out there and not sanitise them for fear of upsetting the company. Unlike many other YTbers I'm not trying to keep Porsche sweet so that I can get another loan car. I'm a customer - just like you, and I don't think what's happening is fair. I know it doesn't listen, but the whole point of the CarGuys is that we're honest about our cars. If we're annoyed, we'll show it. If we're ecstatic, you'll see that too. PS - nice observation

Strange how some people specced Tourings - some don’t even have LEDs, Bose, or leather dash pack as you mention! There aren’t many people who have owned both a T and a Touring. Quite a few people had locked in their GT3 spec before the Touring was even announced, which has limited numbers too.

great content guys ive been following you guys for a bit now all the way from Canada . clearly i am to late for the 991.2 and way out of by budget on the secondary market...but i am hopeful for the 992 GT3 and that's why i started the process already...so initially i went to the dealership spoke to a sales guy..clearly tried to 🤬 me arround saying you got to have previously owned other cars bring business to the dealership put down a down payment " eventhough the car is years away" so took the info and went home called my Audi guy "both dealerships are owned by the same family " and said i want to get into the Porsche market and i want a GT3...he is the GM at Audi and replaced the previous GM who went to work at Porsche ...so he sent a introduction email and I met the GM at Porsche..it was like going for a job interview ...he was really interested to know what i wanted to do with the Car and what kind of business i have done with the business and how they really want to try to eliminate selling to people that would just flip the car or send it to China..that was a bit stresser ..apparently most of them end up in China.. I said this would be my second vehicle for summer fun and occasional track days i would still keep my audi for winter and daily driving and carting my toddler arround...then he said ok, well to be honest i am the one who decides who gets a car yes there are some guys that have done business with us for decades and these people they get what ever they want... we dont need a deposit that's silly but keep an eye on porsche news and register for a porsche account so you get notifications of porsche news and events ...when the car get unveiled a couple days after that its available into our system and then i will call you to come in and spec one out and we will take a deposit then and only then....so i am hopeful.....and ive sent him random emails about questions on posible specs and he has answered every one of them..

best choice u could have done. lovely stealth spec too on the gt3. that’s a car u have to keep for a long long time. personal taste: I don’t like red brake calipers, I would respray or wrap them in black

I know you have got the car to keep, but if you are buying a car to flip like the first owner, the best spec for flipping is the launch colour (or black for wrapping another colour) black interior the highest spec if Alcantara is an option then go for that and then every other option there is available and nothing weird like weird colour dials!

On the track maybe but it's not suited as a road car. I would have kept the "T" and left the rest in the bank FWIW. IMO no car is worth that much over list.

I know of a gent local to me who currently has a new gt2 rs, 911 r and 911 turbo exclusive. He also just recently sold his 918 . I guess he is on the guest list with Porsche. I like your new purchase, although I don't like black cars and think it would look nicer in a more extreme colour , but that's just me. Crazy what these cars go for above list now, making them quick flips for the super rich. Real car guys like yourself who can afford it made to pay way over the odds. Of course being a ltd 911 it's only going to go up in value. Really enjoyed the video.

I have not driven a T but own a Touring. I agree. It might not have the wings but it is raw. Not sure I would want to drive to the Alps in it but would like to try! The subtlety of the design/look is so appealing. To those in the 'know' it says it all. To those not, just another (manic) 911.

I vowed never to buy another Porsche after not getting a GT3 allocation from my dealer (in spite of buying 12 new Porsches over the last 30 years), but I succumbed and paid a 30 grand premium for a car with 298 miles on it. Its a pity that Porsche sells its cars to the "flippers" instead of long term loyal customers. having said all that, I love my GT3!

Nice car, glad for you that you can afford it. Look forward to future videos ..... especially versus the 488 Pista? Very much agree with your rant at the start of the video Damian. Clear that you like cars and wanted that car in that specification, and would probably not flip-it. Then both your local friendly dealer sell their allocation to a flipper, and you have to pay a T-sized premium to buy the car you want from a profit-making flipper. And yet, as you say, no customer-credit from Porsche - that's crazy! VinWiki did a video on how to create limited edition quodos with a dealer (I'm sure you are doing all that and attending their events), but you have to spend $1million+ on cars and a similar amount on extras/special paint to be assured of allocation. But its pretty obvious that Porsche are further restricting such model numbers, as well as creating a lot of sub-niche cars (too many?). That might be working in the UK, but Schmee's latest video suggests the business model doesn't work in Europe - larger left hand drive market, allocations swapping between dealers (I assume for proifit), and hence spare and available allocation at purchase, and normal-styles of depreciation on the seciond hand market. Keep vlogging guys - very much enjoy the channel.

Thanks for your praise, Ian. I think this may be the last car I ever buy for significantly over the sticker price. I'm just not interested in playing the game, and I'm not sure future cars will be attractive. I will be buying the best from some of the back catalogues, but not new ones. This whole affair has left me very annoyed. I don't think Tim (Shmee's) method didn;t work - he got a car for list price and perhaps lost a little selling it with 11km on the clock. He didn't make any, but in the bigger picture he didn't pay a lot for it either. I'd say he was ahead, but I'm surprised he didn't keep the car.
