Drove from Memphis to Conway to check out Retro Rick's gamepoint. In all honesty I looked for 2 hours, couldn't find anything that wasn't 5%-10% over market value. Kinda hurt to leave with nothing. Through his videos I thought he was all about supporting the retro gaming community/scene but he is clearly more about the profit. Anyone can watch his videos and tell.

Not really hard, Rick cares more about youtube than running his own store, what a fraud.

A hybrid drive or SSHD was a hard drive with flash memory inside . You could get them in larger sizes and they were reasonably priced compared to the same sized SSDs . Performance was faster than a standard HDD , but not as fast as an SSD .

@@charliesretrocomputingI think Lenovo makes their ideapad 1 line with that type of drive it’s a pretty limiting laptop though since while it has an option for 20 gigs of ram and a terabyte drive its processor is a intel Celeron

Yeah, SSHDs were a thing about a ~decade ago when SSDs were still somewhat expensive (at least in larger capacities) so a SSHD was a good compromise between performance and capacity. Pretty reasonable choice for a console drive.

@@RuruFIN Absolutely . SSDs of the maximum size are always at a premium pricepoint that most people don't want to pay and when SSHDs came out most people couldn't afford a 1 or 2TB SSD . The SSHD was a popular swap for the Xbox One and PS4 .

I live in Conway, and I used to go to there when they were just Game Point, and if you're looking for new stuff it's not the store for you, but if you're looking for retro stuff, this stuff is for you

I also live in Conway and frequent Game Point. It's a nice store overall. Shame he wasn't able to talk to Rick himself. Rick is there quite often and runs the till alot . Pretty chill guy

Usually, these places make it a little bit high to help with the bills they have to deal with, like the workforce they need. It's usually pretty understandable, in my opinion. I'm not gonna lie. That place looks cool, and the stuff looks good.

I purchased the Dreamcast on day one with three controllers and I remember the sticks were stiff when new. You got a really good controller there. Probably someone’s spare they rarely if ever used.

He should have someone. With all the money he shows himself wasting on nonsense, I don't know how you don't have a single person employed to just open consoles and blow them out with canned air and wipe off the insides. Imagine charging the inflated prices he does and selling a console that's full of dust bunnies, roaches or spider webs. $140 for a Dreamcast tossed in a generic box and nobody could be bothered to take 5 minutes and even wipe out around where you put the disc. Not even talking about completely opening the console to clean it, but just pop the lid and wipe the grime out of the disc tray with a wet wipe. LOL! Especially having a store as flashy as he does and marketing himself as a high-end retro store.

@@Jayrr Just because it’s your money doesn’t make it right. You should have more pride in your business than that and anyone that thinks otherwise has clearly never owned a business before. Not saying it’s bad as I actually relatively like the place but a basic wipe down is such a simple thing to do. Just to be clear, I wasn’t talking about the price.

Honestly in 2024 any store selling cartridge games should throw in a free handful of q-tips and a condiment cup of IPA because the game/system could go from working to non working in the time it takes you to get home.

There’s definitely something to be said for overpaying for the garbage DK Oldies sends out, and then overpaying for something at Retro Rick’s. You are getting the experience at Retro Rick’s, and the quality of stuff they are selling IMO is worth it, not to mention you’re helping a local business and not some big corporation. It’s obvious Rick loves what he does. It’s worth paying up a little for all that.

Really interesting to see this video and your perspective of the store, I’m actually thinking of flying out from the UK to go there so it was good to hear what you thought. I had a Dreamcast back in the late 90’s and I do remember the controllers being firmer at first and then loosening after some use, so from that I would say that controller you got had very little use if any. I also have an Xbox one elite (with the controller) and I thought you got it for a good price 😊👍

You got LUCKY with that Dreamcast. I have NOT had it happen to me but they are well known for having the fuse on the controller board blow out if you plug a pad in while it is powered on or change the pad while it is on.

Dreamcast analog sticks are definitely tighter on new controllers. Like most controllers, they loosen way up over time.

I know people are complaining about the pricing, but the stuff you bought from there looks awesome. If it looked like that if I bought that, then I wouldn’t have a problem buying all of that.

That place is insane. I live in Fayetteville and hit up Game Point on the way down to Little Rock every time!

Word of warning on the Dreamcast. The controller ports are very tempremantal and prone to blowing if you plug controllers into it while the console is turned on.

$80 for a Gameboy Color and some battery corrosion is crazy. They definitely need to clean that next time if they are charging $80. And I get it. Yes I know it's a game store so you do have over head and stuff like that. But $80 is definitely a little above market value and there isn't anything refurbished or even cleaned in the battery compartment

To be fair. It probably had exploded batteries and was completely gored with alkaline chunks. Stack of 600 games and consoles to clean today. Clean a GBC to 90% better and now working. Bank on the fact that the buyer can literally open it up and look at it in the store before they buy it, with a return policy. Gets comments like yours anyways. 😂

On the warranty system: Warranty is only valid for NEW items' first couple of years (or for how long the company gives warranty, usually 2-10 years, depending on item/service). USED items sold by any store are NOT required to give warranty, but most shops do give up to 1y warranty to keep the customer happy (i run a small repair service on the side, so not actually registered with the state, and i still give people 6m "warranty" if it's the same defect). But don't quote me on this universally, cause that's just how it works in my country...

The hybrid drives are half mechanical half SSD.

Was the texas load logo shown at the beginning of the video?

I have a couple of those Game Boy color holders with the lanyards on them, i paid 10 dollars each on EBAY i have the clear ones about 3 of them.

Wow, Retro Rick's is a Retro DISASTER! I wouldn't spend a dime there.

Personally with my experience some new Dreamcast controllers. Some were more stiff than others. But usually would break in over time and get looser. But usually never had any problems with the analog stick. The Hall effect analog stick can be different between controllers though.

Help me understand something. This video series is of you traveling from North Carolina to Texas and along the way you stop at various locations picking up gaming systems. Why then do you initially review your purchases in the same cheap hotel? Are you trying to say you only stopped once in a hotel (motel) on your trip?

I live little over an hour from that store!

I had a hybrid drive on my laptop back in 2011. It's a platter hard disk, and has an SSD basically incorporated into the board. I think mine was 512 GB, with a 128 GB SSD (not to increase the size of the disk to 740 GB, but to mirror the highest access files or increase boot speed). I have no idea how it "knew" which files to cache and read from the SSD, though. Everything was controlled by the drive itself rather than a driver. Honestly they could have completely lied about it and I would never be able to test it.

For a second there, I thought Jacob was Al Bladez at the beginning of the video with his hat on forward. Not used to him wearing his hat forward.

Dreamcast had the original Crazy Taxi one of my favorite games of all time. So I've been teetering on the edge of buying Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, FF III, Secret of Mana. All for Super Nintendo. But these are not cheap. Chrono trigger is like 100 just for the cartridge.

So funny he takes great pride in how much the clean/resurface every disc put em in new cases but doesn't dust a dreamcast for 140..... definitely higher than I can get in my area... that price should be spotless... especially having employees... idk my opinion.... also big youtubers get so much inventory from groupies stuff should be on the lower end of pricing and pay higher than the 30% most stores pay. I pay minimum of 50% big tubers should aways pay 60% or higher if they are selling things high and extremely high on whatnot

The dreamcast controlers were abit of a hit or miss some of them were more stif others more soft and some with difects on the D pad. I bought one new. With a keyboard,4 controlers and an arcade stick. And one of the 3 controlers was kind diferent it felt worst turning claire in resident evil code Veronica. Good times.

I thought the condition of the Dreamcast should have been a little better to be honest. Yes it’s not refurbished but it probably should have been fully cleaned. Plus the gameboy game and system probably needed a bit more of a clean too. I watch retro Rick’s channel and also double jump video games also. Seems like double jump do a better job on the cleaning side of it.

You're still making money if they charged an actual fair price. The big game store near me does market value prices. They don't go above it like this place. Also when they buy games they pay about 40 percent of market value. This place is a scam. Also the owner is an absolute tool.
