I've used AOCS countless times and I would NOT reccomend it until they fix the problems it havem they have a point system that says if you buy a certain number of things, you get extra benefits, except those extra benefits were never seen or heard from, they also have absolutely terrible customer service. Yes it's cheaper than tenso, but the bad parts of it still outweigh the good

I think this video captures exactly why it's a shame that these kind of shops are disappearing. the "oh this looks interesting" and the "oh I just noticed this and this." The little discoveries by browsing which you don't get in an online shop. I do need a list of all the artist/mange names of this episode to look them up because.... whoaw that are a lot.

I'm sure another location will pop up somewhere. Land lease like these expire from time to time. It's like every time a part of Kabukicho is "supposedly" being torn down, they claim they are cleaning up for public image but really it's just change in land lease and or update building out of "construction" code. There not cleaning anything up the same tenants come right back again. Just political optics.

I love a good physical copy of an album I like, and I'm also a KPOP fan so there's some more incentive to buy their albums, as they come with cool fan content like posters and photocards. The thing I wonder is why, is it got to do with online shopping becoming more prominent also never been to Japan but something is happening similar here in America and it Makes me sad because I feel like Amazon and many of those other companies is killing off the free market making even harder to actually shop in person not only that but it eliminates the competition and I feel like there should be protection acts against these online companies to force them to comply with the free market better and protect small businesses or physical businesses from closing also adding a bill were you can only purchase phones and laptops between the ages of 16 and up to help circumvent physical stores from closing not sure if this is a bad idea or what but honestly I see online as more of ruining culture and ruining social interaction with physical stores going away its going to cause the the world to get worse. Okay what I mean by that Is because there wont be any physical stores i feel like it will more then likely harm the people who work at those places as well as harm the economy as whole because soon everyone will have no other choice to buy online and there be very few places to physically shop I like going in person even though my anxiety is extremely bad. I just see this as becoming more of problem then solving the problem not to mention those who refuse to use online who dont like the online market but I'm hoping that Japan doesn't end up having a massive problem like that like were starting here in America so hopefully there be some law passed that balances online shopping and physical shopping like a protection act not sure again this could be viewed as bad but still it does co concern me hate seeing stores close sadly. [Edit ignore the bad grammar I sometimes mess up when typing long paragraphs on phones so If I made any grammar mistakes apologizes]

I'm definitely with you on CDs. I hesitate to call myself a music snob, but let's be honest- that is exactly what other people would call me. Like you, I am huge fan of Sigur Rós and other post rock/progressive rock bands like Pelican, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and The Devin Townsend Project. I buy vinyls almost exclusively, and I will only buy CDs if it is a collector's item and/or signed by the artist. Those CDs never see any use. They just sit on a shelf as a display piece. If I am going to listen to the music, I do so on vinyl or online. Hella jealous of that Mori Calliope vinyl, by the way, especially since you have the chance to get it signed IRL! I am also sad to hear this store is closing its doors. It seems like an incredible place! If I ever have a chance to visit Japan in the near future, Akihabara is definitely on my list of stops!

Each book is "only" 500-1500 yen (unless you're buying used and rare doujins), but it adds up pretty quick! Holy crap, you were able to go to the physical store before they closed! Lucky you, Joey and thanks for sharing the visit. I definitely still buy CDs when I can, especially older albums, and regularly will import from Japan soundtracks for games and some anime. Given how much more I can buy now with the USD being hella strong, I've been doing that a bit more lately (along with some doujins). Also, yeah, doujin manga can quickly add up. I've gone into anime convention merchant alleys looking to just buy $300 worth, and ended up buying up to $600 worth by the end of the last convention I attended a month before the Beer Bug™️ came through. Even now, it can be daunting just ordering online. Spent $300 on C100 doujins last month when I was looking to spend $150 LOL.

Great video as always Joey! Now, little bit off-topic about the value of the Yen: Unless this video was filmed in January or February 2022, Joey actually spent closer to $700 (675) than $1000 in this video. At first I believed the title because Yen's value is usually 1/100th of US Dollar but when the total amount was shown at the end (¥97,064), I was shocked to learn that the value of JPY has PLUNGED hard against the USD in the last 6 months (the current dip started in March 2022). Idk the reason for the fall (it can't be the pandemic because Yen was still hovering around 0.008-0.01 USD until March 2022) but Yen is currently pretty weak against the dollar.
