@@rockstermaniac I usually end up on this comps team because I'll go Mercy to DB our Soldier in case there's an Echo or Pharah, and then I see the other DPS is a Reaper and our second Support will just lock Lucio. And for some reason, it never works on my team, I usually end up swapping to Ana or Bap after the first 2 push attempts going nowhere.

@@agentmaryland1239 yeah as someone who mains both tank and support in equal measures I can tell you what the problem is. Your soldier/pharah/etc. def wants the DB and appreciates it but the problem is your main tanks usually need some sort of assurance in their minds that if they take an aggressive action they won't immediately die for it. So what happens when the other support instalocks lucio is your main tank gets blown up once and instantly loses all confidence. It doesnt matter how good your soldier/pharah/etc. is if they can't get past a choke point to get a sightline then all they have to shoot at is shields. The enemy team has to have the most inept tanks in the world not to hold ground and just win every fight where you dont have an overwhelming ult advantage. There are some tank comps that can sort of compensate for this... in fact Ball and Chain is mostly designed around making up for weaker support lines. But below a certain level of skill the moment your tanks stop playing with a shield the DPS lose confidence and start playing farther back. So it becomes a vicious cycle where half the team isn't playing the game at any given time. The reason it sometimes works in bronze though is... bronze tank players are in fact inept and the non smurf dps arnt good enough to make players pay for being out in the open so everyone can push with some level of confidence and the guaranteed healing of lucio mercy wins the day since its constant and requires no real skill to utilize. As a tank player above a certain level the only thing I've found that sort of pulls the comp together is to compromise and run sigma since his kit allows for both shielding and massive absorb of damage while also having a useful stun that can slow the enemy tanks. But it only works for as long as the enemy tanks play scared. If they select for example rein zarya and just hold down W the whole thing falls apart.

That comp is the "deathmatch with extra steps"

this really is the ''2022 overwatch experience''. respawn simulator, people having no idea of what is happening, more Q's pressed=win, the only difference is the gameplay speed where the higher you go the faster the fights ends

it's because rather than positioning themselves for the shatter beforehand, they press Q mindlessly as soon as they have it, then realise everything they put on the ground is too far away to hit so they charge to close the gap, without realising that it nullifies the point of shattering anything if you're just gonna boop it all away from where your team is supposed to be looking to kill it

Below diamond is a bit harsh on alot of plat & gold players. There's plenty of players with good to great game sense in to know how to use shatters effectively, but just have really terrible aiming mechanics and decision making and other flaws that prevent them from going further. (Myself included)

As a bronze player, I can confirm that the current vibe for tanks is boredom and confusion. For supports, it's constant stress and either being blamed or feeling at fault for what goes wrong.

Fr. Tanks at low ranks don't push, give up space freely to the enemy team, never threaten or apply any pressure...even as a tank player who tries to do those things, you can't rely on your healers to even attempt to keep you alive most of the time, because they play like weak DPS players instead of supports. It's why I like Ball and Hog. You don't have to rely as much on your team to do stuff. The downside of course is that no matter how much pressure you put on the enemy team, if the rest of your team are flopping around like a bunch of wet noodles, you're not gonna get anywhere.

All 3 roles are the problem. anyone who thinks "my rank is someone elses problem" is copium. Tanks dont create space, push the cart, or even defend allies. Dps just pick their favorite character even if they cant do 1k damage in a 5 minute game. Supports panic and just run in a circle when an enemy comes near them, or they just DONT HEAL the team. Stop blaming shit on other people its why youre bronze.

@@commandercorner5575 Picking the right characters will help you climb if you genuinely are having the "team diff" problem. Playing characters that rely on your entire team to work is not going to help you climb. Bronze lucio players for example: You are literally rolling the dice on your win based off your team. All 3 roles are stupid as shit in bronze. You see oversaturation of characters like dva, widowmaker, lucio, genji being played by players who might as well be playing on a trakpad. Why not just play junkrat, or torbjorn, or something you KNOW you can do damage on. Its genuinely baffling to me that people can just queue for game after game after game and have 0 influence in their match and continue to enjoy the game. even at higher ranks now, the tank to dps skillgap at the same rank is so huge its not worth playing. Old low gold players are being matched with actual diamond+ tanks and you just dont get to enjoy the game. I think its funny how everyone shit on OW2 but nobody can go back to OW1 after the barebones OW2 Alpha. > Because you need less team coordination, individual tanks decide the play instead of arguing with your braindead flanking orisa, healers dont feel like they are trapped in a box with a lion every time they get attacked, and having one less tank makes DPS Actually get to deal damage to characters instead of being tasked with shieldbreak 3/4ths of the game.

Lower rank players hold close to choke because it causes the enemy team to tunnel vision into trying to brute force their way through one specific spot. If you hold back, that opens up multiple paths to the point and multiple high ground opportunities. Lower rank players don't have the ability to deal with people coming from multiple directions and easily get overwhelmed and then eventually just obliterated. All it takes is one flanking Cass to flashfan your support and you're done.

As a high bronze/silver tank - Yes. This is the tank experience. Prolonged/individual/almost no team fights. Trickling. Random ults being used (even after the fight is lost). Not switching heroes to counter. Comps that make ZERO sense.

every time I see a video about shitty bronze matches I panic thinking I'm gonna be in it and every time there isn't any of my mains I take a giant ass sigh of relief

For real in bronze (especially quickplay) it is literally impossible to get your team to hold anywhere but the choke or directly infront of enemy spawn 😅. Doesn't matter if you're spamming group up in a better location. Doesn't matter if you have a Mic and explain the benefits. Your team will sit right on choke. Also I'm convinced everyone is scared of heights because only widow uses high ground. Ah well you just do what you can i suppose 🤷‍♂️

A big brain move in low level comp is to use Mei wall at spawn to keep teammates from trickling in so you are forced to regroup.

Whenever I feel like my team is doing a bad move I try to make them retreat because of that feeling of "something bad WILL happen, but eventually I give up and join the hive mind, because fuck it, might as well have some fun amidst the chaos too

The only decent reason I've heard from anyone why I shouldn't perma-swing is because of the sound giving away our position of we're attempting something cheeky. Aside from that 1 instance, I swing.

Same, when I’m looking for a flank shatter I just crouch and walk. Rein isn’t meant to be sneaky so it doesn’t matter elsewhere

This looks like every game i have in silver, I get burnt out after 1 or 2 games because its so utterly boring

This reminds me of the dreams where you try to run but you’re stuck in place.

I’ve tried to get a super low rank purposely to play with my silver skilled friends. My god it’s actually impossible to get that low of a rank purposely. You have to go against every possible natural instinct lol . you have to jump in without your team and face tank reaper shots.

This exact same comp I saw in Diamond yesterday, no joke. It's literally the "I'm a one trick" comp.

"Yeah im also scared of sniper reaper." "sniper reaper real fucking scary." now youre laughing, but wait until he actually snipes you. Chance's low, but still exists..

I unironically sometimes go sniper reaper on some maps just because I know I'm annoying the enemy team and distracting them from my team, I do this with every character, people can't help but look at what is tickling their health bar

10 seconds into the video, I see the "I don't trust a single one of you" comp and I am here for it. I was in bronze two seasons ago and the number of times I have seen rein with mercy-lucio is painful.

@@iviimoth Mercy isn't a main healer. Her utility is damage boost. Lucio gives speed boost and also doesn't have to always be with the team. Basically this healing comp means one or both healers are going to have to spend more time providing their rather meager heals and not utilizing their actual power/reason to be played. Ftr I main Mercy. This healing comp can work, but both supports have to be pretty good, and the rest of the team can't expect more healing than can be provided. If a Mercy isn't damage boosting, she shouldn't be on Mercy. Lucio at least can provide other things while on heal aura, but yeah. Mercy/Zen at least means your team is going to have even more amplified damage. Mercy/Lucio is a healing comp that doesn't have any synergy or reason. Again, it can work, but that doesn't mean it's fundamentally good.

@@iviimoth mercy lucio is pretty bad. It has very low heals per second (Mercy does 50 per second and lucio only does 16) and should only really be played with high self-sustain comps (hog, ball, soldier etc). Reins generally need a lot of healing so lucio mercy will force tanks to play far more passively. For comparison, ana has 70 heals per second (more than both lucio and mercy combined)

Another issue with Mercy in low elo is that they spend 95% of their time yellow beaming a full health Rein or Hog, with the occasional rez, but essentially getting no value. In most instances there is a hitscan on the team or Pharah, a character that would help the Mercy get more value, but players in low elo don’t seem to understand that keeping yellow beam on a tank does nothing for them. If anything it frustrates their teammates. EDIT: Mercy specializes in helping one person, while Lucio can heal multiple with his heal song. Mercy also is best in slower comps, while Lucio promotes a rush comp and faster tempo/gameplay

@@karamei well zen is vulnerable to dive, I feel like mercy Lucio can get out of a lot of situations. Though Moira could also work well for that I guess. As I climb though I find the dps are Getting better at flanking and it can be hard to get away. I main ana and Rein Ana has sleep but I don't have a mic, so they usually just wait it out. I can kill most dps myself but I'm screwed against tanks, a good tracer or even a flanking Moira.

When I first started playing the game I got placed in silver on dps, didn't care about my DPS rank and later on used my DPS to try to teach a friend how to play. In me teaching him how to play and taking a lot of losses learning, I dropped to probably about 1200 or so. I thought it's no big deal. I don't belong here. I'll climb out. Except, I ran into the problems many people are describing. Tanks don't tank. Supports don't heal. Tanks giving up space for free and not playing scared. Supports playing like weak DPS characters. It was chaos. I was borderline plat on support and I honestly felt like I was playing a completely different game. It was like the wild wild west down there. Dropped from 1200 to about 830. One thing really helped me start to climb. I am a rager. I get mad and rage. I often yell and blame others. One day I realized that even if I'm right, they're here, in these 800 games, with me, because they belong here. If they knew how to win, they would. Anything I want done, I have to do it myself. Any time we lose, it doesn't mean my team threw, it means I didn't carry hard enough. I didn't do enough to win. If I want to win, I have to be the difference maker. I can't rely on nobody to lead me there. Since then I climbed from 830 to 1830 as of an hour ago. Still not great, but I'm slowly getting better every season. It's still a grind, I still get mad, but I really try to blame myself first. Abd sometimes my teams are just really bad, or really selfish. I'll just make it up next game.

My pride was hurt in OW 2 when I placed in silver for support. I went from gold to high plat in OW1 (I know, metal ranks are all dog shit anyway who cares). So it really hurt my ego. I had to do what you did and start realizing what I could do. Not blame others instantly but look at myself. Does that mean my teammates are perfect? Hell no. We are in silver. So I am trying to figure out how to exploit that and also do more as support. I’m also thinking of taking tank back up. I played a lot more tank in OW1. I feel I have more “carry potential” on tank. Could be wrong.

My guess is that it works on low ranks because attack stops at the choke for... reasons. Most of the time when we play attack we either TP on high ground or speed behind the point to spend as little time in the choke as possible. You simply don't need to extend that far to defend that point.

Watching a Rein die full shield multiple times it's just.....sad....

Honestly i sort of had no idea what was happening either but i placed mostly bronze so that could be why, except for my last season which was gold i think but then i won no games so i dropped to silver.

As a lucio main I actually really enjoy lucio mercy as a backline. Not great sustain in long fights but if your team turns up the tempo it’s the “press w to win” comp

Yeah any comp with Lucio needs to take fights quickly. If it comes down to sustain, you’ll lose. Unfortunately a lot of people don’t seem to realize this and they just end up posting up and waiting to die.

@@erikdayne5429 for real. It actually felt even more viable in the OW2 beta as well. Had a bunch of mercy lucio rein games where we just ran over people. Long as I personally can keep my tank alive and in good positions and keep my mercy alive/position in good spots for her to GA to then we’re golden. Also a damage boosted rein builds shatter so damn fast I wish mercys would give him the love more often, especially with two firestrikes

I love playing Lucio but half of the time I'm unable to because I get a Mercy, insta-lock one trick so I have to stay on heals the entire time and just stand around with my tanks because they refuse to push up. I love playing Ana but sometimes I just want to be an assassin frog, but I can't so I have to swap to a main support because 85% of the time the Mercy never does.

I'm convinced this is what tank gameplay in low silver is like, I know it's only two data points but I was in a low silver game earlier today (I'm like 1100 so these people were all 400+ rating above me, it was scary) and that was exactly what happened, I just had to hold the line (there were good pushes on attack, at least?) and do basically nothing for 20 minutes before we won.

Because they can without being punished. I think that worked for me up until plat then I just hit a brick wall and had to relearn and think why it's bad. Cause it can be good sometimes, if they don't really punish you for it.

Because skill in any game comes with the added benefit of an increased attention span. Sure, holding the high ground means you have stand around doing nothing for a little longer, but it’s because bronze players don’t have the experience of doing it that they don’t have the experience of it working. Tangentially, I want to mention that this is a general problem stemming from ow matchmaking at lower ranks not putting you up against players actually better than you. When you’re 1.7k and only play against other players at 1.7k, you never get to experience what actually works and what doesn’t.

This looks like a typical bronze more than any you've reviewed thus far.

Flats you just don't get it. By dropping shield at 2hp and dying immediately. They give their team an advantage because they're not taking support resources from the good players.

My tank experience is different to this because I go roadhog so I’m a tangy dps that kind of plugs holes

Teammates flame in the low ranks if you try to play aggressive, or if you try to take space, or do anything with intent really

this rein plays better than any actual silver ive ever seen. theres alot of times where he starts to drool. like dropping shield or walking the whole way back. but he started off strong imo. hugs walls, peaks corners plays it safe to not feed ult charge, has a quick reaction speed (for silver) and bursts of aggression. Id say this rein is easy Plat material. no one home. but the skills to wreck silver games.
