Hey guys! Just to address the filter humm noise, thank you all for your tips, but I’ve seen them all on social media too and nothing fixed my filter noise. It’s not air, not the prefilter, not that it’s new (ran it for 9 months, been like this from day 1), it’s not clogged or dirty, the valves are fully open, there’s nothing vibrating against the stand, the filter doesn’t vibrate I even placed it on a mat.. Only thing I did not do is change the impeller, but seeing others on forums having this issue and not fixing it with an impeller change puts me off on ordering one, I cannot find spare parts locally.. so I’m not sure what to do with it, probably going to sell it and use the money to buy a new one, silent canister suggestions appreciated! :) More about the somewhat DIY CO2 system kzread.info/dash/bejne/mnaeu8mdoKvbmbw.html Purchase link amzn.to/48DjDEf More about the CO2 reactor kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqZs2rdvqpjAgMo.html Purchase link amzn.to/49E6EDI

Tbh i would sell it like you said and just buy another one as it seems faulty. Mine is very silent and some times i can never hear it and wonder if it's even on. i do wonder if it's the fish tank cabinet? what i mean by that is if i have my Oase 250 Thermo slightly off centre in my left door cabinet it will hum and buzz like yours because the floor of the cabinet is slightly hollow underneath. So what i have to do is have the filter right in the middle of the left cabinet floor and the noise stops any few inches off and the buzzing comes back and it drive me nuts.

@@OllyBPlayz Hi, no it's not the cabinet acting like a speaker, I placed it outside on the floor to see if it was vibrating against the bottom at all and it's just as loud on the floor :( also the sound propagates outside through the back of the stand as well, my stand is open on the back for the pipes and the hummm bounces off the wall, so there is a place in the room where it's the loudest haha but even its quietest is so annoying :)))

I feel your Discus pain. No matter what I did, including buying spring water with the perfect ph to do water changes, my Discus let me know that "I suck at Discus" by staying at the back of the aquarium. I gave them away and opted for a Rainbow fish community that liked my tap water! They were a joy to care for; colorful, interesting to watch and just satisfying pets. I really like your big beautifully planted and aqua-scaped tank full of small delightful fish!

The oase filter may just be noisey, idk, I've never had one. But the air purging is probably because your hoses are too long. Every big bend in the tubing, both intake and output, is a place where air bubbles form/get trapped. Then they move on eventually, going into the filter where they get trapped and build up some more, or out into the water column. Shortening the tubes to just as long as they need to be to reach will help far more than you'd think. With the heater, you should consider an inline heater since you have a canister. The problem with heating bigger tanks is getting the heated water to fully circulate around the tank. An inline heated sits on the outflow tube, so freshly heated water gets pushed wherever the outflow goes and as fast as the outflow pushes. You can sort of achieve this by putting your in tank heater right next to the intake pipe of the canister(or any filter). Then the heated water around the heater gets sucked up into the filter and pushed back out with the outflow. It is just a little less efficient. With either method, and a tank this big, you also have to consider the dead spots in flow. Some areas will just be warmer than others. Perhaps your tank is generally warmer than you think, but you just have your thermometer in a dead spot. It is also possible that it is just not a good heater. Idk. But I hope these suggestions help! I'm sad to see the discus go, but your planted tank is beautiful! If you ever want to try a larger fish again, consider angelfish. They aren't as colorful as discus, but have some wonderful patterns. They are way hardier, don't require as high of temps, and get a long with many other fish. Depending on their individual personality. You can keep just one. I had one in a planted community tank for nearly 7 years. The only fish I tried with him that he never liked were swordtails. But he got along with mollies, and those are pretty similar. Idk. They just have very strong personalities.

Use Bath toweling to line your filter cabinet to help absorb the sound and stop it from resonating if you want to keep the filter you can start by experimenting by darping the filter with a few towels. I watched a video where a guy tried many different materials to sound isolate a loud pc and strangely enough terry (bath) towling was the most effective as it stopped sound bouncing around the same way carpet does versus a bare room. Also adding rubber feet to the filter to help reduce the filter conducting vibration to the cabinet.

  • @IevgeniiIegorushkov

That noise is definitely the air trapped in the filter. If nothing helped to eliminate it, it's a warranty case. Oase filters were designed by German engineers with ease of use in mind. Those filters are quality products and are promoted by many scapers there. So I decided to replace mine with one of those BioMasters. Ease of use brings complexity to construction and potential points of failure. It started leaking and I came back to the filter that I used before. Easy to maintain, hard to break. The simplest canister filter which exists for ages. So, my current filtration now is Eheim Classic 600 filled with Sera Siporax and Sera Prefilter filled with sponges attached to it. But I don't know if it filter keeps nitrite undetectable or the substrate I use.

Same with TDS meters. But once you've calibrated you're gear you know where your at. 1 degree or 20ppm difference doesnt change much but I'm wondering how far the heater is out on the oase?

there is air in your filter, it shouldnt be there, press the blue button while the pump is running to purge it out, I have a 240 gallon tank running of 1 850 and a 600, both thermo, water temp stays great. There is far from enough water in your filter and you are probably running the heaters dry which breaks them. You should keep going with getting the air out until you no longer hear water running, it should be quiet as the pipes and filter are all full of water. Also, check to see where the air comes from, I thought I noticed a CO2 reactor in there, if you hook that up so it goes from the reactor to the filter you gonna have a bad time, the reactor should be the last stop before the tank. If the air comes down through your skimmer, the skimmer is not big enough for the filter, either use the oase valves to cut the flow or buy a bigger skimmer. My aquarium is standing in the middle of the living area of the house, if it would have sounded like that I would have switched brands a long time ago.

Well.. no there is no air in the filter, you’ll just have to believe me when I say I shook this thing like a cocktail shaker for months.. I pushed the button even but nothing’s really happening in the way of air purging.. I don’t run a skimmer it’s just the oase standard pipes and the reactor I just installed very recently (on the outflow) and the filter is noisy for the past 9 months.. I really think it’s one of the ‘bad’ ones that skipped quality control or something and the only reason I still use it is because it’s not in the house.. but it will be soon and like you said, it’s getting replaced with a different brand effective immediately.. I hope lol 🤭

I also feel your plant load was a massive help to your levels. I look forward to watching it fill in. What was the bag of dirt/sand called I’d like to try some if it’s in Australia As for your filter is a hose vibrating on something? Is there grit in the empellar ? Try so high density foam underneath it. You could also line a box with sound proofing and use box as a cover. I know these things shouldn’t be necessary. Also have you checked if other with this filter have similar issues. Also the purging is normal and meant to occur It really is a beautiful tank. Regards Duzzy🇦🇺

Hi, thank you! ☺️ about the tap water, I think so too! We don’t have a great deal of chlorine in the tap water in my country. The sand beneath the soil is called Deponit Mix, it’s a nutrient infused layer from Dennerle, no phosphate and nitrate they say! I believe them 🤭 about the filter, uhhh yeah I tried everything it’s not a vibration I can control, it comes from the impeller and no matter how much I clean it it’s still humming. Did it from day 1. I’ve had quite a few brands of canisters so far, none as loud as this one… none purging like this one either.. I gave in to the marketing 😞

@@Danny-MOG have you tried a new impeller? If you want silence, get a sump. They clean better, they’re quieter and maintenance is easy. The beauty is you can go hi tech with roller filters, co2 reactors, heaters sensors or low tech with sock or sponges the beauty is you can tune them to silent. I’ve used them for big tanks even a small sump above a small tank. Regards Duzzy🇦🇺

Absolutely! But for a big tank I’d go for a CO2 reactor rather than a diffuser, I see no CO2 loss and towards the end of the photoperiod my plants look like they are ‘boiling’, thousands of oxygen bubbles everywhere! it’s incredible! Makes the diy co2 last much longer due to a low bps count!

Problem with heaters is no matter how many you have them in tank unless they are electronicly connected it will always one start at a time and start heating up water so rest of them will never turn on most of times.Try to get 1 stronger from 150-200w but considering what you now have in tank temps. are not issue.I have Discus tank for 20 years and with 2 heaters 1 main and 1 backup.

Seems you have a circulation problem , add a wavemaker in your tank to help your heater to adequately mix the heated water in the display tank . For that tank size , you will need multiple canister filter to help clean 5he water , 1 canister filter is not gonna cut it , low water movement . Hope this helps !

It’s on maximum :) I have researched it endlessly and tried every ‘fix’ on social media, even run it without a prefilter and there are people with sub par biomasters and people with ok ones. Not even an impeller replacement fixed it for some. It did this noise from day one, which was on August last year. As someone on a forum put it, it’s down to quality control perhaps, mine is one of the sub par ones.. shame, but it’s the 4th oase product that is sub par for the price for me, my experience is already bad with everything I tried from them..

But why no have both? i have a heavily planted aquarium with discus, the tank have been running for a couple of years now without any issues. Just need to select the right plants which can withstand high temperatures. And also having a planted increases water quality in tank, the plants filters the water and discus will be happier.

@@Danny-MOG when I said natural biology, I was saying that the tanins and plants give off their own greenhouse effect in which they produce bacteria growth and natural oxygen for your fish. The fish also help your substrate produce nutrients for your plants to grow and the oils/poop from your fish produce great bacteria for them (eat) to grow and balance natural water quality too. From this I've had great success and a good cycled tank. I usually clean my tank every three weeks. Take 25% of the water out and replace it with 25% fresh water. Most Fish keepers drain 50% or more in a changing. That's not a good idea because you lose all good nutrients. Have a good day. 😊
