I Ride a 2023 KLR 650 | Still a Great Motorcycle For Beginners | Island ADV
Going from 2018 KLR with 30, 000 Km to a 2023 KLR 650 with just over 300 is a wild experience. But it tells me that the new KLRs still have all the great things that make this machine a legend.

Fun bike but I’m in love with the trail you’re on wow would I love to zip down that With Gas so expensive how can you not cruise planet earth on a motorcycle. In my opinion this is the ultimate Range Rover

A range rover is the perfect comparison, and this was the first time I'd been on this trail too. There so many little runs like this on PEI too.

I just bought the 2024 KLR 650 Adventure ABS. I currently have a 151miles on it. This is my very first motorcycle I have ever own. Hadn’t ridden a motorcycle in about 25yrs. I found this bike is what I was looking for. Some road riding with the ability to hit the dirt roads. As for weight and handling I don’t have any comparison. What I have noticed is the bike really doesn’t to control you. Doesn’t take long to gain confidence.

You'll find the bike will become a great companion. Easy to ride, and still a ton of fun to go adventuring on. Congrats on the new bike!!

I have a 2022 KLR, and its a fun machine. The only issue I have is the speedo is off about 3 mph. If it says I'm at 45, i'm doing 42 actual. I've heard a 16t will fix it, get it closer to actual. Other than that, having a fuel gauge over a tach I welcome, even though I still fill up every 200 miles by habit.

Where they have the digital speedo it's hard not to notice the difference when the GPS is up or when passing a radar speed sign thing. I have one on my commute (sign) and I notice my 2018 is about 4 Km/h off too. I really missed the tach though. I'm always looking at mine on the 2018. If I bought one of these, it would be my first mod.

Same. I think my plan would be to get a different, more powerful machine while I kept the KLR. Or go for an enduro. Either way, an upgrade for me would have to be an upgrade in the ride experience. Cheers!!

Purchased my 22 KLR in July and already have almost 3500 miles on her. Once you get her broken in, it starts to get smoother n more comfortable. Really happy with the bike, those back winding country roads and exploring fire roads/dirt roads, especially when the weather is nice, is so enjoyable. Only upgrades are a thermobob, attack graphics side tank protectors and the aftermarket angular mirrors(the best upgrade so far), almost better than getting an extra 3hp!!! Tachometer is no issue for me, you forget all about it, a gear indicator would be more useful in my opinion, but right off the showroom floor, it's a very bike. I like the DR650 and will be getting on, but an aftermarket tank and seat are a MUST and that's covered with the new KLR, which the seat gets better once it's broken in. Also, looking to get a gen 2 eventually, just to have one. Thanks for the content!

3500 miles! That's awesome! Congrats on the new machine. It's good to hear that the bike will break in like that. I hear you on the winding back roads. I can spend entire weeks doing that kind of thing. In fact, we're doing that all next week lol.

A demo Camo KLR, sweet!! I only sat on a few in the shops but never got the pleasure of a test ride. So neat to see and hear your thoughts on it, great video. Cheers, and keep well!

The camo design is so cool. Interesting island adv trivia, lol. The week before I took delivery of the silver fox, they offered me a 2018 camo KLR. I almost took it instead, but something spoke to me with the black. Cheers buddy

If these were available in 2020 I would likely have one instead of my CB500X as I've always been a Kawasaki guy. Which is funny to say considering that I don't have any green machines in the garage at the moment.

Yes the GEN 3 is a fun iteration of the KLR 650. I think it would be great for someone's first intro to the cult following lol.

It's like throwing out an anchor when you shut the throttle.....I have a clutch delete plug, which they say stops that...will have to try it. I noticed it has the soft back side brackets...only about 40.00 direct from Kawasaki..OEM....but, you do look good on it.....stock suspension is also better....I do prefer the FI over carb. Put a thousand klm on mine the last few days...getting 25.3 klm / liter...23 liter tank...wow...Garth

That's the perfect way to explain the throttle. Thank you for that. After a while found the solution was to either come all the way off the throttle instead of feathering it. But Fox can feather a throttle real good. For me it would be a learning curve thing. I'd get used to it. Great to here you're getting out there on the bike man. Ride safe!

Love my Ole ‘23...it’s a great bike for beginner to advanced riders. It’s a beast...a honey badger. The only things which limits where it can go are my skills...and cojones.

It's great to see the next generation of this bike keep all the things that make it fun like that. A good adventure machine, a great core memory maker, a genuine smile generator, lol.

Good vid ! Sometimes wonder about moving to a Gen 3 fr my ‘08 … but don’t think I’m there. Got mine pretty much missed out to equal the newer ones. Close to them anyways. EFI might be nice but it’s nice working on the carb at times too. Yiu get that much more intimate I suppose. Thx for sharing !

Oh yeah I hear you. Me and Fox are for life, but the Gen 3 brings a lot of fun to the table. It's very fun to ride, but the throttle response is soooo touchy. Letting off the accel. feels like a sudden brake. But I guess there is a level of finesse that you probably develop as you ride it.

That touchiness (braking feel) sounds like my Ninja 1000. Many of the riders on the forums have always disliked that touchiness. Me, I kinda like it that braking to a point such as if/when you see a deer in the ditch, the bike quickly slows down for you. But, setting up a corner or sweeper with that touchiness/braking is not necessarily what you want on a sport or sport touring type bike. Tomato .. toe-mato I suppose. Haha

That's how the engine breaking functions on the gen 3. A tad aggressive. 3d cycles sells a $12 plug to bypass it.

Found out can't do Magdalen Island (ferry back to PEI full) so hit up a little festival in Cape Breton called Blueberry Jam. Going to hit the Caribou ferry and head to Cavendish Park tonight hopefully it's not fully booked. Any chance you or any other Island Riders want to meet up and do a ride today or tomorrow? It's been 5 provinces and 10,700km to get here including the Trans Labrador. Itching to get some red dirt on the bike.

Oh man! I wish, but we're just now getting ready to be kickstands up for Quebec and the Gaspe. We'll be on the road in a few minutes. But check out the "PEI dualsport riders" Facebook group. I'm sure there's folks itching to ride.
