You wanted it, so we're back with EU4 West Rome! Today, we continue the saga, attempting to turn form cursed to blessed with the EU4 extended timeline mod. EU4 Mods have come a long way, but this one was my first one, so it'll always be one of the best EU4 mods to me! EU4 Rome has never been so close... but we do have Byzantium to deal with eventually!

Ah yes, the western Roman empire. Stretching from Illyria to the Baltic sea 😂
"The Barbaricate is the name sometimes used to refer to the period in West Roman history between the reconquest of Ostrogothic Pannonia in 479 and the recapture of Central Italy, including the former capitals of Ravenna and Rome, in 565. The Barbaricate was defined by the controversial policy begun under Julius Nepos of subjugating the formerly Romanized tribes of Goths and Germans along the Rhine, Danube, and, in later years, Vistula, rivers; some of whose territory lay outside of lands traditionally held by the Roman Empire. This strategy was employed to amass the manpower and wealth required to retake the core territories of Italy; however, the increasingly Germanic dominance within the realm, as well as its status as a rump state, led to its legitimacy as the Western Roman Empire being questioned in the eastern Byzantine Empire. with the Reconquest of Rome from Odovacer's Italian Kingdom in 565, the Byzantine Emperor Leo III finally recognized the emperors of the Barbaricate as legitimate; however, from this point onward, the two halves of the Roman Empire were increasingly distant politically. The modern term *Barbaricate* ultimately derives from Latin *Barbaricum,* referring to the regions to the north beyond Roman control, which can be further divided into Sarmatia and Germania. The word was first used to refer to the realm by Byzantine authors as a pejorative term, mocking the Germanization of the Empire. This was adopted by later historians and modified into a historiographic term." Ripped from a (hypothetical) Wikipedia article on this period of history

Inspired by these couple of videos I tried your same run. Other than the countless rebels and the big tribes collapsing after each war, there was a big surprise with a huge Byzantium who started expanding in Poland and Bohemia regions and now they are about to reach Pommerania. Hopefully the historical friends modifier will save me until I eat France and Italy (I decided to not have allies to make the game more interesting)

You're doing your best and it shows. Good stuff man.
I'd give up my degree to have bragging rights of beating Florryworry.
West rome did have that much glory..
We need more Romeeeeeeeeee Jabba the Hutt will not be satisfied MOREEEEEEEE
Honestly this is one of my favorite series, just because it seems challenging without being impossible or preventing you from progressing.
I would love to see you reform Rome. That is why I am commenting for engagement.
24:24 Watching this in December 2023, it feels so weird to see only 2 possible reforms at each tier. Good to see the game develop even after 10 years.
Really like this series, would love a part 3!
From Cursed to Blessed? More like from Cursed to even more Cursed
You were saying about how you aren't really west because most of your land is East of Rome, and you aren't particularly roman since you again, don't own much roman land and the operations of the nation aren't as empire-like as Rome. What you are is Roach Rome. Just determined to survive, which in complete fairness has been greatly successful especially considering it isn't in a constant pool of debt. Surprisingly economically stable if nothing else. It's a very hype campaign, quite enjoyable & i think better than if you had done soissons - the comedy of western rome basically avoiding the traditional roman heartland is great.
I really want to see this series finished by you taking out the Byzantines :O
We love watching you earn a win!
Are there mods that add more content to extended timeline? I feel like that would be great, like premedieval Italy having a mission tree where, you sort of replace Western Rome, Western Rome itself having a mission tree that allows for incredible snowballing but a very hard start, events related to actual events of the period and some alternate history events, like one of the Roman nations, byz or Western Rome taking Rome, the people of Rome see the chi-ro (Or whatever that symbol is called) on the banners of the soldiers sieging the city so they just let the western/eastern romans in and it cedes the province, maybe if western Rome still exists to 600, a lot of countries that occupy historical roman provinces get separatists for Western Rome. Basically, cool snowballing for a alternate reality

No I know how the Roman Emperor did feel in the twilight of the Roman Empire, babarians and rebbels all over the place.
That's so cool, even cooler if the thumbnail borders could relate to the actual video
30:29 “We are a large empire, but that is counteracted by the fact we are trading in wine.“ That knocked me out 😂😂
West Rome at the end of the last video is basically just a really early Austria-Hungary with northern France
Return of a legend

Looks like it's coming up Rome!
Dude, you are good at border goring.
You certainly took a difficult challenge here, but at this point it seems like you're starting to get things increasingly under control. Definitely seems interesting, though I wonder if you'll end up slowly eating up more of Germany just to keep them from continuing their attacks. Or at least to get a more narrow front like Denmark.
Thanks a lot!
*hooded Roman appears* "Do it. Unite Rome again."
Would love to see you reform Rome. I think you deserve it. Also before you got Rome I think your name should have been "North of Rome". Another thing ally the Sassianid?

Lets go, Granada one next
8:05 the 11 battles of the Isonzo be like:
I remember I tried doing my own west Rome restoration but then I got hit by an event that lost me a lot of cores so I gave up. I think I was almost finished too, I think I almost taken all of Iberia, most if not all Italy, and pretty much just the England section of Britain. But then the event happened and I lost all my cores on land I already had such as all of Spain and England. And by then the overextension would essentially have made me need to redo all my conquering
yes its back!!!
We need a part 3
I love when it dawned on him he was bigger than Italy lol
Sometime, you should play the CK2 mod When the World Stopped Making Sense; it's set around this time period.
Playing as Soisson is a way more easy. Soisson and Altava can restore west rome, but only soisson is roman culture.
annihilating Hannover is something Laith would do
Laith - I'm reclaiming the roman empirr I can't play! Laith - Does everything, conquers countless counties, but makes almost zero actual progress towards reclaiming any roman cores.
