This Xbox Repair was a MISSION!
Ғылым және технология
I paid £45 for a faulty Xbox One S on Ebay, with the hopes of trying to fix it! I didn't expect to see what I did, was I able to fix it? 👀

Awesome repair man! As soon I saw the thumbnail I was like "that's cooked, no way that retimer zone had survive". Nice one noticing the HDMI broken line.

This was really hard! max respect for your work. If I can give you an advice, stop scratching traces with a blade, try a grinding pen. I gotta one on aliexpress cheap as always, usb C rechargeable and with a lot of tips. 3 speeds, works like a charm and I haven't recharged It yet! No sponsorship of course ( I don't even remember the brand... but it's not big and heavy like a dremel... it's light and small!)

@@JoeyDoesTech actaully chemical removal of solder mask is the recommened method d.c.m. and a q-tip trust the last thing you want to do is accidently scratch/grind through anything also that board should be checked for electrolytic capacitor damage also 450 is too hot you could damage silicon beyond its rated heat flux maximum
Wow, great job Joey! If a board is as badly damaged as this, makes you wonder how badly damaged the donor board must have been. I was sure this one was only going to be any use a a donor or for the dustbin. 👏
Seeing you repairing/cleaning the components and the motherboard is satisfying to watch, the transformation is incredible! When I heard the One S turn on my eyes basically lit up and then the startup screen.. wow, great job! Every time I see a console this messed up, I wonder how the hell it happened. How could you let it get this dirty? When I opened my old GameCube for the first time over 15 years after I got it, it didn’t have this much dust, same with my other Nintendo and Microsoft consoles. I treat my consoles and PC as if they are my children. The only console that ever broke for me, was the white 360 with the whole “ring of death” debacle. Sure, tech sometimes breaks on it’s own and accidents happen, I’ve experienced overheating and broken parts with my old laptops/PCs but I still have almost every piece of tech I’ve ever bought. Even though a lot of them are more than dated, they still look as if I just pulled them out of the box. 🤷🏻♀️😄 I think it’s important to take care of your stuff and you clearly do that and I love how passionate you are about repairing these things.

Yeah to be honest when I was younger I was really never shown to look after things, but it wouldn’t of been this bad 😂 The fact it has drawings on etc is bad enough. Thankyou for watching, glad you enjoyed :)

@@JoeyDoesTech haha yes, I definitely had to learn to look after stuff as well but that's normal, kids usually don't think about these things. Yeah, I really cringed when you unpacked the One S. :D But that made it all the more satisfying to watch you repair it! Thanks for providing us with such great content! :)
Nice job! Looked a fun and satisfying fix. The datasheet for the TDP158 chip shows the broken track was to VCC. There's another pin on the chip connected to it, hence the continuity.
Yeah i had to Google that, if you're positive it's never been opened that seems like a launch edition. Probably worth quite a bit.
Your skills in the craft are really coming along Joey, nice repair!

I bought one of the first 2tb Xbox One S’s that I preordered from Amazon because it came with a 4k Blu-ray player. I sold it to a young lady here in Phoenix after I had ordered the series X again from Amazon bath in 2020. Great job on the repair man, make some youngsters happy with that box.
This was a blast for you! I am so happy you managed to fix it and pull all those skills off! I also recently fixed my first ps4 wich had quite a bit of issues and I felt like ya do when at the end I got it working

Wow... suddenly I hear the 'Rise From Your Grave' line from Altered Beast on the Genesis for this console. I thought for sure it was toast.
Top work there Best fix so far I think, it definitely looked like a lost cause and a bonus 2TB is a sweet win.

Nice one. Take a moment and analyze the corrosion. Always watch out for green because green is copper that corroded away. Solder is white however it turns flaky and grey and ends up black if current passed through. If you are curious to learn about corrosion search electrolysis. Important thing to know is the positive side oxidizes and negative side reduces.
@jesusyuca1483
2 жыл бұрын
Maybe I should have just said positive side builds corrosion as negative side gets eaten away.

@@JoeyDoesTech I didn’t want to put it in the original comment but don’t be surprised if it stopped working. You never cleaned the corroded pad under the retimer chip. We don’t know how much copper was left. It is making a connection for now but you never know. 🤷♂️
Thanks so much for the videos. Anybody know the values of resistor’s around the wad chip? Thanks
What a 🐐 fr!
How the actual fuck does one manage to poke a hole in a chip without opening the console man. That's some wild shit
Sometimes although not often people are very careful with opening up the Xbox or PlayStation without voiding the warranty and put it back together seamlessly so I think it could be possible that someone opened up the xbox and replaced the 500gb hdd with a 2tb hdd because I have never heard or seen an xbox one s or one x with a 2tb hdd.
@JoeyDoesTech

This could make sense! I thought it was weird, especially as it had “Laptop Hard Drive” on it!
Hi from Turkey. What is the airflow speed and temperature when you place back the smd capacitors because when i try they fly away
@JoeyDoesTech
2 жыл бұрын
It’s different for every hot air station, but i think I was using 450c 50% air flow and just making sure that the solder was connected to the component before removing it :)
Nice repair joey, i just got confused thad you used the TDP158 instead of the 75DP159, that is used on the xbox one s, the Tdp158 is for the one x, good to know that it works on both consoles
@JoeyDoesTech
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can use the 158 on the Xbox One S, but you can’t use the 159 on the Xbox One x if that makes sense :)
@rodrigocunha2320
2 жыл бұрын
@@JoeyDoesTech i guess that is because of the resolution at the one x that goes up to 4k
Hi There are special edition with 2tb consoles. Maybe not available in UK
World class job
You know what! I feel silly. I tried modding a ancient PS1 a few days ago and knocked a tiny resistor of the board and tried using soldering iron to put it back which then knocked 2 more resistors off! Didn't occur to me to use hot air.
@JoeyDoesTech
2 жыл бұрын
Haha don’t feel silly at all! It’s all about learning :) it made it a lot easier for me in this video that’s for sure!
I've never seen so much corrosion before they either spilled water in it or it must have sat in a very humid location
Any idea what happened? Was that damage from a lightning strike?
@JoeyDoesTech
2 жыл бұрын
I would agree maybe a lightning strike, or someone poured a drink in the hdmi socket haha.
Have you ever seen a wrong dvd drive? One friend of mine had a problem with Xbox one S - it won't turn on. I figured out a short circuit in the dvd drive. After unplugging xbox start working, but i didn't be able to fix drive itself.
Hi do you think you can fix the motherboard of my xbox one i took it to a repair store and they said the motherboard has died out
How much was it in repairs?
BIG question can I use a retimer chip for a x box one x on a x box one s ??? Thecod3r told me I could
