For the past week, I tried replacing my TV with a mini projector. There were some scenarios where it was even better than a television, but can it compete in the living room?

Would have been nice to have more commentary on the brightness of the projector and showing is its limits by opening and lowering the blinds and showing the impact on projection quality for us to see. Especially since that's one of the main negatives of projectors in general.
Thanks for also showing the sounds (fan sound as well as internal sound) also the real world examples were really helpful!
Being following your channel for years. I really enjoyed the range of electronic appliances and products that you reviewed. :D

Thank you! I have some really cool ones coming in the next two weeks.
How far does the projector has to be from screen? Since it's not a short throw projector
Super cool! Are you able to get the jellyfin app on this projector?
I made the mistake of replacing my TV with a projector. The dark rooms and washed out picture grew old fast and after 4 months I bought a cheap regular 85" Hisense for $750. The contrast on even the cheapest LCD destroys all but the highest end projectors costing thousands of dollars not to mention the VERY important screen. I got a highly rated budget Projector (Ultimea Apollo A40) and a great Silver Ticket brand Grey screen etc and I THOUGHT I researched the sh-t out of projection set ups. But I was wrong and I donated my set up to a local senior center for their movie days. Too many compromises and if you have any OCD then you must know you will NEVER get the picture perfect. I was constantly second guessing the keystone and focus and the entire screen is never evenly focused which is made abundantly clear when text is displayed. Not for me

I've never heard of the ultimea brand before. But projectors are always more expensive than a comparable TV. The screen is actually not that important if you have flat walls, the image can be color corrected to mostly compensate for the majority of wall colors. Laser projectors have solved the focus issues. You will always need a dark room for the optimal experience, but glossy TV screens can have glare as well so that's mostly an equal drawbacks to having the windows open.

@@sim2er agree to disagree. Having a screen was a huge improvement over the flat wall I already have (especially with contrast) A glare on a regular TV is something that can be mitigated as you're only dealing with a light SOURCE whereas with a projector ANY ambient light will washout the screen. And I agree laser is the best form of projector but now we're talking thousands of dollars If i had an extra room or Home Theater, that might be different. but as a direct REPLACEMENT there are way too many compromises for me. My advice to people is try out the experience before you buy. Turn the brightness and contrast levels down on your regular tv to the point where you need a dark room to see everything. Keep your lights off. Do this for a week and see if it's for you. I already had room darkening shades and almost never open a window in my house and never keep curtains open. Ppl joked that I was a vampire before I even got the projector. I thought I was used darkness, thought the dark room would be a blessing tbh. Truth is the dark room gets old real quick.
Great Review! I really like the idea for projectors instead of TVs in small apartments, it would save a ton of space. Also the ceiling projection at night while falling asleep sounds great... right now I use my phone and YT videos but this seems like a game changer 😅.
Question: if the projector is behind you. How do you hookup the LG soundbar attachments to it behind you?

You can run a long cable 😆. An Atmos sound bar might be configurable to swap the front and back channels
You deserve more views! Great content
I just got a projector and a screen to replace a very old and small TV we barely use. I really just want it to watch movies with my daughter when she's over, but I've found myself really enjoying watching films on the big screen rather than on my laptop. I did look into getting a new TV, but I only want to watch stuff on it from time to time. Normally I just use my laptop in bed, and this was cheaper and it makes me feel like I have a cinema at home.
Can you please compare it with Samsung's Freestyle 2?
Can you use a amazon Firestick with this?
What automatic blinds do you have

Lutron Serena Shades. I used to work as an engineer there on the Shades team. They are expensive but nothing else even comes close. The batteries last forever, the roller shade is nearly silent, and the app makes automation easy
Could it be that it only accepts LG Bluetooth speakers?
Between this and the Samsung lifestyle which one would you recommend

After going through reviews of many projectors I think this might address the issue and solve the purpose.
Cool one, too bad I don't have one square foot of flat surface on my ceilings, and maybe 55' on most walls .. 😭
I can see meat canyon doing a skit on this about replacing someone’s eyes with a projector
Are you Nate O'Brien's brother?
Im not in the market for a new projector. I just love the energy that you bring to the youtube tech review space.

Thank you! I am always excited to try new tech. I have some very interesting and different vids coming in the next week!
I think for that price might be better to get a short throw projector.
Wow only 500 ansi lumen? Thats really low even compared to cheaper portable projectors
You could buy two or three amazing and large TVs for that price, yikes.

@@Somtric Like he said, projectors have their unique use cases. This one is mini, new, and LG, so the price is understandable. But you need an external battery and a sound bar for this, ...so the total cost is more than that. Hmmmmm
You look like Golden Boy from Gen V
1.3K? Fuck that!
If Apple made one for $300 I would buy one.

Apple would never sell something like this for a mere $300 are you kidding? If anything it would be a similar spec'd device for far more than this one is selling for.

@@Ryanstuff Yeah, prob sell one at $999. and that would be the cheapest model of like 3. but advancing projector technology seems like a good tech to develop once more. I don't remember the last time I turned on a television but would love a larger viewing experience.
interesting handsome
Thirty years ago I replaced my TV with ... nothing. And never missed it.

Too expensive ... sweet spot is $350-450 but make it a little less than 4K resolution. Do that and I'll replace my TV

@MikeOBrienMedia how would you say this compares to the Samsung Freestyle 2 for ease of use and practicality? Deciding between these two options as a projector for the room. Thanks!
Projectors bulbs wear out after a couple thousand hours of use. I'll stick with my LCD panel thanks.
