What is the code

its interesting that somehow the code behind lakitu is responsible for making the anti-grav sections and other sections where you drive on 45 degree or 90 degree angles not throw you off the course, I didn't think they would be intertwined

I can kinda see how they are, so you see how without Lakitu the anti-grav section is like you have to tilt your head all weird. I think with lakitus coding along with the camera alinement is connected, cause you can still drive on it vertically but the camera is all weird. U know what I’m trynna say?

It's probably a hit box around the track with spawn point and gravity direction. If you hit the edges, Lakitu brings you to the right location and rotates you to the right gravity. Remove the hit box and there's no Lakitu, but also the game doesn't know what direction that track section is supposed to face

@@BlueAizu_ you got a point, lakitu is like tape in the mariokart coding connecting the checkpoints with the anti-gravity system.

This game has the weirdest collision Sometimes you get an entire solid Toad Town, sometimes you can't even land on a parking lot No pattern whatsoever lol

They should add this as an explore mode in the game. They could even hide coins in hard to reach spots and you can unlock vehicles after you collect them

I'd be interested in seeing what the NPCs do with this if they drive off the track. Do they freeze in place, still try to wander around somewhere thinking they can reach the end, or somehow magic themselves back onto the track?

probably freeze in place, in some of redfalcon's videos (like lava out-of-bounds, or making the map bigger) some computers just suddenly stop at certain areas for some reason

My guess is that Mario Kart 8 initially probably had a larger scope in mind, with explorable areas that connect tracks, but at some point in development they dropped the idea (perhaps the Wii U couldn't handle it, or they really felt they needed to get MK8 out faster to try and help the consoles sales). As a result, later tracks don't have that sort of robust OOB areas because they weren't necessary.

I was going to post this too. It would also be awesome if you could host rooms and choose between Aggressive Lakitu or Chill Lakitu (who only rescues you from obvious spots or when you go TOO far out of bounds... Like, you're leaving programmed collision zones kind of too far)

The best case is to have this as a seperate single player mode, maybe called exploration. But how will you be saved from falling endlessly?

The biggest disappointment me and my brother had with 8 deluxe is that you can't drive backwards and there is a time limit on everything. DS didn't have these things, thus allowing for much more fun and creative ways to play the game other than just racing.

At first I thought this was so pits were game-ending death traps, but this is way better- AMAZING

I remember wishing I could do this kind of thing in mkds. even if the tracks weren't nearly as detailed. I was also very disappointed to see they blocked out peach's castle in the mk8 royal raceway. that's like such a cool detail of the track, and it always made that track stand out in my mind.

Would be a pretty cool concept where you unlock new playable maps by finding hidden routes on an "out of bounds" mode (time trial type). Would both make a fun way for them to add more interesting fun optinal time trials and some Easter eggs

It would be very interesting to see this as a full fledged speedrunning category considering how many of the background elements have collision.

You should remove all invisible walls and install a flying mod to actually explore all of the maps! It's gonna be so cool!

I really appreciate the detail that Nintendo did for the tracks. Going out of bounds, you can see just how much things are going on in the background, and it's A LOT.

I hate Lakitu in this game. He doesn't let you go backwards or explore the tracks like you could in mario kart wii.

The fact you could reach other parts of the track from forbidden areas makes for some ideas for the return on race tracks in Battle Mode to make them more explorable.

Yeah I kept noticing the strategic editing every time he would pass the finish line and wouldn't let us see if the game actually counted the "laps" he was doing.

Toad Village really gave me 2002 WoW vibes when the Hidden Troll Village (Shatterspear Vale) was found.

That's why you'd have a key checkpoint system. If you don't hit all the key checkpoints, lap doesn't count. Though preferably don't make it overly complicated like in wii

i remember playing this game on wii (a differnt mario kart i think it was) and i was the best at one of the water maps i loved it and im so sad that i accidentally broke my wii but this makes me feel a little better so thankyou for making this video

Back when I played this, I love being able to shave a massive section off Big Blue on 200 CC. I knew it had to be the fastest track without boundaries but holy-

The would be a great Doug Doug challenge “Can twitch chat beat one full race of Mario kart without lakitu” or something like that

This is why I would have "physical properties" out of bounds if I made a Mario Kart game, though that would need a whole team on its own

It would be nice if lakatu helped you when you fell off but not when you’re trying to pull off a trick In normal Mario kart
