gegeruju's story is that he was a 1.0 retainer (retainers in 1.0 were presets with specific names and appearances, though you still got to give them a nickname, and Gegeruju was one) who's employer never came back after the calamity and he made enough money selling the assets to become a very wealthy land owner.

(keep in mind that this isn't *100%* canon. They reused names and models of the 1.0 retainers, some of which have enough dialog to conclusively say that they were definitely not the retainer in question, for example Eijika Tsunjika of the eureka questline. But I want to believe that's why Gegeruju is a rich idiot, he didn't really earn that money)

I have _four of them_ because I'm addicted to pearl white dye. (Also because health problems keep me out of savage / extreme these days, so had to find something to fill the time.) Edit: I made a lot of gil off the mount tokens before the market inevitably crashed... Which was probably partially my fault. Sorry.

My advice as a max level/rank island sanctuary player with everything except the manual gathering achievement- Focus on leveling/rank, then at max join the discord server that has the bot that tells you what to make the end (I still run my island cause it's a great source of Gunmetal Black Dye, which sells pretty consistently on the MB )

It may not be the optimal way to level up my island, but holy crap do I spend a lot of time just mindlessly running in circles picking flowers, breaking rocks, and felling trees and just having something off to the side (like this video!). It's just so relaxing. The only "chore" is taking care of the animals and the farm, and then I just go picking. Unless it starts to rain, then I go hit up my cabin and plop on some tunes and just chill and watch the rain fall. It's freakin' perfect for me.

Island sanctuary discord, that's all there is to it.

i kept up with my island every major update so i could get it to max rank each time, and while i haven't been fully filling up the market schedule every week now that i'm done, i do juuuust enough to get the weekly amount of Felicitous Tokens so i can add on to my ever-growing stack of gacha boxes in my inventory (right next to my Grand Company Materiel Containers)

i check my island twice a week, and recently had like 500k cowries (after having already gotten all the glams/mounts/misc dyes), and spent the rest on materia to penta my gear lol once it gets into the 'idle' stage, there's really no need to check it daily imo when needing smth to watch in the bg, i'll usually put on a long vod ranging from nature documentary to 'how do invisible walls work in mario 64' lmao

I'm still sitting on nearly 1mil cowries and 2 spare mounts from the random boxes. Thought about liquidating all those into gil with buying dyes (On my Server 1 sold dye could pay for 5-7 materia, thats why I'm not buying those), but after my gf constantly reminds me, that we get two color glamouring, I'm still holding onto my cowries. Dye prices probably go up, or down because a lot of people have the same idea. Now my island is just a hoarder place like my retainer.. Still havent figured out if cowries cap on 999.999 like those stupid vouchers, which cap at 150 for no reason..

There is already a collectable vendor with the backstory of a vicious capitalist: Rowena. Not only is she portrayed as such in most of her cutscenes, her capitalistic tendencies reflect in gameplay. The custom deliveries pay out big in scripts. Meanwhile, all the regular crafting and gathering collectables are traded in to Rowena for about half of what you'd get from a custom delivery, and only one type of script at once. Not to mention her outrageous prices on Earthbreak Aethersand; 300 purples for 1!? She's cut throat. Only thing is she does have a soft spot for orphans, so I guess she doesn't meet all the criteria.

That's really sad. And, not sad as in pathetic, sad as in heart-breaking.

If you enjoy documentaries and infotainment, I found a few channels to watch in the background about old Disney parks/ properties, etc. Defunctland is what the channel is. Even goes over old TV shows and their histories. It helped me on long nights when my son was a baby and I would be up at all hours of the night with him.

I loved this! It reminded me of how much I loved grinding in certain spots on my island and the solace it would bring!❤

I have never heard any two people refer to the Chex-and-powdered-sugar-and-melted-chocolate snack as the same thing. I have heard puppy chow, monkey munch, toddler crunch, kid crunch, Scooby Snax, and more. Thank you for adding to the bewilderment this single snack has given me, in particular.

My go-to series for long grinds is Drawfee, a hilarious youtube show where four pro artists draw based on ridiculous prompts. It's especially good because, since drawing is a whole process, you don't need to pay specific attention to the video itself. You just listen and glance over every once in a while to see how the drawing is shaping up, so if there's game content that's brain off but requires you to look at what you're doing (eg roulettes) even someone with severe ADHD like me can enjoy it without getting so distracted I bork up mechanics or have to pause the video constantly. Highly recommend!

Yours is the best Island Sanctuary content I've ever seen. Yours is also the only Island Sanctuary content I've ever seen.

I didn't mind the Island at all as I didn't have any real expectations or desires for it. YoshiP said repeatedly it wasn't going to be Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing so I believed him. *shrug* I visited my island regularly until I finished it and got all of the rewards I wanted from it, and now it just exists as an outdoor photoset and an easy source for Pearl White and Gunmetal Black dyes (as those are the two colorus I use most).

It was just so much missed potential and baffling design choices, specially in UI bloat. It was stardew with only the boring parts of running in circle and clicking items. Like when they said you can grow crops: "but not housing crops!!", they could've literally fixed years of complaints about needing estate to cross*reed plants. Ability to add housing items? Crops? Striking dummy? House itself!? "No not those!!" They could've literally added small housing plot to be put down and bam, housing fixed. Or add submarines so people wouldn't hoard literal wards for FC houses for gil

@@SurrealLeaf But that's just, like, your opinion, man. YOU call it boring, but I know a lot of people who think that's the best part of Stardew Valley. I also know a lot of people who really like Island Sanctuary. A lot of people hate crafting, but there are just as many people where that's the only part of XIV they care about. Same with the housing stuff. Not everybody WANTS instanced housing. Especially in JP, a lot of people like the limited nature of the housing and also like having real neighbourhoods with real people instead of isolated houses in a robot void. And giving everyone unfettered access to submersibles would completely break the feature and instantly make it worthless, which is arguably worse than the current situation. Same with housing crops. Striking dummies can be found outside of literally every major city in the game, there's no need to have your own private dummy. Hell, since you have to go to Aleport before you can teleport to your island, having dummies there would be LESS convenient than going to most of the overworld dummies. It's fine that you don't like a feature, or a feature's implementation. But you not liking something is not the same as that thing being bad. All your other complaints are still just being mad at Thing A not being Thing B, where Thing B is something you yourself completely invented and the devs never even implied would ever exist, and in many cases have outright said they will not do. Just saying "Island Sanctuary is boring, give me more housing" is no more helpful or constructive than those people who say "Delete crafting and housing and make more raids".

Opal is technically a glass like obsidian and often is found in petrified wood so mining it out of a tree make sense :D

You are the first person I heard saying that they are excited about the 30k Island Sanctuary Achievement. And I'm weirdly excited to see the result.

My favorite long video to watch when grinding is "The Complete History of the A Button Challenge", a nearly six hour long video about the effort to beat Mario 64 with as few A presses as possible. It goes deep into all of the computer science stuff used to make it happen, wonderful video, highly recommend.

Amusingly enough while doing my grinds lately I have actually been watching House for the first time! I'm about seven episodes into season 4 at this point, towards the end of the Tournament Arc, enjoying it quite a bit. Also, how long have you been working on this series? I randomly got into a Eureka Pyros NM party with you once back in late Shadowbringers, wondered if that might be a part of it. I rezzed you and you bit my fingers off, it was a good time.

Favorite thing to watch while grinding: I actually don't like watching videos while grinding because I find that I get distracted by the video and forget to grind. I'm very much a "one thing at a time" person.

I got pulled in by the JD and AH drama and now sadly I'm kinda hooked.....but if I need a break from that I just watch your videos Cider. Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm a sucker for a deep voice......😐😐 Cough* Yeah anyways those are my go-to. House was great back in the day though.

Quick and dirty Island Sanctuary - 1. Diversify your animals. (There are special animals that only spawn under certain conditions; get them for vanity or variety Typically their rewards are flipped from the normal version, so even if you neglect and abuse them they drop something you want) 2. I don't follow spread sheets. I make things based on one of 2 criteria - Do I have the materials? Is it something that is actually "Insufficient/Non-existent"? - End Island Sanctuary, I make things I need or just have excess materials to go toward. Oh yeah, similar items get "bonuses" so I guess you get more cowries if you string them together. 3. I use the easily gatherable seeds (Pumpkin/Parsnip/Cabbage/Potato) to make feed for my animals - Apples when I'm lazy. 4. Just check in once a day after reset to make sure the Mammets are doing their job and the crops and animals are good. If you feed/water manually? Water last (Damn rain happens too often while I'm doing things or after) 5. Profit. Make Mistress Tataru proud!

Eureka with Collin Ferguson is free on Amazon Prime (or was) and I never get tired of watching it. Used to watch it air on TV and it's fuuuuuun.

The true value of the island is in dyes and hi cordials. The glams are amazing and its a pretty nice place to escape to with friends or to decorate for gpose. So in the last video where you though gathering was miserable, having good cheap hi-cordials can help make the experience less so.

Honestly, the people who say 'FFXIV has content drought' feels hilarious when a dedicated achievement hunter like Cider has whooooole swathes of content that he's only dipped his toes into. It also makes me feel better that I keep discovering new stuff to do, even after playing for five years.

Schitt's Creek, The Office, and Corner Gas are my grinding shows. Runescape grinds were my Jam for ages lol

I've started yelling "Get drilled, idiot!" whenever I play Machinist. Thank you for the utter confusion I must be inflicting on my neighbours!

I always forget my Island too. How I help myself with that is I make it the last thing to do in my play session, then log out there. Then I log in the next time and am all 'Oh yeah! Island.'

There's a large set of nodes on the mountain for grinding out the manual gathering achievement.
