"I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance" - from the Premiere Cast Recording of CARRIE the Musical

Музыка

Check out the brand-new music video of "I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance" from Carrie: The Musical - Premiere Cast Recording, an intense and faithful pop-operatic adaptation of Stephen King's iconic 1974 novel. "I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance" is an epic song that represents a key turning point in the story's narrative as mother and daughter wage a fiercely escalating battle over Carrie's invitation to Prom. Marin Mazzie (Margaret White) and Molly Ranson (Carrie White) go toe-to-toe with unforgettably powerful performances laced with nostalgic reverie, anger, fear, love and madness. This song, as well as the entire score, features music by Academy Award® winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), lyrics by Academy Award® winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose), with a book by Lawrence D. Cohen, who also wrote the screenplay for the classic 1976 Brian DePalma film.

I really don’t get why people can’t find a single thing to like about this musical so much talent is packed in, in one single production so much emotion and incredible acting stands, the numbers are incredible and the actors are absolutely GOLD. This musical is incredibly underrated.

I think they got the scenes between the Whites right; the hysteria, darkness, tension, and obsessive love. Margaret’s songs are PERFECT for her character. The lack of focus on Carrie’s abilities and the hell she was enduring in school did not help. Watch Wait in the Wings video on the original production of Carrie. It’ll enlighten you to what went wrong and just how wrong it went. Whew!!!!!

i can’t stop watching this video. Marin Mazzie’s facial expressions terrify me, and that’s what i love most about this story: the “normal people” are scarier than Carrie’s powers. these two women are truly legendary.

the idea with margaret (Which is consistent with the book, Movies and play) is that she's a religious fanatic, someone who is obsessed with the idea of jesus and purity. Carrie on the other hand is obsessed with being normal and wants to be treated more like a normal kid and less like an outcast. Margaret believes that Carrie's late arriving puberty and menstrual symptoms are a result of Eve having committed the original sin (as stated in genesis and in the song "and Eve was weak") this song is at the tail end of act 1 and shows that Carrie is ready to openly and directly use her powers in front of everyone who crosses her path. she's done with everyone's stupid bullshit and sick of her mother forcing her beliefs onto her. this song also serves as exposition into Carrie's existence as in the book and all 3 movies, margaret explains that Carrie exists and is the way she is because Ralph White (Her father) forced himself onto Margaret after she demanded a sexless marriage and because Maragret believed that she and ralph were living in sin, that's the reason carrie has these "Devil powers." it really shows how Margaret thought she could trust the boys around her and is scared that Tommy Ross (Carrie's date and Sue's boyfriend) is going to do to her what happened to Margaret all those years ago.

Re-watch DePalma's film. It's still a great flick, but it has not aged well at all, and comes across as broad and campy. Spacek and Laurie were terrific--in the context of *that* film, otherwise they would have been quite over the top. Angela Bettis and Patricia Clarkson, from the flawed but very good 2002 TV adaptation, were far more emotionally satisfying and believable. And Marin Mazzie, as Margaret in this revival was beyond magnificent. Best interpretation of Margaret, in film or on stage.
