While I agree that "Haunted House" didn't exactly age well, the sequel "Return to Haunted House" kind of does. It plays less like the original and more like "Adventure", another Atari game, but with darker colors. Some of the limitations of the Atari actually make the game more terrifying, such as the minimalistic graphics and the sprite flickering recreates the horror trope of lights turning on and off. So, while it may not be as good as some modern horror titles, I would recommend "Return to Haunted House" just to try.

Yeah, this highlights something I quite dislike about all these "i remade blah in blah" videos, you created a small part of the game, you missed most of the mechnaics and your monster variety was very low. If it were a real actual remake you would have added all the monsters and all the mechanics (that work in a 3d environment)

Now to keep on theme, you should try remaking the horror game "3D Monster Maze" for the Sinclair ZX81 that also came out in that same year. It should be even easier to do. Only one creature hunts you down (a big T-Rex) and the level is one big maze that you have to find the exit for. So its a player, inside a maze, with a dinosaur chasing you.

Hey for this game u should add sounds to the jumpscare and a screen after like "Better luck next time!" next make it say you escaped with 0 lives instead of 0lives. and finally lower the jumpscare camera . But great game!

I think you play as a pair of eyeballs because the house is so dark you can't see their body or head.

Listen, I'm not trying to be a "hater" here , but its kinda funny how this remake ends up being objectively worse than the original. There's only one slow moving enemy, there's no additional mechanics like the scepter or the locked doors, and its aesthetically not great either. Its been sucked dry of any charm and turned into a slender clone.

@@PonderousEclectica4383 Yeah I came into it interested just because of the thumbnail, thinking he was going to be doing interesting reinterpretations of the original game, and then in reality it was just...a random model on the marketplace. That plus not even bothering to write chase code definitely gives the vibe he just didn't care.

Hey polymars, so recently I watched a tiktok that had something called "8d" audio and it was a person knocking on a door. Basically what this "8d" audio does is it makes it sound like somebody is in the room with it and it is incredibly realistic. There is probably an audio file of it out there somewhere and it is legitimately the scariest jump scare ever. You should use it in a horror game.

Yeah Garten of Banban isn't bad but it's definitely not anything to draw inspiration from when making a horror game...stick with games that are made with purpose, like Resident Evil or Poppy Playtime

The original still does infact hold up if you love pixel games and 2D games instead of 3D that could crash. And yes I understand that the game is not scary as of today but imagine how scared they where when this game first released (2D One.).

I really liked your content when I discovered you in one of the videos from Vimlark. Your style and the games you were making were really nice I thought. But to be honest recently your content is kinda becoming the same thing over and over again, especially with the horror genre. How many times are you going to remake a Slenderman-like. Horror is not that shallow and it's not alway about jumpscares. I'm glad there is an audience for that and you find success. I'm sure that tons of people like the "forced cringe" and the Dani-but-not-really style but in my opinion - and it's only my opinion, not a mean critic or an attack on you or the fanbase - I'm really sure that you can make better games than that, that you can do different things and not just become the guy who just does crappy games but in a kinda goofy way. That said, I will always be hoping to see you in collaborations with guys like Vimlark, Blackthorn and others. You can defnitely create cool stuff, of that I'm sure 💪!

I actually played haunted house on the atari that i found. so that was cool, also there is a haunted house 2 i think.

The game is a lot more atmospheric if you turn on invisible walls

I mean, when I was a little child the Atari version was kind of scary, but I think that's just because the sound was so damned loud. I was like 5 or 6 when it came out. Why yes, I am old!

I think I've actually played this game (the original not the remake) on the little Atari that my grandpa gave to me and my siblings it was a thing where it just had a bunch of games already built in Edited cause of spelling mistake

I honestly love remakes of old games. But I do wish that you'd have taken a bit of creative liberty with it rather than just giving it a fancy look. Like make the floors look different each time with furniture and things. But I do understand why you didn't go this route.

You should look into the Atari game Adventure. It’s very similar and the “dragons” look like fucked up seahorses. There’s mazes everywhere and you win by finding the holy grail (I think that’s what it is) and bringing it back to the castle.
