I used to hate vocals and concentrate on track instead. Because of that, I was always adding more because I felt there was something missing. Now I start with vocals and get them sounding amazing and I find that I put so much less in a production now. The singer has to take you on that journey otherwise you'll end up putting the kitchen sink in because you're trying to make up for something. Just thought I'd mention that in case it helps anyone.

What I learned with you... I left a comment a few months ago saying that even little artists don't want my beats. Today I have an artist I work with on a regular basis and my beats are very popular. My goal this year is to take them to the charts and I'm still counting on beat academy tutorials to help me improve my production.

Great channel and information. I have a question, do you (or anyone reading this)have any resources or book recommendations that touch deeper into the subject of song structure? I tend to fall into that whole "make a bunch of stuff in the same key and see what fits" and while sometimes something cool comes from it, i know theres a proper way of song writing. I want to start writing well structued songs that tell a story, whether it be through a simple beat or something more.

a great way to think of song structure and music in general is by thinking of food, there are bitter, salty, sweet, sour, etc, all completely different, (genres) and then in these we have different meals, sandwiches, cereal, salads, chocolate, (styles, artists) and these meals are comprised of ingredients (sounds), take a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for example, it taste great, but I also like ham and cheese, but just because I like both, doesn't mean I should make a ham, cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, it just doesn't make sense. song structure is similar to seeing a food item, and then biting it, you make an impression based off the first look, and then the real judgement comes from actually tasting it, and some foods get better as you eat them, some get worse, some can be overwhelming, some you wish you had more, some foods look incredible, but taste terrible, or some foods like sweet and surprise you by being salty, this surprise can be good or bad, depending on preference. this all can easily be converted to music.
