You should play the Great Qing again and try to get in the war earlier i think you would do an amazing job

I believe the reason why the Manchurian railways are disconected is because the Russians built them for their own economic benefits, so they connected it to the trans-Siberian railway, completely ignoring what the Qing wanted, as you do when you're and empire.

You need to do this again with the Qing Redux Mod (I think that’s what it’s called). It’s gives the Qing more content then bloody Germany and is an all round great mod. There’s a way to avoid the Hubei Rebellion in the mod, however later on Mongolia, Xinjiang and Tibet will rise up and its actually kinda hard to fight because *supply* .

When Bittersteel said that he is waiting for good disaster campaign, it means that the more campaign mess up, the better.

Mods always suggest not to do ironman because they might have a glitch that would require you load an older save to avoid

Great video! Really enjoyed doing Zhili Clique in Kaiserreich and reading up on the lore of the warlord era and people like Wu Peifu and Hu Shih. This really makes me want to try Great War Redux!

Can you play the Ottomans next. They have a large focus tree and are one the hardest starts in the game with the Balkan Wars

I beat the balkans every time, just naval invade bulgaria with 3 divisions, they have nothing on the ports, everything collapses from there for the balkans. But the defense..god damn.. nothing other than extreme micro without a front line order (or any orders) and continuous popping of last stands will save you.. but if you can naval invade early enough you might win. I tried this 3 times, all 3 times the naval invasion was the only efficient and easy way, going head first into them after they lose the buffs makes you lose enormous guns and also takes longer than 1918, which means, welp, austria is claiming allll that land you fought heavily for. Also avoid the central powers, you get enormous debuffs from just joining them and it locks a part of the tree which gets you egypt (VERY helpful when destroying the entente).

@@igameidoresearchtoo6511 Ik, I found just buying equipment (Germany gives you the most by far) and use that to equip the army. I sometimes just disband my army after the Italian war so I can rebuild it into something decent. The two most annoying things with the Ottomans is that supply in the Balkans is crap and you often have to use civs (which are swallowed by your cgs) for about a year just to build a port and or supply hub. Btw the invasion cap is 2 I believe, did you just beeline for that tech so you can do larger invasions or did you just attack in smaller invasions. Finally, what templates are you using because that may help in my next Ottomans campaign

@@danubianfederation1672 Buying equipment absolutely devastates your economy, it's not worth it except for the occasional gun purchase when you run out, otherwise stay away from buying guns. Disbanding the army is really a mistake, because the italian war gives you quite a bit of troop EXP which made several of my divisions about twice as strong as other divisions of the same template, also the default templates are editable except one, why make a brand new army when you can just edit the existing for less time and resources? time is key, numbers are dumb, 2 divisions per province for most of the front line is plenty, except for the serbian austrian pocket, which you must keep separate from montenegro using atleast 4 divisions per province otherwise you can't encircle them easily and it costs you lots of manpower and equipment to retake that territory, but I found the supply to be fine mostly, except for that damned serbian austrian border pocket, and greece. build one port on the greece border on the eastern part of greece before the war and you'll be fine. don't build any supply hubs in the balkans, don't build more troops, the ones you start with are more than enough, you will already struggle with logistics anyways so building more makes more but much weaker troops, huge disadvantage, also a manpower drain and that's another problem you need to balance. Before you naval invade, CRUSH montenegro, encircle all the balkan divisions there and melt them, then use those same divisions to navally invade bulgaria. I invade with 2 divisions but since it's already undefended it won't matter much (don't land on the romanian border port though, that one IS defended), and the AI takes a while to move it's divisions to defend itself, but don't even let it do that, pin the bulgarian army while you encircle the only 2 ports bulgaria has, and send maybe 1 or 2 more divisions to the invaded land, then use one to close the romanian port pocket you will form and use another to defend from any bulgarian divisions that managed to get unpinned (they will unpin themselves, beware of that) then using the main land army and one division or more on the navally invading army break the front line province which keeps the last bulgarian port near edirne from being encircled and immediately crush the pocket because bulgaria will be quick to withdraw the encircled divisions there. from there the balkan front collapses, and FINALLY you can ease off of the extreme no order micromanagement and finally maybe use a regular front line, but don't just put an attack order, you will still need to micro attacks but no longer the defenses. after crushing bulgaria and before serbia collapses (it's kind of a challenge due to supply) navally invade greece in (Peloponnese I think it's called??) on the southernmost port using atleast 2 divisions on the same port and after capturing it (might take a couple tries, it doesn't work the first time often) send a large portion of the army there because you will begin to have too many divisions on the balkan front anyways and rush athens and from there bye bye to greece and the entire balkan league. As a challenge I once did it without the army national focuses and I still won, just before the great war began too, but it was so much micro it took me real life weeks playing semi daily (each ingame week is about 1 real life hour, yep, that extreme). To be honest now that I reopened the saves to write this properly, yep, it was hard I won't deny that..probably the hardest start after qing.. The best templates to me were 7 infantry 1 howitzer and engineer, maintenance (for that precious equipment), field hospital, howitzer support of course and optionally logistics company. 60 divisions that you start with are plenty, their default templates kinda suck but just add on it and after the balkan war rebuild the templates to your preference, for me I just keep the same balkan templates I just mentioned, they are good defenders.

Also I did what you did with Montenegro and I cannot seem to break their mountain tiles

about disaster save i have a very hard one as France as i just came up with the idea of bringing napoleon without thinking a lot about it and i screw a lot of things (like i forgot to change to normal garrison from local autonomy after swapping into napoleon as this made me go no garrison everywhere but thats just small issue compared to what happened next) there despite haveing nearly 700 hours. But I think it may be too much even for you bittersteel (like i am just saying i managed to end up with -250k guns) but if you want it i can send it . (i have all dlcs) (also you will end up having time to prepare a bit as you will have 100 days to do so before war will break out so thats the reason i think it wont count into disaster save)

If you play WW1 Redux, it would be nice if you play as the ottomans

@@danubianfederation1672 i know very well about caporetto(every italian knows about it,as it was the worst italian defeat) but it has to be said that Germany heavily helped Austria, and that it’s also Cadorna’s(an Italian General)fault. Howewer after Cadorna was replaced by Diaz the Austrian Army never won again against Italy. Also read about the Battle of the Solstizio, where the Italian forces defeated both the German and the Austrians, or the battle of Vittorio Veneto where Italy defeat and disintegrated the Austro Hungarian army

@Aran_G it’s bullshit. The Italian army was just as good as the French one and way better than the Ottomans, the Austrians or the Russians. The French only had more troops due to colonies and leveè en masse

Great video, though I've also encountered WW1 being short as well. Two games in a row, I played as Ottoman Empire and made it Democratic. In both games, back-to-back, the Great War was over in a year or two. I didn't even have a chance to get involved in both games. I don't know what happened, but it seems that post-BBA has made the Great War end faster. I hope it gets fixed soon.

I actually did this once super hard since you have no stability or war support. I barely did it holding the river line taking out the North as to gain more vps and then slowly grinding the republic down. Godspeed for you doing it in the new version

I wish there is a HOI4 mod that allows you to play as Taiwan either on the year 1949 or 1991 and your goal is to reconquer the mainland. That will be fun to play and see on a video, if that mod exist first though.

I genuinely enjoy watching him branch out to other mods. One can only watch so many vannila HoI4 playthroughs till it gets stale, so mods certanly give a bit of fresh air. Mods that I would like to see him play or try out: Kaiserreich - always fun to see what shenanigans is he up to when playing alternate timeline. The New Order - this mod can be summed up as: Grimdark Cold War. Would be interesting to see him reacting to the lore, the finance mechanics and etc.

Rush the Qing stuff, and then head to the great war period THEN declare war instantly.

It is almost impossible now, revolutionaries pop up all over the country, even quite close to Peking. Tried making a defensive line from Peking down the coast a bit, sealing off Manchukuo region, but still lost too many v points. Might be impossible now without cheese.

I didn't realise the entirety of Korea was under water at this point in history.

Well, things like Great Qing are what I love most in Paradox games like that. When I take something that history says can't exist.... and then I force it to win anyway from that underdog position. Things like the Chinook Nation in EU4 dominating western North America and keeping European powers at bay. Or in CK3 creating a Sami kingdom that punches the Vikings square in the face. Or the Great Qing there surviving its troubles. Unfortunately that's something I've noticed with the Great War mod over the past few months. Something went wrong with either No Step Back or By Blood Alone. The war really does End by Christmas now on average. Most every time if you're not playing the German Empire you'll find yourself in a situation where the forced peace deal triggers within months of the war starting. Not sure what changes to the game caused that... but yeah. It really hurts the mod.

it was by blood alone that broke it, but it's still sometimes fine, I've had them survive till 1919 with my personal support only arriving at 1918 Though backstabbing them seems to be very rewarding as the ottomans, because they just have nothing on the ottoman border the moment the war starts. very ahistoric in the part..

When I play Qing China in great war I always make 6 good divisions for attack and then 100 shitty cavalry with 2 battalions. They are enough to exploit gaps in the lines.

Keep doing this mod dude, it looks cool.

I'd say if you are open for some non-historical modifications then I would recommend either Old World Blues (Fallout mod, very focused on small nation becoming majors and majors having a lot of to do) and Equestria at War (same as before with minors having a lot of content for becoming a major and lots of wars to get involved so you won't be bored, just try to check if the nation is updated, older ones are still fun but they don't hold candle to the ones introduced in newer versions)

The Focus tree for Qing is bugged in this video, there is a submod for GWR that is meant to make it better, and also a LOT harder than this if you cheese it

I have a new idea here, which is to convert almost all of the troops to an infantry battalion division after the war in Japan and "defend" key Soviet lands with a large number of troops, while declaring war on Donuttoy, so that we can win the war against the Soviets with capture points

We need a rerun and see you actually fight in the Great War. I want to see what difference it could make.

At first I thought this was a Victoria 3 playthrough, considering recent submissions since the game came out.

When I played Qing, I slowly ground my way through the civil war when a single pocket would take weeks to close even if it was just 2 dudes and a horse. I finished the civil war about a year into the great war and decided to join the central powers because of all the ports that were in my territory and because I wanted Korea back under my influence and the mountain countries. Took until '22 for the war to end and I got...nothing. Germans still had a port, Japan still had Korea, and the mountain countries, half of Russia, and all of India and southern Asia were given back because I wasn't allowed to keep them. Needless to say I was *very* displeased and used consoles to at least get Korea, Nepal, and Bhutan, as well as kick the Germans out of my country

What happened at the end is what I hate about HOI4. you could have historical focuses on and everything and germany still surrenders 1 year after the start. or The allies surrender or the soviets. or sometimes the allies will go to war with the soviets in 37.... The AI doesnt know how to make a decent game state.

Curious if you’d be okay redoing an Imperial Federation guide No that No Step Back and By Blood Alone are out. Have those two expansions changed how to go about it? Is the IF even more broken or been nerfed?

I found the qing very easy. If you set up a fallback line from the impassable mountains north of Beijing all the way to hanzhong, your army can easily cover that, you won't capitulate that and the republicans often leave very large gaps in their line, letting you just walk around and encircle them. I beat them with the starting army. You literally don't even need to fight the Mongols until you beat the rebels because the Mongols have so few men they barely even push.

They have no focus tree or decisions, so it would be difficult with Japan getting all of the buffs and focus events.
