I had a flip car that had the exact same with the plasti dip on the wheels. The best thing I was able to use was plain ol gasoline. I don't know what is in gasoline but it reacted to the plastidip and made it bubble up and almost run off the wheels. Before that I used everything you could imagine including Acetone. Gasoline was what I used to make it come off much easier. Use gasoline on them wait a about 10 seconds then use pressure washer and BAM!

I can understand spending an hour, maybe 2 on a wheel to see how they will clean up, but once you got to where you weren't making that progress then just scrap them and find a cheap used set of wheels that fit. At that price range, people aren't expecting perfection but they need to at least look relatively clean.

And that dog dump look is now popular in many cars today, like the newer Porsche's

Happy New Year Craig to you and your family. Hit the LIKE button and about to watch the video. When my old partner was retiring from the FBI he called me in the office with an address to meet him at. The address turned out to be a Chrysler dealer. He was driving by and saw one of these for the first time. He wanted my opinion on buying it. I told him he was entitled to a better retirement gift then he received from his office and he immediately bought it, less then an hour after seeing it for the first time! A couple of years later he was in an accident with it in which the car “became airborne “. Great car, he didn’t have a scratch on him. The Crossfire was a different story. The six speed was his downfall. He just couldn’t resist putting his foot to the floor and loved hearing the supercharger wind up. Outstanding car!

First off the car has been modified. It has a CAI. Likely an SRT throttlebody. Exhaust is missing the resonator. When the wing stays up then there is likely a wheel or brake sensor issue. Hence esp/abs. Scan it to pinpoint which is the issue. Also it came factory with a steering wheel airbag. That may trigger codes. Sadly its not really worth any more than you paid. Maybe less, Its been clapped out. On another note parts are worth bank. Each headlamp goes for about 500 bucks. The dash assembly is worth a shit ton if the mounts and screw holes are not broken. Interior parts are a hard find for these. The cold air intake is worth about 500 bucks minium and if it has the srt throttle body there is another 300. Most crossfires get wrecked in the front.

I had a crossfire for about 5 years. Absolutely loved it midlife crisis car. On the tail end the pipes should have two Chrome squared off covers. You shouldn't see the tail pipes at all. You could probably get them quite cheap and it really makes the car look a lot better. The Chrome would look good against that black. I always wanted a black convertible. But they rust really bad really quickly. I had a $1,500 transmission repair before it even hit 100,000 miles the electric plate went bad. Maintenance is ridiculously expensive You have to maintain it like you would of Mercedes. Fun car is a toy. Wasn't a good daily driver not very comfortable either. But a lot of fun to drive.

Great vid.. As a benz w207 owner I have the same generation benz that includes parts fom this car as well and I always laugh when i look for parts and see all mercedes vehicles then this random crossfire as an option for my parts. I think it may be decent with some better wheels probably should just scrap those and try to get some used ones or maybe slk wheels?😂 Never knew plastidip was such a problem.

Did you try burning the wheel coating off with a torch? You have to see beyond the dirt and crap, I would put a headliner in it and it will sell or skip the headliner and run back through the auction.

I used to own a crossfire and if u go on FB there are groups that u could easily sell that car for so before you run it thru the auction take a look on FB cause the enthusiast would pay more than a dealer would

I’m completely rebuilding one as a show car and doing a lot of mod work including a V8 engine swap. For what’s wrong with it and how cheap those cars go you’re going to be lucky to turn a profit on it. You can buy them all day in better condition than that one for between 4,000-5,000

Probably a crime scene clean up odor minus headliner Hazmat possibly ? We did the donation car program for many years out of each 10 cars 2 were nice 4 were wholesalable and 4 went into the crusher .

You polished that turd up nicely…the rims are a let down…personally I’d get the rims stripped and powder coated…heck contact J&R auto salvage and see if they can hook you up with some replacement rims and perhaps a headliner…might even get a hood and grill. I think those cars have a following.

Sell it for $5000..you would make some profit and someone would be getting a good deal on a ride they desire and you look like a super decent person. And if the drive train takes a dive you do not get penalized as a snake oil salesman.

I had the exact same car that I bought new in 2005. Loved it and it was totally trouble free. Of course I did not trash it like the previous owner did.

My vote is dry ice blasting on the wheels, but it's still a great 50-foot car as is!

I had same problem once. Used lacquer thinner in spry bottle and fine tip on pressure washer. It still took many hours.

Did the bas esp light go off after you fixed the parking brake? Mine just came on yesterday. Put air in the tires figuring it would go away but it didnt this time. Now every time I start it the light doesnt come on until i push in the brakes to put it in drive. These cars are super frustrating!
