I have always believed that A Wonderful Life is definitely NOT for everyone. It can be such a needlessly obtuse and bizarre experience. So I don’t blame you at all for bouncing. I agree with a lot of your other remarks too, at least for the games I’ve played. In particular, Doraemon SoS is SUCH a gorgeous game to look at it, but it’s very slow to start, and it loses steam after a while and becomes a slog. I will say that I love Harvestella though. It caught me completely by surprise how much I fell in love with the characters and the surprising amount of humor. Plus the story just gets absolutely bonkers. But I admit that the combat is a letdown. Very simplistic, which is unfortunate in a game that is like 75% RPG, 25% farm sim. Absolutely respect all your opinions, and would love to see more content like this! ❤

I don't necessarily agree with every single game you mentioned, but I can appreciate your reasoning and tastes. Thank you for being authentic. I also like reading the comments of others about their own experiences with games. We tend to want to be positive and justify our purchases, so it's nice to come clean and admit what didn't live up to the hype. For me, lately, it's Palia; and No Place Like Home.

for me, after playing my time at sandrock, it was SO hard to get back to portia. i love the story and the characters so much, but the mechanics were so clunky when i tried playing again. i agree with what you said about portia on the switch. i started on the switch, and playing on pc afterwards was such a breath of fresh air. everything ran infinitely better. i also got really frustrated with the trigger events in rune factory 4. the fact that it could be really difficult to unlock an entire arc of the story was a bit off putting, but at least the wiki was helpful. i'm still mixed on how to feel about the crafting systems (for both 4 and 5). i feel like i would enjoy it more if the hidden mechanics of crafting were explained more in depth since it does seem like you need to know them in order to finish the full story/game in both. i will say, i liked the story of 4 a lot more than 5, but i do think 5 has the better characters by far. i'm very excited to see what the next two rune factory games come up with. personally, games i regret buying are roots of pacha, kynseed, and the more recent story of seasons games. i just can't get into them for whatever reason, and i don't feel like forcing myself to get past the first couple of hours in any of them.

I couldn't agree more with your feeling about AWL. I wanted so bad to love it but I think I made it a week in game before just never wanting to open it again. Really the only game I'm not on the same page with you would be Roots of Pacha. Not a perfect game by any means but the characters and setting have really grabbed my heart. It has become one of my absolute favorite cozy games. Thanks for the great content as always.

Oh my, it took me 9 minutes before I realized where the soundtrack was from!! And I 100% agree, I don't enjoy many games most of people did enjoy and I barely share it with someone, because I feel almost ashamed that I don't like these "works of art!". I think that no matter how good the game is (based on reviews), the only important thing is for you to enjoy it. I mean, are we really going to pretend for maybe even hundreds of hours that we are into something that we don't even like? Time is too precious to waste it on stuff like these.

I love Doraemon SOS! I agree about the trigger system, but ngl, half the time I ignore that stuff and just farm 😂😭 part of me wonders how I poured 70 hours into Doraemon SoS without actively trying to progress the story hahah I did end up progressing as I went but just by chance. The newest entry fixed the control problem and while there are still trigger events (cause it’s still SoS hah), the story is a lot more clear. Whenever you need to progress, you get the cutscene usually first thing in the morning telling you what needs to happen. There are lots of QOL changes and more accessible prices for customizing! Maybe watch some gameplay and see 😄

I actually was weary about the Wonderful Life remake and chose to wait. I remembered that while the original was one of my first farming games, I had issues with it. Then I got Harvest Moon DS and let’s just say, I got really tired of the Valley and characters at this point so I really don’t have a big sentimental attachment. For me, a cozy game I regret was actually Story of Seasons Pioneers due to a lot of reasons. Maybe Rune Factory 5 but that could be I just haven’t played enough of it. I have a couple of the games on your lists but I wouldn’t say I regret getting the games, I just haven’t played them very much as other games took my attention (Coral Island and Sun Haven being my biggest). I will say though that I really wish I get more fantasy farming games but with less rpg. What I mean is lets have the magic and different races of Rune Factory and Sun Haven, but without the whole World saving, lives at stake quests/storylines and more of just creating the farm, building up relationships, et cetra. I also am a little sick of Rune Factory Amnesia plot and would like more games that use art styles graphic of Coral Island and Palia instead of pixel art, which threw me off of Stardew and Mine Craft if I am honest (even though I like Sun Haven and Roots of Pacha). But that is just me.

Roots of pacha is great! I'm waiting for it to be on Switch,so I can play it again 😅 Also I love RF 4 and Rune factory 3 od Ds, will deff. buy it on Switch; but I never liked 3D farming games like RF 5 ( too much space, small decorations, too vibrant colors, but will give it a try again soon. Frontiers was okay though), Harvest Moon for PSP ( also I could never get into any HM game, quickly running out of stamina, lack of things to do besides watering crops and talking to people + I felt it was preeetty tedious and slow to rise friendship points with characters, even Rune factory 1, movement being sluggish like in HM games, was more enjoyable 😅 )

Funny that I’m finding this video just after I finished Harvestella since I’m looking for information on the next game I might pick up. I quite enjoyed Harvestella but it does take a good bit for it to pick up steam and the combat does get fairly repetitive, there are a wide variety of classes to pick but you do have to grind up each individually so if you don’t like the grind it will discourage job experimentation. Despite its flaws I still enjoyed it quite a bit but i know it’s not for everyone.

I really appreciate honest reviews. It helps me make up my mind if I would like a game or not. Every game is subject to a players preference, so people should always consider that. I loved rune factory 4 right up until I could not complete a maze and couldn't find how to do it online, so I gave up on it. That was before the fifth one came out. It was a great game, but bad on directions if you got stuck. My regret buys, which will be controversial for some, are sos friends of mineral town and pioneers of olive town. I just didn't find them at all engaging 😅. Got bored really quickly. Another one was Dinkum. Although a great game in a lot of ways, the in your face combat everywhere caused me anxiety (which I do suffer with), so I had to stop playing it. I would not recommend it to anyone who suffers with anxiety and gets triggered by this kind of combat. Thankfully, there are tons of cosy farming games to suit all tastes. Nobody should ever be rude because someone else feels differently about something. We should always respect we are all different and like different things. Reviews that cover all aspects of a game helps me see if something is in it that wouldn't be for me, so thank you for covering so much of so many games. It often saves me making more mistake buys! ❤

Thank you so much for your honesty and helping me not waste more money. Since steam has only 2 hours for refunds I feel like that is not really enough time to get a good feel for some games to determine if it's for you or not. I definitely agree about Hokko Life the trailer looks good I literally keep trying to give it a chance but since I got the game back in August I still only have 4 hours of game time there is just nothing that pulls me in.

The only thing from this list that I actually have a separate opinion on is Roots of Pacha. To be fair, I got it about 3 weeks ago, but im enjoying it a lot. I think what really drew me in was how the plants actually evolve as you play through it and the amount of decorations you can have out.And the animal breeding and color variants are cool as well (if you like collecting all the varieties lol). I do however completely get where you are coming from with the NPCs, they all are fairly forgettable and i dont feel as involved with them as I usually am in these types of games. I know this is a old vid but I just found your channel and am thoroughly enjoying how respectful you are with your opinions on games. Hopefully the pitchfork mobs stop coming after you lol.

My #1 regret is Brookhaven and I'm so glad that it's not just me feeling this way now, bless you Miss Bubbles I really really try to love it for the same reason that you mentioned, but it's so unplayable for me especially on the control department.. When I mentioned this on discord I got dissed because it's a "me" problem due to how badly I am confused on how to play with the early on control in the game.. (just to clarify with KB+m not controller) So I waited for patches and updates and give it another go and it still the same.. I'm at a point where I can't even refund it and I hate the fact that it gives an achievement on the start of new game after they implement achievements so now it forever tainted my overall achievements progress % as well...

When it came out, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life had lots fair share of haters. It is a very slow game with limited content, when compared to Stardew Valley and the current batch of farming sims. Yes, the dialogue with the townsfolk gets repetitive quickly. Yes, the mining aspect is very limited. Yes, getting new recipes was a frickin' pain in the butt. Yes, it was hard to romance any of the bachelorettes that was not Celia. For me, though, it was great, because it did what a cozy game needed to for me: calm me down after a stressful day at work to the point that I can go to bed. It also had an ending, which at the time, was something that I wanted. I haven't played the SoS remake yet, but it will be interesting to see if it holds up to my nostalgic memories. I agree with you about a number of other games you mentioned. I kept failing the first big boss fight in Harvestella, and instead of trying to "get gud," I just stopped playing the game. The Roots of Pacha demo didn't grab me. Most of the Story of Seasons games take a while to grow on me, but I also never triggered any of the Doraemon events, likely because they were linked to villagers that I didn't normally talk to. None of those games, though, could compare to Wild Season, which was billed as a farming sim where the town did not want you around. It was sorta billed as Harvest Moon meets Twin Peaks. It was getting a lot of hype, but the developer was slow in getting the first beta together. During one of those delays, Stardew Valley premiered. As you might guess, the developer gave up on the game, and a lot of Kickstarter backers were not happy. That took the crown for the worst farming sim I wish I had never bought.

I feel like the Harvest Moon remakes or Story of Season games rely so heavily on nostalgia for most of them. I enjoyed the old remakes because that's what introduced me to this genre 20+ years ago before the "dark age" of farm sims until Stardew Valley rejuvenated the genre. I often tell friends if you have great memories of Wonderful Life or Friends of Mineral Town, get it on sale and enjoy the nostalgia factor, but if you started Stardew and beyond, they're probably not worth picking up, IMO.

However, I underestimated what kind of rune factory fan I am. Rune factory 5 is indeed the one I love because I played all the wii rune factories that are considered side games or not part of the main series. I was shocked that I liked the side games better than the original line. However, rune factory 5 followed the side games. So! Yay!🎉

I love Rune Factory 4 and Doraemon SoS but I definitely agree with what you are saying. I finished the main storyline for Doraemon SoS but couldn't unlock all the cutscenes with the other villagers because I didn't build friendship high enough or just wasn't at a certain place at a certain time. After completing the main storyline and clocking in 80 hours I was getting very bored of the game because I cannot be bothered to search the internet to know where I am supposed to be at a certain time. It's still a great game with fantastic artstyle but I see why this aspect turn people off 😂

Totally respect your opinions and I agree with your take on SoS AWL. I will say that the first year is the most hectic and busy for me, I went in wanting to make a 'perfect' year 1 save so that I can go back to it to get respective husbands. Meaning that getting money and getting prepared in year 2 is a lot. Then yeah year 2 is fun, but dear lord by year 3 and on the game is a slog. And a big portion is nothing new gets added, no new festivals, your spouse basically says the same 2 lines till you die and just felt lacking. You'll get the occasional villager mentioning your child or relationship but that is it. And it really dulls my exp as a whole, even if I had fun in year 1-2, how it drags on sours it. So far SoS games have been lacking in that dialogue department which is crazy when I see things like SoS Trio of Towns have so much dialogue to throw at you. I just miss it.

I also quit My Time at Portia on the Switch. The frame rate was so low it was barely moving. I think this was the first game I actually gave up on because of frame rate. I’m not too sensitive to it as long as it’s moving along. Less than 60 fps? I don’t care. 30 fps? Fine. 20? Ok. Portia moved at about 2. I also saw people saying they had no problem but I can’t see how it runs so differently on the same system but they must have had really good luck!

My Time at Portia because I did not realize when I bought it there was so much fighting that needed done. I also grew eventually to hate Stardew Valley because I dislike pixel graphics to begin with and those were just ugly, and every update just seemed to make it worse. I also regret buying Kynseed but oddly enough not because of the graphics but that I got it way early on and it's taken several turns I don't care for. As for Garden Paws (one of a handful of purchases I've made on Steam--I've no intention of buying another game through a client that can lock me out of what I paid for) I enjoy it. It's not without its problems--goodness knows how many bugs there are the devs will never fix--but with enough mods I've overall enjoyed it. You spoke of triggering events--yes, I dislike those very much. I'm old and have been playing video games since the 1970s. There have been plenty of guide-dang-its down through the years--frustrating they are.

Speaking as someone who is VERY nostalgic for the gc version (It was actually my favorite for a very long time), I agree with you on SoS AWL remake. I thought it was watered down and they focused too much on making the models "cute" style. That took away from the experience of a more realistic type of simulator that I enjoyed on the gamecube. Seriously, that horse model is all levels of wrong in my opinion

Thank you for this video, I agree on Harvestella, thankfully that had a demo and I think I saw enough people play Roots of Pacha to know I don’t neeeeed to play it… Disney Dreamlight Valley (Nintendo Switch) is the game for me that I regret buying. It feels so clunky and I got bored. I am usually saying that the only good thing about the game is that it takes resources from every chest you have no matter where they’re placed for cooking and crafting - BIG plus! I have over 165h in the game so far. I need many many more updates to come back to it.
